Looks like the Trump Slump is real. I wonder how many airlines and small businesses that are dependent on tourism will wither up and die because of the Great Orange Embarrassment in the White House and his inability to act like an adult or think anywhere past his next piece of beautiful chocolate cake.

Summer is a significant money maker for many areas of the country. Without this vital influx of tourists, areas will be bereft of the inflow of tourism dollars into their economy. That will effect significant issues as summer continues.

The article points out that the reduction is pretty severe; 16% YoY since October. While currency exchange rates are likely part of the blame, travelers from the Middle East and Central and South America are avoiding travel to the US as the Trump Admin continues to declare war against brown people. This obviously affects the perception in other areas of the world as, believe it or not, not everyone is a racist bigoted Trump Redhat. People who travel tend to have a higher level of comfort with others who don't fit their ideological and theological mold perfectly.

As Trump continues to attack our allies in the EU, it's likely that the negative perception shared by the people of the Middle East and those in Central and South America will spread to Europe and Asia which will cause the precipitous slump to continue precipitating a powerful punch in the gut for an industry that is absolutely vital to the US. Maybe tourists from Russia will make up the shortfall or maybe not.

Estimates as high as 6.3 million tourists, along with their money, may eschew travel to the US due to the Trump Regime's incompetent approach to... well, everything.

But don't worry, I'm sure that destroying the EPA and making the US into a polluted hellhole will bring in the tourists once again as all those coal mining jobs come a' pourin' back!!

    MAGA!!!!

There are probably a few things contributing to a tourism slump of visitors to the US. Do I think there is a Trump factor? You bet, tourists from certain parts of the world are either leery (scared actually) of visiting and/or angry at the US (i.e. Trump policies). The strength of the US buck isn't helping either and there are other places in the world where Europeans, for example, can get more for their money. New York City is trying desperately to get more Canadians to visit. Oddly enough, I think Canada is looking at a pretty good year for tourism, probably getting some flow from overseas tourists who will bypass the US. The internet is full of anecdotal tourist accounts of "issues" at the US border, this frightens the tourists away. They are just tourists and have nothing to hide but why risk being treated like a criminal? No one needs the hassle........

We'll see how the summer season progresses but, if traffic and spending go down, the tourism industry will demand fixes.....

Is that 16% decrease because of terrorists tourists from the middle east afraid of coming to the United States now that Trump is President?

I think it's the Trump sanctioned harassment by border control, obviously you'd want to take a vacation where you feel welcome.

Just have to look at it like this.

The double-digit number that will still come, are likely to be of a higher caliber....

So what you are really saying is that Trump haters and the lying media have been successful with their propaganda campaign and are successfully hurting America. Congrats!

Well, I mean that's one deluded "head up my ass" way of looking at it for people who have lost all ability to think rationally and are trying their hardest to deflect blame.

Thank you for your Trump humping opinion. It's very telling.

These numbers are expected to continue or get worse during the summer.

They have a problem with Americans installing a bigot and xenophobe as president.

Example #1,287 of how conservatives ruin our economy.

They're too busy asking "What's wrong with Russia?" at confederate monuments.

Conservative patriotism is as phony as a three dollar bill.

    Strong dollar hurts international tourism

The strong U.S. dollar is taking its toll on Southwest Florida tourism.

Canadian tourism was down 23.5 percent in Manatee County in December, Walter Klages, an analyst with Data Research Services, told the Manatee County Tourist Development Council on Monday. The number of European travelers also fell that month, dropping 4.9 percent.

Klages said he doesn’t expect the dollar to lose its strong footing anytime soon. International tourists, he said, will simply have less buying power on United States soil for the foreseeable future.

“Our economy clearly is not insulated from the rest of the world, although sometimes we might want it to be,” Klages said. “The critical element here is, really, the dollar.”

Weird, isn't it? It's easier to understand their thinking if you know that by "America" they mean an America that is an artificially constructed product of their selfishness, hatred, and antipathy for anyone who doesn't agree with their caustic though processes.

What a weak attempt at deflection. Still typical for the left.
