How? Takes about 15 minutes to come up with one.

And dress codes hinder those aspects not a twit.

Anyone with any business senses knows it would be folly. The "democracy " is between the owners and investors. Want a vote then put your money at risk in the business else your are an expense to the business.

    Spare me the invective.

That's twice now that you've proven unable to discuss the topic and instead discussed me.

Okay, no problem. I'm talking to an adolescent unable to actually process information as an adult or behave in a mature, intelligent manner; someone who only has insults instead or arguments. Got it.

Please get back to me - let's see, how long does it take the average teenager's brain to evolve pass puberty into maturity? About thirteen years? Okay, I'll talk to you again in 2029.

By the way, being an adult is great. Trust me, when you become self-sufficient, self-reliant, and self-responsible, you'll love it. Moving out of your parents house may seem scary at first, but it'll be the best thing to ever happen to you.

Unpaid interns are typically college students.
I would have asked where these income free interns are vastly employed, but I knew you wouldn't answer. Everyone has bills to pay and money is necessary to do so.

Again, they were college interns, not employees. They weren't fired. Hosting interns in order to educate them and give them some experience is not convenient for businesses. If the interns are a hassle, shutting down their internship is the obvious approach.

Since one of the interns was easily 50+ years old, yeah maybe.

Every few weeks they'll bring in about a dozen more. They'll run around and do basic office work nobody else wants to do. I would guess they do like others who don't have jobs and live off the government dole, but I never thought to ask.

Next time, I'll ask, just for you.

What business? Lemme guess..you won't say.
Why would folks living on government assistance want to intern for free? They wouldn't.
Folks signing up to do menial work for free...yeah, that happens. NOT.

Well, where DO they get money? Primarily their parents or family, followed by student loans, grants, working a part-time job or two. Heck, we even had this kid robbing places to fund his education - well, at least he was.

Everyone likely has a different story. I worked a night job and did freelance work when I was student teaching - also, I had college grants. Luckily, there was a HUGE teacher shortage at the time. I supported my wife when she did her interning. There's no one answer for your question.

Also, regarding your question regarding someone on government assistance wanting to work for free? It happens. We had a librarian years ago who was doing exactly that but was bored at home and had nothing to do, so she volunteered to be our librarian for a few years. Or maybe you have a retired person who wants to learn something new. It does occur.

My point was the vast majority of interns are college students. What do you teach?
    Did you utilize Stafford?

You can't handle any of the answers so far. What's the point?

    Volunteered...keyword.
Volunteers and interns aren't the same. Interns are seeking experience that will ultimately be beneficial to finding a paying job.

You seem to be assuming one causes the other. All those statistics could be the result of other factors, that lead folks who don't end up in poverty to also be more likely to not commit felonies, graduate high school and have successful marriages.

When I was student teaching, I was indeed a college student. In fact, here's the program at Cal Poly Pomona, where I got my credential. Clinical Practice I and II are the actual student teaching classes (internships) while the Teaching Performance Assessment Blocks are meetings at least weekly with the university supervision. Internship (unpaid student teaching) is an actual class and we do get graded for it.

I'm an elementary teacher, so all subjects.

Grants, as I explained previously. So, no. I left with no student loans to pay back.

The bolded was what I was mostly (tho not entirely) responding to. People do it. There are people bored with retirement who have decided that working is better than merely existing, so they decide to go back into the workforce. And although I am loathe to use a movie as an example, The Intern is a fairly good example of this very thing happening. And it does occur. Maybe not terribly often, but I will tell you that my wife has told me on multiple occasions that when I retire, I'll likely drive everyone nuts looking for something to do. I can't imagine I would be the only one that happens to.

The employment numbers for the last period were recently posted. Something like 90% of the new job gains were made by people over 55. In contrast, younger folks lost jobs overall.

    Do you teach in Canada?
Did you have to take the Praxis?

I suppose we are arguing semantics here.
The Intern was a very good movie... I love Robert Dinero...but I like him best in mob roles. Casino and Heat were two of my faves.

    No, California.

I took the NTE, which was replaced by Praxis. California only required the General Skills portion of the NTE, the first of three, to teach there. Since I actually took all three of the NTE exams and passed them , I effectively passed Praxis II as well. And since you'll likely ask, I also took the CBEST as well and passed.

Not sure, it was the topic of another current thread. Probably in economy.

I was just curious about Canadian teacher certification vs. US certification.
My kids went to a state charter school for elementary and certification there was a little more lax than county schools.
What is starting pay in California for a new teacher, roughly?
What are your favorite grades? I used to sub and I liked 2-4 most. Anyone in middle grade education 5-8 is an angel with a calling.

90% of new hires being 55+ is comically outrageous.

Yea... makes me wonder if raising the minimum wage had an unintended effect. Could also have something folks leaving college towns at the end of the semester. Dunno.

May say something about the ratio of part time to full time jobs.

Minimum wage hasn't been raised recently.
College students spending summer at home is nothing new.
55+ don't comprise anything remotely close to 90% of new hires. Absolutely absurd.
