So who would "hunt" these people down exactly? So let me get this right, a bunch of interns signed a letter to their boss demanding changes in the workplace but yet they are afraid of posting their story and identity on the web? Is that your story? Just who are these alleged interns offending other than their boss?

Are you saying people should unquestioningly believe all specious anonymous sources on the web? If you are, well, that explains a lot about the Republican Party. Unfortunately it is true. As demonstrated by this meme, truth and critical thinking are not needed nor wanted in the modern incarnation of the Republican Party. Fact and reason use to mean something for Republicans. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case as demonstrated by this particular meme. All that matters is the party, the home team. And that's unfortunate not only for the Republican Party but for the nation at large. The nation needs two healthy viable parties. That's not what we have today, thanks in large part to the intellectual dishonesty which is rampant within the party thanks to the advent of Republican entertainment where Republicans live in a fact free fantasy world.

Can you prove any of that? No you can't because it isn't true. Unfortunately for you an those like you, it takes more than demagoguery in the real world to govern effectively.and that's a problem for Republicans and the nation.

Oh, and why is that exactly? What's strange about it? The Republican Party of 2016 isn't the Republican Party of Reagan. I know, I was there. I was a Reagan supporter for a number of reasons. Reagan made some good decisions, but he also made some bad decisions. He wasn't the idol Republicans have made him out to be, though he was certainly inspirational. Though I agreed with his foreign policies, I was deeply disappointed by the Iran-Contra Scandal.

He had a new economic theory, a theory which has subsequently been disproved. Regrettably Republicans keep trying to resurrect Reagan's failed economic policies even though the economic circumstances we face today are diametrically opposed to the challenges faced by Reagan. It's the old one pill cures all ills routine. Reagan's economic policies were not and are not a panacea, just look at what has happened to Kansas.

In my book, conservatism means doing what has been proven to be successful, to do what is reasonable. It means tradition, a tradition of reason. Sadly that's not what the Republican Party of today is all about. Fact and reason use to mean something in the Republican party. Sadly, that is no longer the case. As the Democratic Party has become more centrist and with the advent of Republican entertainment where Republicans no longer need to face inconvenient facts, Republicans have become more extreme and counter productive. That's not the Republican Party I once knew. That's not the party of Reagan. When Reagan was president, facts and reason mattered to Republicans. Republicans were well informed and reasoned. Sadly, that's not the case today. Reagan would be rolling over in his grave if he knew what has become of the Republican Party.

Okay, there are a couple things wrong with your post.
    1. Why would your things be, "mailed" back to you? Those "things" you brought to your cubicle, or desk are your possessions, not the companies. It's not like you're stealing anything from the company Let's say you forgot something, and you came back to innocently pick it up. Who the hell considers that trespassing? Does the company automatically seek some type of restraining order? You're not breaking into the building, or attempting to do anything malicious. No two ways about it, that is downright pathetic. It reminds me of that scene in "Scrooged" where security escorts that worker out onto the street with his box of possessions on Christmas Eve.

    2. How is this "tantamount to forming a union?" These interns took THEIR time out to create the petition, these interns took THEIR time out to gain enough signatures for that petition, it wasn't mutiny in any way. Again, this comes down to the point I was making earlier that management hates change, bucks change, and carries the sentiment, "If its good for me, its good for everyone else, you don't like it, get the f*ck off my property." No two ways about it, its pathetic on how management chooses to operate.

If Corporate America is that pathetic as you made it sound in your post, then someone needs to come in, inject some change, and make that injection ASAP, because Corporate America is looking quite....shall we say, retarded?

It's a sports retail corporate office. I spend at least an hour a day either playing ping pong or pool. Old Dominion just gave our office a private acoustic concert on our patio last week.

We're about a year from a billion dollars in revenue... you'd be surprised. Not every office sucks as bad as yours.

I don't know if they were on government assistance. My guess is they live at home, or want to transition into a new field, or simply want the chance to be hired on. I don't know their motivations, but I can tell you I don't really get a kick out of telling you what does and doesn't happen at our office since... only one of us works there.

This has been the case for quite a while. The only age group to INCREASE its labor participation rate during this economic mess we've had under the Democrats has been the older workers. This despite the canard that the overall labor participation rate has dropped because of older workers dropping out. It is the younger and middle aged workers in the prime working years who are suffering.

False equivalence. I never said such, especially when I stated it could well be false. What I DID say is that there could be a reason as to WHY it was anonymous and as to why no company is named and suchlike. For that matter, unlike the NYTimes and Brian Williams, you also have no proof that it was a lie. Perhaps Ann Landers was before your time, I don't know. At this point I already know you're not arguing in good faith.

Assumes facts not in evidence. I'm not a Republican, although I am conservative.

Making the response personal. Mmm, no possibility of rational debate with you. Bye.

False equivalence of what exactly? I asked you a couple of questions, questions you still haven't answered. That's not a false equivalence. It would appear I have touched a nerve. The fact remains, this is a specious source and the assertion makes absolutely no sense. You cannot make a reasonable argument for the anonymity of the poster. You have no evidence as to the veracity of the poster, but you accept it without question as gospel truth. I suggest you not believe anything read from anonymous sources as gospel truth as you and others like you have repeatedly done. Just because the poster appeals to your cognitive biases, it doesn't mean it is truthful. Unfortunately for you and your so called conservative fellows evidence and reason matter outside of your so called conservative echo chambers.

Oh, and just what facts are assumed but not in evidence? Did I call you a Republican? No I didn't. It is you my friend who are assuming facts not in evidence.

Making it personal......really? I asked you another of those damn questions you don't like. That isn't making it personal. It's just asking you a question which unnerves your cognitive bias, and that's what I intended to do in the unlikely hope it might cause you to think about your beliefs. There is no possibility of a rational debate here because you won't have it. You haven't answered the questions I have posed to you, because if you are honest, you won't like the answers and the answers require you to think. So if you want to run away, fine. It would be par for the course with today's so called conservative, best go back to Fox News or Republican talk radio where you never need to hear or see reason or unpleasant facts.

I got the quote notification, but I'm not even bothering to read your response. Find someone else to annoy with your spurious answers.

Go ahead and have the last word. I won't read it, but it'll make you feel better. Go to lad, go to.

I have no idea of where you are, or your background. But you obviously have no concept of Corporate America.

When you are discharged from a company (especially for cause), the company has no responsibility to immediately return your personal property. The company may chose to allow someone from security to escort you to your desk, and watch you pack-up. This is to ensure that you don't pack-up something that is not your personal property. Such as office supplies, company files, or customer contact information. The alternative is to have security pack your stuff up, and mail them to you. This is often done to save the terminated employee the embarrassment of being escorted to their desk with all their former co-workers watching.

There is a difference in a professional way to handle thing, and an unprofessional way to handle them. As I pointed out in an earlier post, the professional way to handle the situation would have been a one on one conversation. If the individual had acted in a professional manner, he/she would have found out why the one individual was allowed to deviate from the dress code, and why they were not being offered that opportunity. But instead, the individual decided to go behind management's back and organize the fellow interns. They wrote out a proposal ( a list of demands.), and a petition. Management acted correctly by terminating them.

Just so that you understand, there is a reason for dress codes. When you allow college kids to come to work without any wardrobe guidance, you end up with some very unprofessional, and often distracting appearances. (Picture Val Kilmer in Real Genius) While these interns may not have been personally dealing with customers or clients, they are being seen by them, and unprofessional appearances will reflect negatively on the company. Therefore a professional dress code is necessary.

If you are that naïve about Corporate America, then please feel free to remain in whatever fantasy world that you feel comfortable in. Enjoy studying under terrorist like Bill Ayers, and leave Corporate America alone. Because frankly, Corporate America would find you "shall we say, retarded?"

Of course she was seduced by her boss, Clinton. He took advantage of the extremely dumb intern, who consented to their oral sex very willingly. Getting up close and personal w/your boss and consenting to what he wants or thinking you can change company policies is DUMB...downrite STUPID.........and btw, I'm not a Republican.

I put him on ignore, but I can well imagine what he's going on about. But just before I did, I did a quick search of his posts and found him defending Democrats quite a bit, as well as a lack of posts expounding upon his conservative beliefs. I'm gonna go on record and say this guy is a poser. And this is above and beyond the fact that he's having major issues with two people who ARE conservatives and are NOT Republicans. As well as how someone living in Sweden would even BE a Reagan conservative considering their politics. I'm not buying it.

Even beyond THAT, it's as if there he can't see that stupid is as stupid does. Had we never heard of Bill OR Lewinsky and this website got a mail saying "Hi, I work an an intern for the president of a governmental agency. I'm having an affair with the married boss where we often have oral sex right in his office while surrounded by his security guards right outside the door in the middle of the day. My question is, I got some of his fluid on my blue dress that I've been keeping for awhile; what should I do with it?", his response would be the same: "It's fake, no one was named and no one could be that dumb!" suh-PRISE!

And even beyond THAT, there were no politics involved. The entire debate wasn't about left vs. right wing in any form, but rather millennials values vs. everyone else's. Had he said "Look, I don't believe the story," okay, I could see that. However, "No I don't believe the story because it's a right-wing meme" - okay, where's the proof? There isn't any. Now, maybe the story IS fabricated, but maybe it's real and maybe some parts are embellished, we don't know. I know that he doesn't have any proof that it's fake either. If someone came up and said "Okay its fake and I can prove it," sure, I'd say we all got fooled. But we need that proof first and he hasn't got any, just his opinion. I looked around on that website and it seems legit as well as apolitical. It seems like a Dear Abby for people dealing with work issues and nothing more.

Bottom line is this: He says people are stupid for believing anything on the net. I guess that would also include his own opinion if you took his logic to it's logical conclusion. Why should we believe him when he's already proven himself to NOT be what he says he is just on the Reagan Conservative thing alone? Methinks he's projecting.

There is no indication the intern was dumb or stupid.

And who called you a Republican i.e. conservative? You are not a Republican you just like to spread their memes. :) But you are not a Republican. :)

No, I'm not a Republican. I'm an Independent w/conservative values.

Any woman - intern or not - who believes that she will have a future w/the POTUS just b/c she gave him BJ's is downrite STUPID. She was seriously living in her own fantasy world.....

Anyway, you defend Lewinsky and her stupidity and I will call her stupid for not having the common sense to face the reality that she was being used by someone who proved it when he quickly threw her away when they were exposed.........

Has anyone figured out if the internship was actually paid? I'd wear a uniform for a paid one, but I wouldn't even apply to the unpaid one. If the latter was the case, why would these interns even expect to be treated as more than expendable? They don't even value their own work.

Ok, who said you were a Republican? You are not a Republican, you just like propagate Republican memes. What does "independent" mean to you? When was the last time you voted for a Democrat? When was the last time you contributed to a Democrat? A lot of Republicans for one reason or another don't want to be called Republican but they always vote Republican and they contribute money only to Republicans.

I have been an independent for decades now. I vote for and financially support both Democrats and Republicans. I have no loyalty to either party. I am a true independent. What matters to me is the person and their agenda. The unfortunate thing for me is most, if not all, of these so called "conservatives" are anything but "conservative". They have become radicalized. Conservatism to me means using tried and true principals and tactics. That's not what Republicans i.e. so called conservatives are advocating today. Their social and fiscal policies are extraordinarily radical and extraordinarily dangerous. Rounding up and deporting 12 million illegal aliens is pretty damn radical. Jumping in bed with Putin and deserting our allies is pretty damn radical. Threatening to cause a debt default on multiple occasions is pretty damn radical. There is nothing conservative about it. That's where American conservatism is today. It has become a clear and present danger to the health of the economy and the nation. That's pretty damn radical, and we have folks like Fox News and Republican talk radio to thank for that radicalism.

And how do you know she thought that? Are you channeling Monica Lewinsky?

And no one is using you? I think you should think very long and hard on that before answering.

I've read the original article several times and it's silent on whether or not they were paid or unpaid. While it says they were "hired", that could mean either depending on how the author interpreted what was told to them.

    OMG.

    LOL.

Some of you people are just absolutely ridiculous.

I posted the link to the National Architectural Registration Board, the organization that administers the licensing of Architects in all 50 states, of which they require an internship to qualify for take the Architectural Registration Exam (A.R.E.).

Yet you still sit here and deny the facts presented to you. Not to mention the source you are using is a job placement board, of which the term Architecture plays into many industries, but according to state law may not be used by anybody other than a Licensed Architect.

Whatever, you just can't fix some peoples incredible ignorance when they are blinded by arrogance.

BTW, the same was asked by several of the posters on the original blog several times and no one there had an answer either, neither did the blogger "Ms. Ask a Manager". So for now it looks as if this remains unanswered.

....just as long as it doesn't hurt the company bottom line. Or, of course, there is the never ending line of internships that never leads anywhere but to work at a star bucks. So I guess there is always that.

The more your hurt your company, the more likely you will to not have one. And an internship opens a path to many places. You gotta do the leg work to get there.

I wouldn't count on that job at StarBucks being there if you don't.

Indentured servitude is not becoming of a "great nation" but that's just my opinion. Again, it's a scam. As usual. People act like the rich are doing us a favor.

    Sure. Sure they are.

Indenture means to bind. An indentured servant is bound by law to be a servant. Interns are free to take it or leave it.

You are not entitled to favors. If you don't want the opportunity to earn experience by providing work as an intern, don't take it.

Think of it like an MLB farm team...

We bring in interns to do (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) work that we don't want to hire someone on to do. The best and brightest will be offered jobs (why would we let them go?) And the rest just gained a few months of corporate office experience to put on their resume.

If you've never heard of the Emerald Coast https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emerald_Coast, you haven't been to the FL Panhandle--they've been called that as long as I can remember (along with half a dozen other names). I've been vacationing there since 1981, and living there since 2003 (and lived on the AL Gulf Coast from 1997 to 2003). I've pretty much vacationed or driven through most of the coast in the State of Florida, and of course Orlando area. I've been on various beaches on the East coast, and a few beaches on the west coast (Ft. Myers beach and Naples area), I've been to the FL Keys down to MM 0, and I've been on Emerald Coast beaches from around Port St. Joe to Perdido Key. From my sampling, the absolute best beaches on the Gulf/Atlantic are to my east in south Walton county (just west of Panama City). FL east coast beaches have dirty water and dirty sand (until you get to Miami, where they have coral sand beaches, which are white, but harder on the feet than the white sand beaches of the Panhandle.) Read Dr. Leatherman aka Dr. Beach for his views, which are similar to mine.

The problem was that they couldn't take "no" for an answer, and followed it up by a pseudo-democratic petition to force the company's hand. The company saw that these interns were not worth the time, and fired them. Most of the interns (including the one that wrote in to the advice columnist) had talked to their immediate supervisors about the dress code. Their supervisors told them it was not going to change. The interns didn't just stop at that point, but had to keep on. This is an issue of a lack of common sense. The interns failed the extended interview/job training which is what an intership is.
