Is it okay to shout down speakers on campus?

Just because you don't like the subject, doesn't mean you have to be a twit.

 

People that shout down invited guest speakers strike me as fearful, insecure snowflakes. I want to tell them to grow the hell up.

 

Depends on the subject: I personally don't wanna hear any input on child labor laws and rights of children from a pedophile and I don't think most people will either.

If an invited speaker is someone you find of distaste, then don't go to the event.

 

you just don't get it, do you. it's not about just you. i know this is a hard pill to swallow for some people, but you don't get to determine what is and is not acceptable for public discourse. not only is this a childish attitude, but it leaves one vulnerable to ignorance of anything outside of their own echo chamber.

 

haven't you heard? those two are one and the same.

 

That's on the venue. Nothing to do with the First Amendment. That says we both have free speech and if I choose to exercise mine louder than yours that just something you need to deal with.

 

My interpretation is the same as everyone who has actually read it. The government cannot silence you because they don't like what you're saying.

if you are interfering with others, they sure can. you need to read up on the law

 

you have to keep up on current events. this is only considered "fine" if those doing the beating are in agreement with current progressive views.

personally, i keep getting closer and closer to the viewpoint that "two in the chest and one in the head" is preferable to dealing with all of the drama.

it can silence those who disrupt lawful gatherings. You go into a movie theater or a church and start screaming your head off, you will be removed and usually charged with DOC

my go to carry is small caliber. two rounds to stop and one to make sure no further rounds are necessary.

 

And you can see the results of that kind of sentiment. We have ways to deal with racism, violence or something else close to it. Your method is a very bad one. It doesn't normally work at all. It is fine for you to hate racism. Other people practice it. It doesn't hurt you or anyone else to listen to them. There is no rule that you have to change your mind. It is all rudeness and bad manners. It makes people angry. It doesn't change their minds.

 

You're right it doesn't hurt me to listen to it but I have no desire nor need to listen to it nor should anyone. Also, people with that mindset are already set in their ways and nothing I say or do will change their minds, they are who and what they wanna be.
