    1. I've already had the vaccine - I'm not the point of this discussion.
    2. If you are really worried about passing covid to your MIL then you better STAY AWAY!! Maybe you aren't aware but vaccinated people can AND DO get infected and spread the virus. My wife, also double vaxed, just tested positive just last week. This is not uncommon.
    3. Your elderly in laws should be vaxed themselves.

You are right that the getting the shots are a minor inconvenience. You are wrong that they are risk free (if you think that) and you are wrong that unvaxed are somehow a big threat to the vaxed.

My whole point is vaccinated people can get the virus. My mother-in-law is vaccinated. In my example I got vaccinated to reduce the risk I catch it because if I did I could still pass it on to her. If she was unvaccinated we would never visit her.

To be honest we have limited contact with elderly relatives a lot. The problem is, humans are social animals. During Thanksgiving and Christmas we still had small gatherings. Instead of inviting 30-40 family and friends to dinner we kept it small around 10 people. The grandparents want to see the kids. People want to socialize and catch up. The best we can do is take precautions and getting vaccinated in one of those precautions. For other relatives we video conferenced them in to catch up too.

Your point was the age demographic argument. A person in the 30s is likely to not be at risk from the virus. My point was even healthy and young people in their 30s interact with people in higher risk groups. They have parents, grand parents etc.... Even if those people are vaccinated they could still catch covid from a covid positive 30 year old. Why not have the 30 year old get vaccinated to lower the chance of them catching the virus and spreading it. The only argument against it would be they feel the vaccine is unsafe. I would totally accept that argument if their doctor told them not to get the vaccine.

I have a question for you. If you are 30 years old and young and healthy why did you get the vaccine? Was it mandated by your employer? Was it to protect those around you?

Yes, and as you already said vaccinated people still get the virus. And they DO! Therefore even if your vaccinated you can still infect another person. Your argument about protecting the people around is is not convincing. People get vaccinated to protect themselves.

I'm not 30 years old and although my health isn't bad it's not perfect either. I do have hypertension. For me it made sense to get the shot. For others it may not.

I think you have a cynical view of people. Sure I am happy that the vaccine protects me too but to be honest if covid was hypothetically not contagious after I got it I may not have been as keen to get the vaccine.

I work in IT with a lot of young programmers and engineers in their 20s and 30s. I think pretty much all have been vaccinated and many claim they did it to protect parents and grand parents.

I am unvaxxed and I caught covid yesterday from a co-worker who is vaxxed and didn't get himself tested but was out sick for 2 days. Anyways, I had high temps upto 103° last night but woke up normal today with temps back down to 98.6°. Got tested today with Covid. I hardly felt bad besides chills and a few aches. Was more like a light 24 hour flu.

Yes. Exactly. The facts have been thrust into his face so often that he probably has a rash. Yet he continues to ask for the same data time and time again. That's puzzling.

Yes indeed. The virus is only dangerous for some people and we know who they are. Most of them, like me, went out of their way to get vaccinated. I see no reason at all for a young or middle aged healthy person to be vaccinated. It is actually senseless now that we have strains of the virus for which there is no new vaccination. We are beating an obsolete horse.

There is data, of course. Whether it represents proof or not is up to you, not the data.

Yes . but is trick question of sorts - There is lower death rate for some - higher for others .. depends on which category one is in.

For Group B (immune compromized/ pneumonia succeptible-Comorb-Old-Obese) - risk of harm from Covid is high Group B
for Group A (robust immune system) risk of harm from vax higher than from Delta .. never mind Omicron.

So 1) the folks showing up in the Hospital/ICU/Dead are Group B .. when we say unvaxed showing up more than vaxed .. True .. but only true within group B.. and well .. think about it .. someone with compromized immune system can use good dose of antibodies the most. The Jab is good for such folks. and no kidding you are giong to have less of the vaxed in this group showing up.

This is not the case for Group A .. who are really not showing up at all. CDC = 95 % dead are comorb -- with average of 4.
Now remember that Pneumonia will take us all at the end of days .. good bugs winning over bad.. 9 of 10 who die from "Covid" - die from Pneumomia .. that is the mechanism if your heart doesn't fail or some such thing.

So of the 5 folks dead who didn't have comorbidity - 9 our of 10 will die from pnemonia issues .. leaving us with 5 in 1000 .. who "Might" have been someone in Group A who died from Covid .. Obese 75% and we are left with roughy 1 in 1000 of the dead.

    800,000 dead over 2 years - 330 million people =- 1 in 400 dead .. rough risk of harm to Group A individusl of Death .. 1 in 400,000

Risk of death from vax 20,000 is latest dead figure .. 330 million - 1 in 16,500

Now ... we can factor in a bunch of things here - half of deaths for example are suspected to be "with covid" not from .. which halfs Group A risk of harm ..

Any way you slice it or dice it though .. risk of harm (death) from covid for Group A individual is less than from Vax. The same holds true for risk of severe adverse effect - showing up in hospital/ICU.

Keep in mind - the above calculations were for Delta and previous. Risk of harm to Group A from Omicron is much less.

But is that an artifact of the demographics of the vaccinated people?

If a greater number of vaccinated people are younger than that would throw off the mortality rate.

So it's not really a good enough go by to actually answer the question.

And now your immune system has been strengthened!

FYI the tests are bogus and a complete waste of time.

No reason? How about no long term testing for potential down the road side effects?

I had Covid before we knew what was making us all sick. In Dec of 2019 the So Cal ER's and urgent care clinics were standing room only. I fought it off without being hospitalized but it was bad. I had one of the variants about 3 months ago, it was no worse than my every springtime allergies. Anti-bodies testing proved it was Covid. Now here the kicker, I am 64 years old and have bad liver problems and stage 3 kidney failure. I had those problems in Dec of 2019. Breathing was difficult but not life threatening. I attribute that to never smoking. I still have had no vaccinations and here I am. About 3 weeks ago I was positive for Covid-19 again, this time, same as you I felt crappy with a little elevated temp and a headache (sinus). I am better now and feel great. Hope you get well soon.

If the vaccine doesn't kill the virus, it's just going to learn and replicate into another variant that is much stronger. Did we learn nothing from over prescribing anti-biotic's?

There are many non-political reasons not to get it. I will not be getting it, but I identify as vaccinated:p
