Look, I'm not denying their existence. Shitholes exist. Get over it.

I've been to the one in Wuhan. While a bit unsettling to a Western eye, it's not nearly the slaughterhouse you and others are portraying it as. Families often make a day of it. There are numerous restaurants within the market as well as a children's playground and a bank. The actual butchering takes place in a different zone of the market.

And before you jump up on your high horse, I am not condoning these types of markets (which exist outside of China as well). We Americans are so far removed from where I food actually comes from that we find the idea of these places even existing so horrifying. That's because we have been lulled to sleep by living in the First World. China hasn't reached that plateau yet.

So it was okay for him to refer to the virus by a racist name, just because it hadn't been officially named? Surely you can't be serious!

Clearly @Steve N was saying that HIS OWN PEOPLE will let him get away with it.

"Legionella bacteria can cause a serious type of pneumonia (lung infection) called Legionnaires’ disease. The bacteria can also cause a less serious illness called Pontiac fever."

    What do we call them?

Why shouldn't it be called in our layman's terms by it's origination like other virsus or diseases? Who is trying to make the political statement here? Why defend China?

So what's this have to do with me and where I live? NY is just another leftist stronghold just like SoCal.. Are you trying to prove my post? If you live with leftist in a leftist environment then don't be complaining.. All you have to do is find your way to I15 east and it gets less insane the more miles you put between you and there.

Don't argue with me, argue with the link I provided and the person that walked those lovely slaughter markets. But I bet its pretty cool walking thru bloody ice slush and watching cross contamination crawl from one species to the other crapping and pissing on one another in the warm summer sun :nod::nod::roll:

And again I ask: Do we now, or did we ever, refer to HIV as that "African Virus"?

    <Rule 3/9>

Paraphrasing you, there is not a soul on Earth who doesn't recognize where HIV came from.

Why not use the name that worldwide virologists have actually named it instead of resorting to parroting the idiot who tweeted about how well the stock market was doing, until it wasn't, while this mess unfolded?

How about we do that instead?

Seems like that's the way to adult when our government prefers crayons and sharpies.

OK? And how does that change anything I have said? I know the Bay Area and northern Cali very well. And the leftist at that end are no different then the hive you buzz around in the South.. They might be a little more odd but basically the same..

Guys, on March 25 I had surgery on my hand for Duputren's contracture, which is sometimes called Celtic Hand. The below pic was taken yesterday.

Now is the name of the condition a slur against the French guy it's named after, Frenchmen in general, or does it invite hurt feelings towards people who are Celtic?

Yes, it was active the year I was born.

Why are you so stuck in the past?

We have a virological system in place now that we did not have then, and a new way of classifying viruses.

Novel viruses are cataloged and given a name no longer dependant on their supposed place of origin for reasons that seem above the average conservative to comprehend.

Put it this way: If a novel coronavirus was first detected in your state, would you really, and think about this before replying, want it to be named for your state?

Just a reminder: This COVID-19 virus is suspected of coming from bats. Bats live all around the world. Flea bites bat in your home state. Bird eats flea. Mosquito bites bird then bites cow. You eat cow.

Now a new coronavirus is named after your state.

Just because it hasn't happened here does not mean that it will never happen here.

Too late. It's already been dubbed the China virus, or Wuhan virus if you prefer Acosta's name for it.

Considering that it was named after the first physician to document the condition, I'd say that that it is named appropriately.

That's still not how we name viruses anymore.

    What was your point, again?

Are you saying that naming a disease after a Frenchman isn't racist because of how long ago it was discovered? If time was a determining factor if something is racist or not, then someone needs to dig up Kate Smith and give her the good news.

The beauty of that is that it's only "China Virus" within the Trump bubble, which is finite. The rest of the world is calling it what it is, COVID-19, or simply coronavirus.

Jeez, it must suck to feel that insignificant that you resort to calling things something other than what the rest of humanity calls it.

Was it named after the first person who contracted it or the physician that developed the cure?

Please be smart enough to understand the difference.
