That's right I do agree that she has not right to use government power to violate the rights of others.

She is in jail for exercising her right to freedom of religion.

That's right. She took office before gay marriage was made the law of the land via an unconstitutional decision of Justice Kennedy.

She is upholding the law of her state. There is no federal law that says she has to issue marriage licences to anyone.

Therefore she is in jail because of her religious belief.

Well, look at it this way. Same-sex marriage is now the unimpeachable law of the land.

I chuckle thinking about all those regressives having trouble sleeping at night because they know that somewhere somebody is having government-sanctioned buttsex.

Jut think, 50 years ago... these two men trying to marry would've been refused because they are an interracial couple.

    You lose AGAIN social regressives!

I'm sure reasonable people can disagree, and while I don't agree with this woman, her objection is to her personal name being on the licenses that violates her religious beliefs, so she asked that her name be taken off the licenses. I see no reason why, and in fact I'm sure when a more reasonable judge gets a look at this, that this will be the accommodation. So from her point of view, which I don't necessarily agree with, whether she issues licenses with her name on them, or another does, the license is still going out with her personal name on them.

I don't think this requires a more reasonable judge or more accommodation for Kim Davis. She has another option if she doesn't want her name on the forms. She can resign. Her $80,000.00 a year job is to handle official county paperwork and she is the official. I fail to see how a piece of paper or her signature on a piece of paper is against her religion, but she is standing firm on that idea. Official paperwork generally includes the signature of the official. Otherwise, you could just print your own marriage license from a computer. There is a reason you must go to the office to get one- it's an official and legal document.

While I might agree with that, the fact is that people here are insisting that public officials should not break the law. That's why I pointed out the hypocrisy.

What is silly to me is that they make marriage all about sex when it much more likely to be about partnership and companionship.

That's just plain idolatry. Does God care about her name?

You haven't been through an employment issue over accommodation. There is solid case law against "take it or walk." We have a lot of different kinds of people with a lot of different beliefs. Employers are expected to make reasonable accommodations and even accept a modest burden and cost to do so.

:) As usual you just can't address the post you quoted ...:)

In the county that PAYS her SALARY she is obligated to follow the law....she didn't.

HER excuse for being in jail may be "poor little picked on Christian" but the world ( minus a few religious nuts) KNOWS why she really is in jail :)

No problem there is plenty of jail space for anyone else that wants to defy the orders of a Judge, they can be put there for up to a year and then repeat the process over and over until the judge gets tired of it.

Yes, gay people marry for the same variety of reasons straight people marry and we can pretty much agree that not all marriages are about explosive sex and sex marathons. These bible thumpers have such a stereotypical view of SSM.

Yeah, you would think an actual God would know what was in her heart...of course that would be contingent upon her having one.

Except "we" didn't choose it. A huge part of Scalia's dissent was just that: Five justices who scarcely represent the districts they came from, let alone the viewpoint of the country was to decide "the law of the land", which is utterly hypocritical and laughable. Especially given the otherwise private component that marriage is.

Defiing marriage as a "right" is a "right" the Court gave itself, not based on any factual basis. For there is no guarantee of marriage, for or by anyone. Marriage is a privilege derived by two willing individuals. The moment a person doesn't want to marry, that particular marriage doesn't happen. What if NO ONE wants to marry you? How will we enforce the "right to marriage"? It's lawfully and logically inconsistent, absurd and laughable.

That said Draco, it is the law of the land. I respect it, Kim Davis should've respected it too. But that doesn't mean we can't laugh at the twist and turns the SCOTUS has made lately. Citizens United ring a bell?

No. She's in jail for violating the 1st and 14th Amendment Rights of US citizens through the abuse of government power after being order by a court to do her job.

The fall for it every time.

Cliven Bundy, George Zimmerman, and now Kim Davis.

No doubt there will be a host of right wing and evangelical websites raising money for her "cause" (and taking their substantial rake off the top!)

She needs to stick to her guns. Not cave.Because caving is exactly what Obama
and his drat democrat party are used to.Being bullies. It worked twiced on our
Supreme Court.John Roberts in the 11th hour decided to back ObamaCare
and gave a realy lame reason as to why. Yes,the same John Roberts from Harvard
who allowed Obama to flub his Inaugural address then have a Redo the next day
    w/o a Bible.That's right.The Obama's could not locate a single Bible in ALL Our
White House for the Obama Re-swearing in { Map room }.
So The Obamas are definitely not predisposed to " clinging to their Bibles ".
Which also explains why Under Obama, the country has witnessed many attempts
to strike out at Christianity. From the Catholic church and Little Sisters of the
Poor to any business that appreciates Christianity { Chick-fil-A } and eharmony.
Plus local bakery and dress shops. The lefties like Obama seem to actually
get off by bullying those they refuse to be tolerant of.So why should a devout
Christian forgo her civil right to practice her faith on account this intimidated
Supreme Court managed enough votes to pass same-sex marriage.Didn't
Elena Kagan state almost emphatically this :
" There is no federal constitutional right to
    same-sex marriage. "

Her job is to ensure that the couple have met the legal criteria to be married. Then sign as a government representative that they have met this criteria , not hers. No Bibles necessary.
