Interesting but not sure how surfers factor into the topic of this thread. Fighting over waves is not limited to SoCal. Recall being punked in Santa Cruz for daring to surf Mavericks. Poor sportsmanship hasn't changed.

The California surf culture is one of the last things that still exist today from back when California was the Golden State.

    Surfers are very territorial.

Californians as a whole weren't territorial enough and lost California to liberals and progressive Democrats and illegal aliens.

"Enemy territory"? Good lord, you sound like a far left psychotic zealot setting up his "territories". Weirdo.

Face the facts, California is basically a 3rd world nation now. Massive poverty and homelessness. Drugs and feces in the streets. I asked you before why don't you oppose the policies that created this horrific mess? Or at the very least get off your lazy azz and actually go out and help your own left wingers who are suffering in the streets. Spreading your left wing propaganda and paranoia about "territory" makes you look like a nut.

It's a sad commentary on what once made California great has now been left to this feces-laden left wing mess.

No, it is caused mostly by low-interest rate policies forced on the Fed by pols unwilling to properly manage the economy and the influx of foreign capital investing in West Coast real estate. Blame Bush and conservatives for starting us down that path.

    Strange conflation.

BTW, have you been in South America? Am planning a trip to Rio de Janeiro this spring.

    Never been south of Panama.

I did most of my traveling around the world during the late 60's, 70's and 80's.

Born in Fresno and lived in Chico in early childhood. I remember pre-car air conditioning when you only traveled at night.

Yeah, that's it. It was a conspiracy by Bush to create poverty, debt, and homelessness in California while saving the other 49 states from that fate. ROFL.

Never been south of Cancun. Like Cancun I understand Brazil is only a bit of an expense getting there; everything else is low cost.

Yeah, I left LA, escaped to Napa, and finally left for good.

What to avoid? Letting developers destroy green space and create too much population density. A lot of the damage was done when Republicans were in control.
Too late in a lot of big cities.

    Atlanta? Houston? More ruined cities.

We had this circular tube filled with water like a swamp cooler in the side windows. It only worked if the car was on the open road going over 40mph

    Newport Beach here :woot:
Where one can get through the intersection on one green light.
Not so Irvine or South County.

Homeless people observed for a day or two with their stuffed bags
don't seem to hang around much.
Thank the Lord :worship: we don't have Venice beach type politicians.

When did it become a right to live where you want, even
though it could never be afforded? And on public property?
    Beverly Hills.
Santa Monica, next to Venice beach
    San Francisco.

We dearly need a system to reestablish vagrancy laws,
    that courts ruled unconstitutional.
If no residence, - offer one with rehabilitation as possible, case by case
But, not in the desired neighborhood "they" choose to live but could never afford.
Bartsow, Bakersfield, :flagcanada: etc. where property values allow.

You don't need free sh't if you live in Palos Verdes.

They were always on the heavy duty side. During the Watts riots, well-armed vigilantees blocked many (all?) entrances to the Peninsula and the only black people who could enter were cleaning ladies. I came back to visit from my apartment in Long Beach to see the vigilantees blocking PV Drive North coming from Harbor City.

Newport Beach is in congressman Harley Rouda district. Formerly a Republican, Rouda switched parties and booted out pothead Rohrabacher. You mention Bakersfield/ Barstow vying to become the spiritual home for nomad California Republicans.

It was the Thurmador car cooler.

Basically a swamp cooler for automobiles.

My father couldn't afford one when we drove from L.A. to Chicago across the Mojave Desert on Route 66 during the summer of 1957.

A lot of 4-60 air (60 mph, windows down). Park your car, come back, open the doors and stand outside for a few minutes before getting in...

And if you have sisters who don't want their sprayed hair disturbed by an open window you sit and sweat.

My father borrowed one from my grandfather when he had to go out to Edwards AFB regularly, declared it wasn't "worth sh't," and bought a '58 Ford with air conditioning. I loved riding in that car right away.

All neighborhoods outside of the riot area were guarded by the unorganized militia during the Watts riots.

My father and other WW ll vets stood post at the intersection of Rosecrans Ave and Sepulveda Blvd.

Every road leading into a residential neighborhood in Manhattan Beach had armed citizens standing post and protecting their neighborhoods.

Back when America was still great, Americans weren't dependent on government to protect their family and homes.
