Hard to blame them. Their reality really sucks.

But why not Texas or other warm climate states?

Could it be there are other factors besides just weather?

I am curious what is your perceived threshold on overpopulation? An influx of 50 million in a decade is not a problem? How about half a billion. Still not a problem?

We dont need more people at the beginning of automation age. It's a time bomb.

My math sense tells me its great that the natural pop growth is in decline(like in most of the western world) while the wealth is linear or growing(like in the most of the western world).
Importing people doesnt make sense economic or cultural, and no, we have no duty to help foreign people by importing them.

I agree with the big government being a problem.

People become a problem when they are not free to run their lives and take care of themselves. Automation may reduce the the number of productive jobs for human beings - or not. The future has always been less predictable that we like, but it is fair to assume that at some point population could be a bomb.

So far the experts who have predicted that outcome have been very wrong.

    California is becoming medieval.

Where do you draw the line with compassion?
At what point does compassion become counter-productive?

I remember the epidemic levels of awesome reagan inflicted on America. Most people completely stopped going into the cities unless they had no choice.

Wow, this thread has gone far off the rails, lol. Some good extermination tips & entomology 101 for dummies.

This thread is about the root of the problem (ideologies, policy, ideas & what distinguishes political camps) Not the symptoms of the problem (flees, rats, tent cities, crime, drugs, filth). I guess for me this forum is about ideas and changing opinions, indoctrination... No I'm kidding.

Without a doubt, the most impt. thing that has come out of this thread has been from my detractors! Carlos palm tree avatar guy & the elf guy, in particular, tks for bringing the conversation to the next step. How should we, the constituency, best deal with our crisis at the border & the crisis camped in our parking spots and entrance ways. This issue deserves a different thread, so I created one addressing the issue brought up by the the 2 gentlemen I mentioned above. Empathy vs. Reasoned Compassion

Alright carry on, I said my piece... :)

What is rather remarkable is that Skid Row comprises so many businesses [toy district/ fashion district]. Merchants don't want people sleeping in front of their stores but once closing time hits the tents pop up everywhere. It has the feeling of a giant drug-in at night that can be unsettling but I was never assaulted during the 2 years I worked at the Manning Center. The homeless knew we were there to help them and expressed much appreciation. I felt humbled by the hardships endured by the poor.

Florida and Texas - less homeless per capita than New York. Now what is the difference between the great state of Florida and the great state of Texas and liberal hell holes like California and New York? I'll give you a few moments to think about it....and it has NOTHING to do with weather.

    You are dismissed in embarrassment.

Don't you have something better to do than troll this board incessantly with your bogus left wing propaganda? Go out into your streets and start cleaning up the feces and needles from your left wing homeless. Actually do something to help your own ilk. Spraying your propaganda around here when anyone with IQ above room temperature centigrade can see right through the nonsense is a waste time. Help your fellow left wingers who live in misery.

I am told, by many former californians, one being my aunt and uncle, that this state is not the state that it once was, the state that had people all over america wanting to move there to live. They came back to Ms, once my aunt's native californian husband retired, to get the hell out of that cesspool. This is not the california of the 50s and 60s or even 70s, but something different.

And those changes is what the rest of america should take note of, and try hard to avoid.

Compassion and pity for the poor is understandable where poverty is the predictable result of the policies of a corrupt ruling political establishment - a ruling political class. There were no "homeless" on the streets until vagrancy laws nullified our "progressive" political establishment.

The problem with the kind of compassion that has been used to expand the size and power of government in the name of progress is that it leads to even greater suffering and eventually to mass murder, war and genocide.

"Moreover, sentiments, as distinguished from passion and prin-
ciple, are boundless, and even if Robespierre had been motivated
by the passion of compassion, his compassion would have be-
come pity when he brought it out into the open where he could
no longer direct it towards specific suffering and focus it on
particular persons. What had perhaps been genuine passions
turned into the boundlessness of an emotion that seemed to
respond only too well to the boundless suffering of the multitude
in their sheer overwhelming numbers. By the same token, he
lost the capacity to establish and hold fast to rapports with per-
sons in their singularity; the ocean of suffering around him
and the turbulent sea of emotion within him, the latter geared
to receive and respond to the former, drowned all specific con-
siderations, the considerations of friendship no less than con-
siderations of statecraft and principle. It is in these matters,
rather than in any particular fault of character, that we must
look for the roots of Robespierre's surprising faithlessness that
foreshadowed the greater perfidy which was to play such a mon-
strous role in the revolutionary tradition."
ON REVOLUTION, Hannnah Arendt, Penguin Classics, 2006. p. 90.

Of course, Robespierre meant well. Ditto Lenin.

Almost all Republican politicians are very progressive, and Fake Science is bipartisan and rampant.

Oops, your impotence is showing Mick. Don't like the real world so just call it "propaganda". Is that anything like the propaganda Republicans and Russians promote together? Sorry bunch, Trumped Republicans. The OP claims to have lived in Venice Beach and also New York City. If she is open about her politics in either city she has zero social life and even employment is risky. No need to don your MAGA caps, just open your mouth and then run for the hills, preferably in the Ozarks to finally be safe among yahoos.

Are you more like Trump or Putin [bottom or top]?

Yeah, it's tough being a Republican in California, the most populous/ popular state nation in America. Mississippi is superior to California in every way, right?
