Where did a right wing insurgency try to shut down a liberal speaker? And my logic is I take this Democrat at his word.

Easy for a competitor to enter and provide that service.....

So you think it would be easy for someone to take on Facebook, Google, Twitter, NBC, CBS, NPR, MSNBC, CNN, New York Times, Washington Post...…

I have my doubts that would be possible, especially when some of them control the means of distribution.

If you took him at his word, you would take the last part of what he said at his word, so there goes that theory. Trump had his administration look into further amending/restricting the First Amendment. That's more than Lieu ever did.

And he said it being in the way was a good thing. But paying attention to that part would destroy the fantasy.

I just did a google search for Fox News, and got nothing but stories from Fox and links to their home page. Seems to work fine for me.

Providing a media service is pretty easy as far as entry goes. Anyone with a computer can start. Start your own website (inexpensive compared to other business costs) and no one will control your means of distribution.

If not for the power of government, what power would he have to limit speech on his own? My guess is none. What does it matter what he would do without government since that’s not the environment in which we exist?

No they do not. I could say "anything" I want outside of their forum, and there is not a damn thing they can do about.

Fox News appears to be doing quite well for itself.

It only matters because it reveals his true intentions, which are SCARY. If a Republican congressmen said, "I'd love to make abortion illegal, but I really can't because there are laws on the books that will never be overturned."...wouldn't that make you worry? Democrats use that example ALL THE TIME to claim Republicans want to ban abortion, even though THEY CAN'T!!! The thing is, it is far easier to moderate speech because its happening all the time. College campuses already do it. Corporations already do it. The MSM is doing it.

Would the Republican end that sentence with something along the lines of “, but I think it’s a good thing that the government can’t ban abortion.”? That’s the only way your example would be relevant to what Lieu said.

    His quote from the article:

"The First Amendment prevents me from doing so, and that's simply a function of the First Amendment, but I think over the long run, it's better the government does not regulate the content of speech."

    So what is your point?

Looks like the outrage in the thread is starting to subside. I think this is finally getting through to them.

For the few that actually support it, probably not. The thing is MOST Republicans really don't want it banned at all. Or they just don't think there needs to be a federal law. Doesn't stop some people from losing their minds though. But the thing is, managing free speech is something shared by many Democrats and Liberals. Its in their actions. You don't see Republicans marching against people speaking. They certainly don't burn down campuses or violently threaten people. But Liberals do...ALL THE TIME. And this is always ironic considering how open compassionate and considerate Liberals are supposed to be towards free speech. Just not speech they don't like, which is again...scary.

Are you against people exercising their freedom of speech through protest? It seems to scare you a lot.

If the company's HR policies are clear on it, you can become a neo-racist and the company can fire you for not representing the company's best interests.

You have no control over that, Divine Comedy. You do not have the 'free speech' in your company platform or, in most cases, outside of it, unless it is political.

Only you are saying silly stuff like that. We can take the congressman's speech as his own, but we can't say it applies to the majority of our Democrats and expect to be believed.

    Refuses to denounce liberal fascism.

Has no evidence to his claim about the right whatsoever.

    So painfully predictable.

Except the most popular platforms run by liberals you support that target conservatives to limit their exposure. Amazing how little you understand about your own argument.

His statement concluded with 1st Amendment = good thing.
Anyone claiming to have any difficulty finding conservative voices on these platforms is either lying or hasn't ever bothered to look. I find them every day.
