    US debates sanctions against Iraq

Why do you try to deny history .. pretend you have not been shown this previously .. Strange ..

Because you are not stating history. You are deliberately and dishonestly misstating what you are calling "history".

U.S. "support" for Iraq during the Iran/Iraq War was always tepid at best. The general U.S. position was that said by Henry Kissinger who restated what Winston Churchill said after the German invasion of the U.S.S.R. in World War Two.

    "Pity they both can't lose"

As long as you continue to insult President Ronald Reagan, I will not take anything you say seriously no matter how many sources you cite.

"Tepid at best" .. what does that mean - Rottin Ronnie only partially condoned Saddam's genocide and use of chemical weapons.

What a joke of a response .. especially given your rancid denial "Prove it .. Prove it" That Reagan Supported Saddam at all .. and now you have moved the goal post to "Tepid at best" cause you had it handed to you once again .. on the same subject .. as has been handed to you previously ... doesn't say much for your memory mate.

How is this not "History" and what has been "mis-stated" ?

    1) That Saddam / Iraq was a "client State" is a matter of historical fact ..
    2) That Rotten Ronnie supoorted Saddam during his genocide and chemical weapons use .. is historical fact
    3) That Ronnie worked hard to prevent Saddam from being sanctioned .. having Saddam's back is a matter of historical fact

All is historical fact .. you the one desperate to apologize for Rotten Ronnie's atrocities - time and time again.

Virtually none of Iraqs weapons came from the United States. Almost all were from the U.S.S.R. and France. That is a historical fact.

So some "client state" Iraq was of the U.S.

He'll probably link to something about the U.S. selling Iraqi "precursor chemicals" that Iraq then made into chemical weapons. Of course like it says "precursor chemicals" are not actual "chemical weapons" but have to be heavily modified to become usable weapons.

I researched this extensively and the only U.S. built weapons that showed up in Iraqi hands were IIRC some cluster bombs that initially had been provided by the U.S. to a South American country.

What does Iraq using Kalashnikovs have to do with Reagan Supporting Saddam while he was using Chemical weapons.

You are really grasping at straws in your desperate attempts to apologize for the atrocity of Rotten Ronnie.

Reagan sold weapons to Iraq. But he sold them to Iran at the same time.

Of Course .. we are big arms dealers .. the biggest are we not ? .. but that is not relevent to the issue of supporting a nasty genocidal poison gas using dictator.

How did Reagan "support" Saddam? And I would wager good money that Iraqi Kalashnikovs (AKMs) killed many times more people than Iraqi chemical weapons.

Wasn't it better to support Saddam Hussein than Iran? Remember Iran had just months earlier committed an overt act of war against the U.S. (seizing the U.S. embassy).

    People forget the obvious:
Saddam Hussein in 1979 was not remotely the same as Saddam Hussein in 1991.

Back in 1979 Saddam Hussein was very much similar to Kemal Attaturk, Anwar Sadat or for that matter the Shah of Iran. That is he was seen as modernizer of his nation and an enemy of radical Islam.

Ask the NY-Times .. from the link provided previously " In the Halabja poison gas attack of March 16–March 17, 1988, Iraqi government forces used chemical weapons against the Iraqi Kurdish town of Halabja - killing 3,200-5,000, most of them civilians.[1] This was during the Iran–Iraq War, in which the US government supported Iraq's Saddam Hussein".

You now trying to claim that we were not allied with Iraq in its war against Iran ? What a joke .. pretending to not know stuff that you clearly do .. go troll some other pond..

Yes, at one stage the USA supported Iraq - this was the cold war and
Iran had a 'change' in govt..
The USA did not approve of chemical weapons. The USA did not have
any control over Iraq's chemical weapons. The USA sought to prevent
the use of chemical weapons and engaged in extensive searching for
them. The same chemical weapons most likely were not 'tipped out in
the desert somewhere' but shipped to Syria - where Obama did nothing
    about their use.

Note that 'novichok' or whatever Putin uses against his own domestic opposition.
Hardly seen anyone on the Left actually say, 'Hang on a minute, I thought Russia
    no longer has chemical weapons.'
    Nah...
That's about how it was back in Reagan's day - the USSR was the bigger fish, and
    not much sympathy for Iran.

It wasn't that support that was the problem .. it was the continued support .. when the war with Iran over - and long after it had been established that there would be no winner .. was when the dictatorial genocidal maniac used chemical weapons on his own people - Support which was increased under Daddy Bush

but even if that were not the case - no .. we don't support regimes using chemical weapons ... a massive violation of international law .. geneva .. and so on Mr. History teacher .. who seems to have trouble with the basics - don't you remember Obama's "Red Line"

So desperate to apologize for atrocity .. Suppose one would have to be to be a worshiper of Rotten Ronnie.
