No, that's not what I mean at all. It has nothing to do with Chinese money or real estate .. I'm talking purely of social culture. We've absorbed a lot of the East here, because it's where we are. It was inevitable.

As for what life would be like if the East ruled the world, I'm inclined to think it would be just .. Eastern. And there are as many beauties therein, as there are in the West - and just as many uglies. But we DO have a palate for it in this part of the world, so our transition will be less painful than it will be for those in the geographical West.

Interesting. Could you kindly expand on it and explain what you mean by the "social culture"?

Just what develops in the social space. Eventually behaviours merge and produce something a little bit of each, but not really one or the other. Non-Asian Australians and New Zealanders have quite a lot of the East in their general behaviour. We're deferential, relatively quiet (when not drunk!), quite a bit more authority-reverent than Europeans and Americans, and tend to eat and recreate in similar ways to our northern neighbours. It's unconscious this many generations in, and so isn't something your average young white Australian/New Zealander would even be aware of.

This cultural difference will make any transition to a more Eastern authority, much easier for us. Especially those from the cities, where the hybridisation is more complete.

You don't know where I live or what economic situations I have experienced, but you sure seem eager to make assumptions about both.

But it's true that I do not share your pessimism. In fact, much of this pessimism about America's economy and politics seems to come not from within America, but from foreign influencers who want us to feel down about our country and think the way you seem to think.

The rest of this screed just confuses me. What am I in denial about and just what am I supposed to do about it, whatever it is?

Those all seem to be some good things from the East you are picking up, although regrettably, on these issues, the East itself is getting a lot more westernized.

Just further to the difference between "Westerners in the East" and actual geographic Westerners .. we have new, fresh-out-of-Europe neighbours, and they are SO loud and boisterous compared to the rest of the neighbourhood. No sense of privacy at all, and they never freaking stop talking - at a thousand decibels. The fact that everyone is so aware of it, shows you how different our society is here. And these new people are ordinary folk, not madly eccentric or anything like that.

It's not that we don't do noise here .. it's that we've taken on that Asian discomfort with brashness and 'confidence'. We'll happily blast our loud music, but we're very squirmy about our private conversations etc.

I don't know .. I kinda think the hybrid is quite a good balance. I wouldn't want too much more of the Western though, because that would nullify the beauties of Eastern culture.

Oh, you think of it as pessimism? Well that definitely tells me your response comes from fear. I find it motivational, for example - precisely because I'm not afraid. I can therefore regard each new 'insult' as inspiration to keep building.

Meantime, are you genuinely asking me what you're supposed to do about saving yourself from a potential future of potential starvation?

hybrids picking up the best, discarding or minimizing the worst, are great...kind of like natural selection...but there can be bad hybrids too: picking up the worst of both and discarding the good.

Should I start hoarding canned goods? Maybe buy a few dozen guns?

I don't do guns myself, but hey .. if they'll help you sleep at night.

Meantime, you should probably just live as though there's no tomorrow. And don't forget to sneer at people who remind you of what you're not doing to save yourself! That will make it all go away for a few hours, and you can spend those hours pretending 2019 will be back any second.

Tucker Carlson disagrees. He has frequently spoken his mind against the mainstream with no banning of his opinion. And, there are multiple media sources, albeit non mainstream, that can freely speak their minds. You won't get that in a communist nation.

It seems your problem is that you don't know the difference between opinion and news. I said news.

Exactly. So no need to go all mental and do stuff to save yourself.

I mean, those guys standing around the waterfront in Northern Japan to watch the Tsunami roll in ... their feet were dry for a while.

I'd be happy to, if it meant not having to do 2020, 2021, and 2022 again. Is that the deal?

Okay, let's just say things are going to return to First World middle class perfection shortly.

See ... no need to do a thing. Relax, enjoy, and buy only what you need for the next day or two.

I'm highlighting the profound denial that so many Westerners are in. It's not technically our fault, as the media are not discussing any of this stuff .. and what little they are discussing is watered down to almost toddler-friendly. To get any sense of what's really going on, and how it all intersects, you have to look to foreign media. Various sources preferably.

We're being kept in the dark. These folk who think their Govt would tell them if there was anything to worry about, are living in another era.
