    :roflol:

I've ran across a more than a few who would claim that the bullet exiting the barrel of a M-16 A1 was tumbling through the air.

Here's the poop on the M-16's politically incorrect ammunition that we used in Vietnam, the 55 gr. M193 5.56 ammunition.

The source is from the Wiki talk page.

Nope; the station is about 1/4 mile away staffed 24/7.

UM at ranges in excess of a hundred yards, if you are firing 5 shots a second from a semi auto rifle you really aren't taking time to aim.

It would take him longer than ninety seconds to exit the building get in his car fasten his seat belt and drive there. How many police are there what size is the station's patrol area how many cops are at the station to patrol that area and how many officers are normally in reserve. There is a reason that the response time nation wide is 10 minutes. And you aren't allowing time to make that 9/11 call transfer the appropriate info to the operator then transfer that info to a patrol car, and the patrol car for your area may be a lot more than a 1/4 mile away at the point he is contacted.

This guy I had the altercation with did claim that the bullet tumbled in the air. No amount of explaining averdynamics and physics works on these idiot liars. PS this incident occurred before PTSD was "invented " for us Vietnam vets. My wife being a very smart girl finally convinced me that I could not go around losing it like that with Idiots.

No ! And I do not know that term. This guy was not the first ignoramous who has tried to push the tumbles through the air story about M16's. I had a case a few years ago after the funeral of a good friend a Veteran. Same type of idiot a guy who never served got deferments and started out the conversation by telling me how lucky I was being Air Force since " you didn't see combat behind the lines". I did not react since my wife was sitting next to me but she turned him into a eunach with a few well placed words. She told me later that she could not allow the coward to talk that way to "her" Vietnam Vet. I told her she was the one with PTSD not I. It seems as if Inalways bump into some 4F Chicjen Hawk who claims to have a cousin who is a combination of Audie Murphy, RAMBO, John Wayne and the American Sniper rolled into one. The mind of a 4F POS is amazxing.

    What is key holing?

I was just trying to get into the gist of the statement and the point being made. The tumbling bullet out of the barrel has been urban myth for some time. What really happens is not tumbling but yaw. The less stable the round in flight the more likely it is to yaw when it hits a human. The original 5.56 55 grain in Vietnam era weapons with slow barrel twists was a case in point. So was the SMLE in most of its variations. Besides all conicals will yaw as they slow down and lose stability. The rear of the projectile wants to catch up the the front.

You are aware the Mini-14 is used by the militaries of a couple of countries, right?

There is a risk in anything you do in life; you have to gauge what you stand to lose over what you stand to gain; for me the risk is more than acceptable. I've lived this way for decades with no problem whatsoever. Could someone break in and I have to wait for 5 minutes? Extremely unlikely but its a risk I'm willing to take.

How have you been acquainted with firearms and not encountered keyholing issues?

I'd be keen on knowing who that is. Uganda? Wonder how much approval Ruger had to get for a foreign military contract like that?

As an aside and fun fact: Bill Ruger invented the machine gun that would be turned by FN into the MAG. He built the prototype in 1943 and it could have been in service by 1944 but the War Department didn’t want it.

The troops at Normandy could have had 240B’s firing 30’06 but nope. The 1919A6 was “good enough”.

They remain civilian rifles used by the military for specialized purposes. Just as the military uses knives designed for civilian use for specialized purposes. Just as the military uses pickup trucks designed for civilian use for specialized purposes.

    So what's your point?

This is why modern ammo, including military, has gone to boattail bullet design instead of straight. Less turbulence and less wobble. Plus some other advantages.

It's not a risk *I* am willing to take for my family! And I also *know* from experience what the response time *is* here. It's closer to twenty minutes and 90sec.
