He gave the President the daily intelligence briefing. My uncle resigned his commission in 1965 after LBJ escalated. He thought LBJ was crazy to get in an Asian land war. JFK was going to pull us out after the 1964 election. I thought Carter screwed up dealing with the hostages. He should have told the mullahs to hand them over or see us coming to get them. On FDR, try reading this book on that topic along with the basis of the Great Depression. i recall it well since My parents had ration books to limit what they could buy. War revived the economy. (This I learned from a variety of excellent books available) Definitely our men went to war in Korea poorly supplied. And the weapons they used were not effective vs the North Korean armor. I got this directly from battle reports from the WWW pertaining to my uncles combat unit. WW2 used several of my uncles. All enlisted. Alvin survived Korea and served several tours in Vietnam at the rank of Command Sgt. Major. So he made out well. Carter did screw up with the hostages so I saved that for later but you mentioned it first. We had the chance to teach Iran a lasting message. I have had some deep and interesting conversations in person with various Iranians. Including the former head of police communications for the Iranian police forces.
