Muslims say they worship the same God as Christians because they worship the god of Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, but if you look past the superficial similarities, here is the reason why the two religions have a different god.

1-The Quran says that the name of God is Allah. The personal name of God isnt mentioned in Jewish-Christian scriptures (http://www.gotquestions.org/name-of-God.html), and even if it was, it definitley isnt Allah. Allah isnt the Arabic word for God. It means "the god", which was the name of the moon god Muhammads family worshipped. Heres more info on the name Allah. http://www.letusreason.org/Islam11.htm

2-The nature of God in the Quran is totally different from the nature of God in the Bible. The Bible and the Torah dont say God will give you virgins in paradise or hates nonbelievers.

Islamic theology, despite including many significant bible characters, also has elements of medieval Arabian beliefs (like their concept of Iblis the devil being a jinn-jinns are beings from arabian paganism) and isnt a copy of the bible. Many OT prophets like Isaiah, Daniel, Hosea, Jeremiah, are either not in the Quran or are mentioned very briefly with barely any story at all.

Does this really require a separate thread to the other one?

I maintain that the problem is that similarity is not well defined for such concepts. The question can't have an answer unless you postulate definitions which in effect cause the answer to be this or that rather than the similarity of the concepts in question.

But, if we like bickering for the sake of bickering, then by all means go ahead.

    1) potatoes are called different names in different places, but they're still potatoes.

    2) you say the god of the koran is unlike the god of the bible, but many christians assert that the bible is merely an interpretation of God's message (as 'received' by its authors, and fitted to time and place). in that case, why isn't the koran seen as just another interpretation, fitting the time/place?

Its not just the name-its also that Allah has a totally different nature from the Judeo Christian god. Here are some examples of that. http://www.answering-islam.org/Shamoun/god.htm

The paradise of Islam is made up of some 30 different allegories about cool rivers, abundant fruit etc.......... Have you read ANY of them?

The main theme is that paradise includes the presence of God..

once again, if one group of a particular time and place can INTERPRET a god as they see fit, then others can do the same (for their own time and place). Further, Abrahamic theists assert there is only one god, so this renders your argument weaker still. Your own dogma insists it's the same god.

That is the reason why Islam has the crescent moon as their symbol.

Yes, a god of force, as Daniel told us would happen:

36 And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every (known) god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, (YHVH), and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.

37 Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.

38 But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.

39 Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, (Allah), whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.

One is a Jewish god; the other is an Arabian god. Neither one is relevant to me.

You're supposed to drink beer when you are dying, not after you're dead.

Proverbs 31:6 (NIRV) = "Let beer be for those who are dying.
Let wine be for those who are sad and troubled."

Islam has their own God name Alalh, Satan (jin), Adam and Eve borrowed and plagiarized from the Bible
Christianity's God is Jesus Christ the God who created the first human Adam and Eve.
Same name only not the same true Adam and Eve of the Bible.

Jews say the same about Christianity, just plagiarized from their religion

and of course Jews plagiarized from religions before them, the new always seem to build on top of the old

Jews accept the OT is part of their religion all the of the OT characters, history and stories the same with Jewish religion nothing has been change or plagiarized.

Other religions before the Jewish religion were all myth of their own the Jewish religion is the science that presented the true religion.

So, did you redeem your donkey's first born with a lamb or did you break his neck? Exodus 34:20.
How was the latest Feast of Unleavened Bread (Genesis 34:18). And what about the Feast of Weeks and the Feast of Ingathering (Exodus 34:22). Had any young goats for dinner lately? Exodus 34:26.

The Quran is hateful and it says Muslims are the best of people and calls non-muslims vile. Where does the Bible say that Christians are best? Where does the bible express hatred to non-Christians? Allah and Jehovah have totally different natures, and they are different gods.
