And there are lots of things trump could have done better. He could have told people that it was a serious threat instead of downplaying it. He could have encouraged social distancing, very strongly. He could have encouraged the use of masks and shown leadership by publicly using one himself.

I agree China’s numbers are suspect. The death toll could be double or triple what they’re reporting. Maybe even ten times, at a stretch. But I don’t think they could hide a one hundred fold reduction.
