So what is my critera for identity?

But aren't you connected to culture, family and land here? You are an Australian aren't you?

And land. That's right, we are connected to Australia by culture, family and land. Aboriginals don't have a monopoly on it. I am no lesser an Australian because I have no aboriginal ancestor.

    Irish. Pretty simple TV.

Where have I said a persons identity is based on their physical features? Are you saying physical features are no indication of a persons identity? If a full blood desert aboriginal walked into the room you would not know they were aboriginal? But of course in most cases physical features are only an indication of a persons heritage which is not necessarily the same as their nationality or culture. What is a person who has real aboriginal parents but works at a job 9 to 5, lives in a brick veneer house in suburbia, drives a car, has a mobile phone, never 'goes bush', in other words lives, behaves and has the same wants and aspirations as any other 'white' Australian?

My great, great, great, great grandfather was transported to Australia as an Irish convict in the early 1800's, are you telling me I should feel no connection to Australia, to this land? You claim aboriginals are connected by blood but you say I am not. Why is that? I feel this land is my home no less than any aboriginal! If you don't feel connected to Australia TV I suggest you leave and go to where ever it is that you do feel connected to.

Not unusual for aussie though. It's the reason I usually don't debate his replies, at least those like D&D think, maybe they sometimes get off track but they do think.

I don't think aussie has ever had an original thought but he is better then Culdav who cannot post without childish schoolyard language.

    Go back and read....come on

They have 60 thousands years of history and connection.....that is quite significant. We have 200years
    60,000 yrs
    200 yrs
That's at least 300 times our existence in this land......you can't tell that is not significant enough not to lay some legitimate claim above and beyond ours.... That would be simply outright racist not to acknowledge this! What is your concern with acknowledging this significance? This always has flabaghasted me about this silly attitude! I have no problems acknowledging this....maybe you have had a bad experience with aborigines, well I have too but that doesn't take away other factors of their history and tenure!

Aborigines had a different relationship to land. We couldn't compare their relationship to land to our relationship to land. This is kind of silly due to ignorance. We are connected by family and culture not land! Land was sacred and respected by aborigines, we hammered it for whatever we could get out of it. Please don't try to convince me we have a close spiritual connection....lol!

My point....do you see how loosely we connect ourselves......Aborigines arent loose with their connection and blood connection to that land is significant due to different outlook!

How do you tell who an Australian is by physical features?

They are still aborigines.......what an ignorantly stupid and racist comment! What do you call a European Australian in the same situation. We white Europeans don't have a monopoly on western values! Your racism and ignorance is blatant. I'm sorry to say this AM! It doesn't take much to think beyond superficial views. I grew up with a deeply racist and ignorant grandfather....I wanted to understand more! As I said, I had bad experiences but that doesn't take away from truthful honesty!!

I feel connection to Australia and its culture and this is my home! unfortunately there are people who have a stronger connection........again, what is there to be afraid of in acknowledging this? i still feel like i belong despite this! Some of us have to live with the fact that we will be ugly for all of our days. There are some who live all their lives with no parents! Unfortunately we have to live with the fact that other people have had a longer association and connection to this great land that we proudly call home! I suppose our ancestors did take it illegally as per the high court mabo decision to overturn the doctrine of terra nullius!

Hey man, heaps of Government official whities have came to our rural communities asking us what we really want and need man. We tell these whities that we need schools to educate our kiddies, so the whities build schools and send teachers here to our communities. But hey man, we are so stoned and drunk that we don’t bother sending our kiddies to these schools to be educated. Then a few years later man, we start blaming the whities for not educating our kiddies. Hey man, we have to keep blaming the whities for all our problems because they took our land. These whities come to our communities, physically hold us down, and force alcohol, drugs and petrol down our throats. Hey man, we don’t have to take any responsibility for ourselves or our decisions, because the whities took our land.

It's alright folks, take solace in the knowledge that these lunatics are only a minority in the world and completely dead forums like this are the only way they can feel important and that their viewpoint is sane, because this is where the loons congregate in a big, loving circle-jerk that only serves to further delude them from public opinion. It takes decades of ignorance to get that stupid.

I'm out. I just can't read these guys posts without shaking my head in shame that they live on the same island as me.

Can't debate what, "pathetic political correctness"?
Do you read all the posts?

I'll say it again, just for you. TV has explained it many times as well.

You seem stuck on two words, this is the basis of a "strawman".. Urban Aboriginal is not politically incorrect in itself, it is the context in which it is used, the whole speech was politically incorrect, it stated that one Aboriginal was a better representative of Aboriginal affairs because they came from the bush rather then one who didn't.

Do I think the phrase "urban Aboriginal" is politically incorrect?
No, not if it's used correctly and without prejudice.

As you know, my partner is Aboriginal, I would call her an urban Aboriginal, but she is also a very proud member of the Gumbaingirr nation. She travels home to the Nambucca Valley quite regular.

She was put in a home as a baby, she still calls the two white families that took her in during holidays as "mum and dad", but she said that she always felt different, was treated different, it wasn't within her control, it was the way she was treated by the school, by parents of other students etc. When she turned 15 she moved back to her country.

She was very confused there, she had been brought up in a white world. She was raised in strict Methodist households, she still to this day is paranoid in small places because of the hours she spent locked in a woodshed as a child.

She left Nambucca a few months later and enrolled herself in a boarding school in Manly, she comp;eted her schooling herself. After leaving school, with a good education (she would run rings around some of you here) she again returned home to try and find her roots.

She worked in pre-schools and schools in her home town to try and help the young ones to get a better start. She is torn between her upbringing and the feelings in her soul. She is an extremely proud Aboriginal woman, she often tells me of the shame she feels about a lot of her people. She understands though that issues have been passed down from parents to children, she also knows that this is wrong and tells her family that this is 2012, we need to move forward. But the issues keep coming up. I have witnessed first hand the disgusting treatment of a person just because they are Aboriginal.

We have fought for custody of one of her grandchildren, when we were in the court in Sydney, 2 different (white) barristers saw her and came to speak to her, I was a little amazed, they took pictures from their wallets and were showing them to her, they laughed and talked and when they left they hugged each other. I asked what was theat about. She told me they were parents of children she had taught in preschool and I understood, often when walking around Redfern a white businessman or woman would come up to her and say hello, often primary or high school age children would wave to her, or run up to her to say hello. She has taught in a few private pre-schools around Redfern and Surry Hills now for nearly 12 years.

BUT ... when travelling north once,k we were doing no wrong, we had picked up my 86 year old father in his home town and was taking him shopping, Dad was in the back seat of my Ford, she was in the passenger seat. A police officer pulled us over, I got out and asked what I had done, he ignored that and told me to ask the woman to get out, I said why, he said it was nothing to do with me, she got out and said, "what, it's because I am black". He said, "Look, I would shut up if I was you, I would love nothing better then to get you alone at the police station". Unfortunately for him he hadn't seen my Dad in the back seat. Dad then got out, the cop went pale, Dad said "Oh and why is that, I have lived in this town for 70 years, I know the mayor, I have known all the mayors, I know the sargent, maybe we should all go back to the station and discuss it". He er umed for a minute then said, "Oh I thought she was someone else, sorry, mistaken identity, they all ... er um, You free to go". She said, "what, all look the same, yes we do, we all have dark skin". I wanted to kick his f'n face in the rednecked prcik, I have heard of the pleasure police get from black women, they may hate them, maybe that is the pleasure they get from raping them.

Dozens of times I have seen it, yes a large proportion of Aboriginals break the law, but after being treated like that I felt like doing it to, I have never been so disgusted to be white.

I remember a few years back, the RSL complained bitterly about the Australian Armed Forces buying japanese vehicals because of the war, we held a grudge against them for 40 years, but what the Japanese did was in a war.

It's just over 40 years since we have recognised them (Aboriginals) as human, just over 40 years since we recognised that Australia did have humans inhabiting it before we came, and why didn't we do it earlier, because if we had, we would have had to admit we took this country by force, against the will of it's inhabitants and my God we could have done that could we.

Fo 60 000 years they lived here, in peace, in sync with the environment. We came with our guns, our fences, our foreign animals, diseases, we brought cactus, foxes and rabbits. We took the best land and forced them into the deserts, the expected them to survive. We vdamed the rivers, fenced the grasslands and killed the Kangeroos and over fished the rivers and seas and introduced things like Carp that have wiped out the fresh water fish.

The we paid them in alcohol so we didn't have to pay them wages, we got them hooked on alcohol so we could pay them with a cheap bottle of booze rather then an equal wage. Drugs were the next logical step for them. For 60 000 years they lived here with no alcohol, no drugs, no idea of our materialistic society.

Then we forced it apon them, the churches said they were savages, they needed to be "Christianised", we said they were savages, they needed to be materialistic like us. It's not 200 years they have had to assimilate, its 50, remember they wern't humans until 1967.

Yes they have issues, yes they should get over them, go to the RSL, there you will find Aussies with issues about Germans and Japanese, tell them to get over them.

My partner doesn't have an answer, her heart breaks daily for her people, for her nation, for her country. I know dozens like her, I berlong to a mens group, both black and white men, we are slowly moving forward, a son of my partners cousin has just joined the police force. He had hopes of changing the attitude of police, of being pro-active, but he says it is so hard, the prejudices are nearly trained into them.

10's of thousands of people both black and white are working to right the wrongs, to help our indigenous people to become citizens of Australia. Groups like the facebook group "One Generation", others like the ones who made Marbo: The man, Redfern Now etc are trying to tell us of how they feel, movies like Rabbit Proof Fence and 10 Canoes try to tell us where they come from, do we listen, no most of us can't see past "Lazy Black Cnts" or "F'n Coons". For every step forward that we make, idiots like Culdav push them back 2, and cops like the ones I told you about push us back 3 and Abbott through not "thinking", push us back 10.

Culdav, every time you see a coon drinking goon until he is pie eyed and rolling in the gutter remember this .... IT IS YOU AND THOSE LIKE YOU THAT BOTH PUT HIM THERE AND KEEP HIM THERE.

My partner is only ashamed of some of her people, I am bloody disgusted in some of mine. CD, you top my list, but I think you already know that.

If you really were following this thread, not just looking for things to spew up your trash talk about, you would have seen something like this from me.

Is "Urban Aboriginals" pollitically incorrect? .... NO
Is Abbott racist? NO, I don't think so.
Is Abbott a mysogynist? No, I don't beleive he is.
Is Abbott a lier? No I do not believe he deliberately lies.

So what do I have against Abbott? He is a fool, his mouth and brain are not connected and he does not have the ability to lead the opposition yet alone the country. See him at the child care centre, he grabbed a kid and said "Hey, I need a cuddle", then pulled the kid to him, turned him a little so the photographer coukld get a good shot, then as soon as the picture was taken he totally ignored the kid. He didn't need a cuddle, he needed a photo of him cuddling a kid.

But yes he is what we need as the figure head of this country....NOT

It’s a bit rich for Aborigines to say they own Australia, when scientists proved that “Mungo Man” pre dates Aborigines. DNA testing also goes on to show that “Mungo Man” and Aborigines were NOT related.

These DNA test results are inconclusive, because the Aborigines will not allow further DNA testing on the remains of “Mungo Man”.

What are they scared of - the test results proving beyond doubt that “Mungo Man” IS NOT related to them, and pre dates their ownership of Australia?

I suppose I too wouldn’t want to give up a small piece of bone for DNA testing if it meant being discovered as fraudulent owners of land.

I say to the Aboriginal people: give the scientist a small sample of “Mungo Man” bone for DNA testing, and lets see what the true results are. Whats to hide except the truth!

I suspect there's some do-gooder who's carts need some air in the tyres. LOL LOL LOL There is nothing stopping these do-gooders from taking a $10,000 bank loan out, and donating that money to next Aborigines they meet - is there. :) Or is that suggestion just one step or one cup of latte beyond their do-gooder ability. LOL LOL

Sorry CD but your comments are is irrelevant as you are and you will never be able to see a solution to the problem because it's you and those like you who ARE the problem. So reduce the carbon tax you are paying and turn off your computer and go play outside like a good boy.

As with all do-gooders, once you begin your crusade, you’re completely unstoppable; with all logic and commonsense flying out the window, as you strive towards your insignificant agenda.

I overheard a conversation between a distinguished Australian Aboriginal man and a young European Australian. The young European Australian asked him politely if he could live like he did a hundred years ago........I was really keen to know what the response was going to be. The Aboriginal man politely counteracted this question with his own question......"could you live like you did 100 years ago"? The young man said "absolutely not", with the aboriginal man replying with ditto! We are evolving together, but the difference between our peoples 2 worlds prior to contact was necessity! We didnt need a new world, we didnt need boats or serious weapons to defend our territories! We were contented with our place!

The way I see it for what its worth.

In order for us all to move forward into the future, we must relinquish the past. That doesn't mean forget it, but we must move past it. Holding one generation to blame for the atrocities of generations well past is not fair. The blame game must stop. The labelling must stop. We are all Australian. We come from different backgrounds, we come in different physical shapes and appearances, and we come with different ideas and ideals..... But we are all Australian.

What would you expect ? Australia is a land of diversity and difference, so why would its people not mimic the very physical nature of this great land ?

For me, I would like to see an end to the labelling. You see by calling someone an Italian Australian, German Australian, Chinese Australian, European Australian, and an aboriginal Australian, we are pointing out our differences. When we call someone a fellow Australian we are pointing out our similarities, and with human nature, we like similarity, we like belonging.

That's just the way I see it.

As to Abbott`s statement, it was obvious that he was simply expressing the wish to see an under represented section of the community gain representation. It was as simple as that. Any bullsh1t distortion, of Abbott`s statement is beneath contempt, the tactic of dishonesty, complete WOFTAM.

Those with an agenda of driving a wedge between Aboriginal Australians invariably use distorted and selective history, and unadulterated lies to cause outrage, guilt, and hate. The movie "Rabbit Proof Fence" is one example of many, full of lies, but so often quoted as gospel in the quest to grow the hate between differing groups. Equally, to drive in the wedge of political correctness, is to exassibate existing friction, without solving a (*)(*)(*)(*)ed thing.

When you build barriers against people who are inclined to accept you. When you insult and lie. When you cherry pick the past, and the present, and try to missreprepresent the truth, and try to denigrate the character of others, you are working for the causes of hate, not reconciliation.

Although it`s none of your business, I have done, and still do a lot of voluntary work to assist Aboriginal comminities, and I can`t see a one size fits all soultiuon to most of the problems. It needs to be said though, there are far more serious problems than PC bullsh1t can solve, PC even even prevents truth in discussion.

Instead of constantly being a loud-mouth do-gooder twit who always uses the words RACIST first. How about for once trying to prove the below statement and facts are false with some evidence of your own?

I don't use the term loosely, it is quite evident that you are a racist! How much clearer do you need to be you clown.....lol! One has to call things how they are, or am I being politically incorrect?

I mean, look at this silly little argument....Mungo man was not Aboriginal. Such an argument that could have many anomalies! You're thinking is so narrow across all topics you debate buddy! It is quite a sad pattern of blissful ignorance, which is not an excuse for racism either!!

Aborigines were here for eternity compared to us no matter how you look at it. Why would you argue this point....OMG!
