Poll. Germany or USA - Which country has the more advanced technology

If you have a machine gun, but fail to bring the ammo; and get hit on the head with a rock (and then post on PF under the guise of 'Sadistic Savior'), you have poor technology. You failed to achieve your practical purposes— your opponent did.

 

The fact that I make a mistake and forget the ammo does not mean the machine gun is inferior to the rock.

Much of Europe, unlike the U.S is actually seeking fuel efficient technology. Their cars aren't behemoths and get more than 3 miles to the gallon. Germany, and much of Europe is way ahead when it comes to energy conservation. Instead of keeping a water heater in the garage, they heat water as it comes out of the faucet. Inefficient light bulbs are now banned from sale in the EU. It's the minor details, and the progressive attitude which defines the technological advantage Europe has on the U.S.

 

This is a military thread, so how about keeping the references to the topic at hand. If you want to talk about culture, or movies, or coffee makers, then maybe the thread should either be moved or copied in another area.

Seeing as this is in Warfare/Military, I am going to respond to it purely in that way.

When it comes to military technology, there is really nobody that compares to the US. If you can show me another country with a Stealth Bomber and a 2nd Generation Stealth Fighter, then I might consider them.

Then add the other toys.

Show me another nation that has a Guided Missile Cruiser that has shot down a satellite.

Show me another country that has Super Carriers. And not in production, or cancelled during production. Actually completed. I can tell you, there are none. The US on the other hand is working on it's 6th Generation Super Carrier (Gerald Ford Class).

Show me a nation that has a combat tested Missile Defense system. One I might add that Germany itself uses as it's Primary Air Defense missile system and it's only Anti-Missile system the US designed and built PATRIOT. I talk to a lot of Germans on a regular basis, since they all learn how to use the PATRIOT at my base, and the German Air Force Tactical Training Center is a short drive north of here, at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico.

When it comes to most equipment, the two nations are pretty much the same. Their small arms and artillery are almost the same, mostly because they all use the same NATO ammunition.

And their tanks are a pretty even match. The Leopard 2 and the M1A1 are almost the same when it comes to performance, surviveability and effectiveness. Most of the differences between the two comes from the differences in technology (The M1 uses a turbine engine which is quieter, the Leopard 2 uses a conventional diesel engine, which is faster to start). For the most part, and advantages of one design in one area are evened out in advantages the other has in other areas.

There are other nations that have similarly comparable systems to the US, but they normally achieve them in a brute-force manner. Both China and Russia have missile defense systems and other equipment. But both of those nations tend to use low cost and quantity to make up for the lack of technology to make them perform equally. This makes for a lower technological level, but on the battlefield this can counter the higher tech of US equipment if it is employed in the right manner (look at how USSR SAM systems shot down some of the most advanced US aircraft through sheer numbers of missiles shot at each aircraft). This was how both the U-2 and F-117 aircraft were shot down.

 

Cars. German cars kick ass.

 

Yet you are absolutely wrong with the idea that Germany IS NOT ABLE TO BUILD NUKES!! That is so ridiculous.

 

If we look at army tech US has a large edge but in civilian or mentality Germany takes the lead.

Learn the difference between manufacture and design and get back to me.

The Fins are now "owned" by microsoft. And Korean cell phone makers use American OSes...Android or Windows usually.

 

While instant coffee and German-engineered cars are amenities I enjoy as an officer in the military, it has nothing to do with warfare.

 

The thread is about military technology. If a few people want to go off on tangents, that doesnt mean the thread itself is off topic.

 

We've covered this already; Germany is superior. The thread ended there.

 

But if you look back, few of the posts deal with that. It has rapidly become a thread about other things (coffee makers, cell phones, cars), or simply a racist thread (Germans are Superior, Americans are Inferior).

I agree with Governor, this really needs to be moved elsewhere. It left the original concept a long-long time ago, and I do not see it going back there.
