Conspiracy theory. Buy a tin foil hat if those unfounded conspiracies bother you.

That ship has sailed for 2020. Virginia's General Assembly has incredibly short sessions.

Please cite the source that says a poll tax is anything other than:

    poll tax
    /ˈpōl ˌtaks/

    noun
noun: poll tax; plural noun: poll taxes
    1. a tax levied on every adult, without reference to income or resources.
"the council tax replaces the poll tax"

Only two of those polls give Tuberville a close win, look at all the undecideds.

Well, I wish Jones luck... I didn't know anything about him when he beat Cowboy Roy, but he represents well when he's on TV...

I suspect he's toast however.. Better not to get anybody's hopes up...

This is a race I am watching however.... saw this Dr. Gross guy on Morning Joe the other day... excellent appearance... running as an Independent who will caucus with the D's might work well in goofy Alaska (Like King in Maine)

    SNIP
Recent results from a Public Policy Polling survey indicate a neck and neck race in Alaska’s US Senate election. According to the poll, 43% of Alaska voters plan to vote for Republican incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan and 43% plan to vote for independent Al Gross, who has the backing of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. Fourteen percent of respondents said they were unsure.

The poll surveyed 638 Alaska voters at the end of August on a series of questions related to the Senate race. Of those surveyed, 49% voted for President Donald Trump in the 2016 Presidential election, 35% voted for Hillary Clinton, and 16% voted for someone else or did not vote. Thirty-four percent of respondents were Republican, 23% were Democrat, and 43% identified as independent.

Seventy-five percent of Trump voters and 5% of Clinton voters said they planned to vote for Sullivan. That dynamic flipped for Gross who took in 10% of Trump voters and 89% of Clinton voters. Of those who voted for someone else or did not vote, 45% plan to vote for Gross and 26% plan to vote for Sullivan.

If intent to influence voting can be proven then good, Bloomberg deserves to get burned.

I do not believe that any felon should be handed back full rights of citizenship upon completion of sentence. Imprisonment is punishment, it is not reform. Only the felon can create reform within his or her self.

The law everywhere should (but does not!) require a felon to prove to a judge that restoration of full rights is warranted. Based upon demonstrated reform of character.

Anything less is lunacy. Of which our Republic enjoys a wealth of.

After his vote to impeach and his vote against Kavanaugh he may well be but then a lot of Tuberville support is a hold your nose. I voted for Sessions in the primary but of course will vote for Tuberville. I wrote Jones twice about the two votes I just mentioned warning him that he was cutting his own throat bowing to New York Schumer instead of the voters of Alabama and both times got phoney canned letters trying to justify his votes.

Another close one why don't the Democrats have their own candidate if this guy is running on caucusing with them?

Dunno.... perhaps they feel Gross is better and more electable than anything they could come up with in Alaska?

6'8" bear-killing, orthopedic surgeon, lifetime Alaskans don't grow on trees up there (I'm pretty sure)..

I'd love it if all 100 Senators were truly Independents.... you'd likely be supporting President Pence during this election if they were...

Republicans absolutely did after 2/3 of the Florida electorate voted to allow them the right to vote. REPUBLICANS are the ones who used their indebted status to keep them from voting.

See, the PEOPLE of Florida say they should have the right to vote. But republicans dont like that.......more voters would hurt them. So they do everything they can to suppress the vote

A poll tax is a tax designed to keep someone from voting. Originally it was a tax to that was affordable by the rich, but not by the poor, those keeping them from voting. That is EXACTLY what this is. Make them pay a fine to the government is akin to a tax.

The fact that it has to be spelled out is astounding to me.

Fines are not levied from the court to keep people from voting. That has never been the intent of fines.

When the Florida legislature doesn't like what the citizens of Florida voted for, they enact the law in such a way that it goes against the people's wishes.

When we voted to make medical marijuana legal, the legislature didn't like it. They made the criteria so harsh, that only 10 people or so qualified for it. That is not what the residents had in mind.

Then why do the people of Florida keep voting for those folks? Because they do what they don't want them to do? More "blah blah blah|" nonsense that has nothing to do with the thread. That is two minutes I will never get back.

    Country versus city.

The popular vote determines if an amendment passes. There are more people in the cities than the rural areas.

That IS the intent here. That’s why the republicans in Florida legislated this, and fought all the way to the SC to keep them from voting.
