Rep. Mike Johnson picked as new GOP speaker nominee

House Republicans have selected Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana to be their next nominee to be House speaker. The chamber has been mired in chaos after Kevin McCarthy’s ouster this month, with the party’s first three speaker nominees failing to gain enough support to secure the gavel.

    Trump already weighed in

"Another wild card in the speaker's race is Trump, who knifed Emmer on Tuesday after he won the nomination."

What are you talking about? He’s a Trump ally. You generally have no idea what you’re talking about.

    Who is Rep. Mike Johnson?

According to Social Media Strategist Joey Mannarino, Mike Johnson boasts a Liberty Score of 74%. A representative from Louisiana, Johnson has been a member of Congress since 2017 and has a generally strong voting record.

He played a key role in initiating the Texas Amicus Brief in 2020 and voted against the certification of the 2020 election results, which he viewed as fraudulent.

A strong advocate for national security, Johnson backed Trump’s travel ban on countries considered to be hotbeds of terrorism. He also served on Trump’s legal defense team during both the 2019 and 2020 Senate impeachment trials.

One floor vote, maybe. This has turned into a battle between three Republican House factions, the MAGA Republicans, the non-MAGA Republicans and those republicans who want McCarthy back as speaker. Time will tell.

Yes he will. He’s got my bet for the winner out of everyone who has come up so far.

He’s a hard line conservative that the Gaetz and Green types love and he voted against certifying the election and is a Trump ally. And he’s an incredibly nice guy so the RINOs will vote for him too because they won’t be able to find a legitimate reason to vote against him.

I think he will be the next speaker.

And might I add he’s extremely intelligent and cerebral. Actually one of my fav members of congress.

Yes. I don't think we are on the same side of the aisle, but this guy will please MAGA (a minority of the republican congress) and the traditional republicans are just going to cave. Must say this for the Gaetz Clan: they certainly parlayed their small minority into a lot of power.

The odds are stacked against Johnson.

The MAGAs are sinking the GOP and the moderates - those you call RINOs - will vote against a candidate loved by Trump because they don't want to be punished by their constituents.

I doubt there will be an elected speaker between now and the election.

Nah the rino’s aren’t stupid. They may be politically and morally spineless but they’re not stupid.

Them refusing any speaker will lose them FAR more votes from the conservatives and the trump supporters than they will lose from their liberal and independent constituents if they vote for one.

If moderates were spineless, Jim Jordan would be speaker today.

This is how America works. Unlike the popular vote which is mob rule America's system gives a strong voice to the minority groups.

Nah they don’t have a problem standing against their own party. But they’re terrified of standing against the left for fear of being labeled a “white supremacist” or at best an extremist Republican.

Both of those reasons are why we hate the…. But especially the latter.

Doesn't really matter which caretaker Speaker gets elected. It only matters if the same rule exists that he or she can be removed starting with a single person making the request the SECOND they speak to a Democrat.

But Congrats to Johnson, he apparently kept the nomination overnight...

With Trump, MTG and all the other Freedom Caucus crazies, he's destroying the GOP.

    Much to my delight.

I hope you are right, but I don’t have as much faith as you do in so called ‘moderate”. But I hope you are right. The country can’t have trump a$$ Kisser as speaker.

if America has any chance of eradicate Trumpsim , 10-20 Moderate GOP needs to stand up. But after last 7 years, I don’t think America has 20 moderate republicans.

the 20 who voted against Jim J , many of them don't have the spine to stand up to every MAGA.
