nah, no one owes you or anyone else a thing. Expect in one hand while asking for another entitlement with the other.

I agree Esau. You should find a lower level of intellect to debate with. 350,000 white people died so that black slaves would be set free. What are blacks willing to pay for the 350,000 deaths for their freedom?

You cannot present evidence that anyones ancestors of any heritage contributed to hypogthetical institutionalized racism.

This is why social justice is the opposite of justice. No one is responsible for the acts of others. Only for their own actions

Actually, the poverty rate was better for Blacks than Whites until the Democrat Party figured out how to rope them into ghettos and through fear mongering, paid blacks for their votes. Until then, Blacks developed their own economy system of hard work and it paid off for them. For 70-100 years now, the Democrat Party has re-instituted a form of slavery called Black welfare.

The 350,000 I'm referring to are those who fought with the North under Abraham Lincoln to set black slaves free. Those 350,000 were not slave owners. There were a total of 700,000 white people who died in the civil war. Are you getting it yet? Do their relatives today get reparations from Blacks? So far, the only thing I've seen is demonstrating in the streets of Democrat run cities destroying their own businesses.

What are you talking about? The only whites (and blacks) enslaving Blacks today are Democrat politicians. You and your white privilege crap is just that, crap. No such thing. There are millions of poor white people. What you are is a Victocrat. Instead of getting up and making something of yourself like so many blacks have you expect others to give you what you aren't willing to work for. Grow up.

I agree that DIRECT PAYMENTS are a counterproductive step, exacerbating racist attitudes & doing nothing to address the results of historic, systemic racism, or current biases against our black citizens. But the NC resolution which the OP quotes, & which she supports, does not mention individual pay-outs. So this addresses all your legitimate concerns over post-generational punishment/retribution, & neuters the seminal potential of this move to open up the floodgates to all others with any complaints.
You, quite rightly, note that there have been programs, in the past, which have attempted to address some of these problems. Obviously, though, their success has been far from complete. So, perhaps part of your objection to this idea is a difference in perspective over whether or not it's still worth attempting to correct any of the vast disparities which are clearly related to racism, or if it's time to just throw in the towel. Since you express an admiration for the late Dr King, I will remind you that something he most decidedly was not, was a quitter.

While racism is something that any open-eyed observer understands is not going away any time soon (if ever), that does not mean it cannot, or that it should not, be countered-weighted, especially as it applies to GOVERNMENTAL RACISM, including that which has been shown beyond doubt to exist in our criminal justice system, & which did exist, in our Federal Bank exerting influence over housing loans, i.e., discouraging private banks from issuing loans to black people who wished to buy homes in predominently white neighborhoods. While this practice of RED-LINING has ended, it's long-enduring repercussions cannot be denied.

It is here, in the present, that seems to be the focus of this NC resolution, & that is where I find to be the proper, & pragmatic, purview of so-called, "reparations."
As to the hoped-for result, I would contend that when our citizens fail to achieve their full potential, it has a negative affect on the nation as a whole. While no one can, or should, be forced, to employ all their abilities, nor should there be unnecessary bars erected against peoples' achieving their ambitions.

This all starts with EDUCATION. Since the lion's share of educational funding comes from LOCAL PROPERTY TAXES, & because black Americans have been, per government policy, funnelled into, "black," areas with lower real estate values, that directly manifests in the schools of those areas, which then help to keep home values suppressed. In these areas, of course, it is more difficult not only to run a business, but to get a loan to start a business. Hence, there are fewer economic opportunities available in the immediate proximity of these populations. This causes there to be a higher poverty rate-- no surprise-- which leads to a higher crime rate, a known result of poverty, not of racial proclivity, & that further contributes to discourage business investment, & suppress home values.

If, instead of the piecemeal application of remedial policies that have been tried in the past, a comprehensive strategy were to be employed that could break this cycle of poverty & underachievement, I cannot see how that would not be a boon for us all. Having a sub-standard educational system, in any part of our country, I can't think of why any American would wish to continue.

From the NC resolution, I would expect their proposals to be in line with practices that have been used to, for example, improve overall education statewide (additional funding, teacher recruitment, & support for promising new approaches), and to encourage revitalization, & business development efforts, in decaying parts of cities (tax credits; low-interest loans). Add to these a college scholarship program, combined w/ criminal justice reform-- which is patently warranted-- and I don't know how one could be sure of themselves, in predicting utter failure. Nor can I understand why one would object to extending benefits to black home owners & entrepreneurs which have long benefitted big business concerns. And the rationale is the same: in the long-run, these helping hands would be expected to not just raise the standard of living for many black people, but increase the tax base for all of us. In one last reiteration of this theme, making non-criminal options for success more attainable to a sizable segment of our society, would benefit America & its citizenry, writ large.

In 1965 before the "war on poverty" the Black poverty rate was 65% and for Whites 14% per US census. You must be listening to right-wing propaganda.

There is no doubt that white incomes were higher than black incomes. Although, before the 1960's blacks often had more working than whites. The black communities built their own economic systems and entrepreneur businesses. They didn't rely on the white man to pay them and survive. So, you also must take inconsideration what it meant to be poor as well since a higher number of blacks worked in the 1940's and 1950's. When the white Democrat bigoted Party gained power in the larger cities, they began to also push the welfare system onto the black communities giving them free stuff. This, according to black authors, created the victocrat mentality of demanding government fill in the income gap. Which the Democrats gladly did for return of votes from the black communities. This created the black ghettos. They also made sure drugs and alcohol was pushed in those areas as well. Destroying the young people's opportunity to get educated and get out of the ghettos. You remember the Democrat leaders back then. Robert KKK Byrd and his pal Joe Biden. Remember the bills in Congress to stop blacks from mingling with white kids in schools. Biden's famous statement that he didn't want his kids mingling with the jungle boys. Remember that? Maybe not if you only watch CNN and MSNBC.

Fast forward to 2016 where black incomes didn't grow under their messiah Obama-Biden. Neither did their wealth when you compare to whites. Yet, in 3 years, Trump was able to increase the black families incomes by $6,000 and cut the wealth gap in half. He did that by bringing good paying jobs back to the U.S. by lowering corporate taxes and regulations for businesses. At the same time, Trump assisted black colleges and education growing by leaps and bounds and YOU KNOW THIS! He began changing the criminal justice system to decrease the number of blacks incarcerated. And on and on and on. Yet, you didn't support, along with many other non-educated blacks, about what Trump really did for them. Instead, you taught them to get their information from far left websites and national media that hid these facts.

So, please spare me the tears and victimizing of your own people. There is no other reason to give people that can't recognize what the Democrat Machine has done and continues to do to blacks in the U.S. It's just a different type of slavery but still in chains by Joe Biden and his cronies.

All that war on poverty did for blacks is enslave them in greater welfare poverty, drugs and crime. Exactly what those racist Democrat in the 1960's wanted to do. Act like they were helping them but in reality just enslaving them so in order not to lose the free welfare they have to vote for those Democrats. Same today except they have their own Uncle Tom's in power over them doing the exact same thing to them.
