This is quite true. A very important point, too.

Lol…age has little to do with mental maturity.
Look at trump and his puerile bullshit and look at how many adults fall for trump’s big lie and then prattle on like spoiled brats about lost elections not being their fault.

Lol…what disingenuous nonsense wrapped up in pseudoscientific jargon.
How are you people enjoying the long term consequences of plumping for a malignant narcissist like trump, who now refuses to let go of your shorthairs, just for a chance to ‘own the libs’?

I was careful not to paint with a broad brush. Note my use of the word "many". In any case the young are not alone in caving in for free stuff. Politics is driven by handouts. Everyone likes free stuff.

I've witnessed in my lifetime a shift from people working hard for what they want to a generation that thinks they are entitled and believe it's the government's responsibility to give it to them. They say the stimulus checks are a factor in why many people didn't go back to work. Now you have employees trying to dictate to their employer where and when they will work. Musk is having none of that nonsense and is one of the reasons he's being criticized. He's dealing with a group that believe they are entitled. But he's not the only one dealing with this attitude.

Am I being too critical or making assumptions about many of today's youths? Perhaps, but I'm part of the John Kennedy generation that was told " Ask not what your country can do for you. No, ask what you can do for your country." I don't see that spirit in today's youth. But to be fair - many in the older generation no longer have it either. Maybe politicians have stolen that attitude because of their divisions among themselves. They would rather see the country burn then compromise.

If that had been your point, all along, this certainly was not clear, in the first place. Secondly, you took an overly laborious route, to get there; why could you not have stated instead, "but none of those conservatives are in Congress, are they?" Note, that this single, short sentence, unambiguously makes your point, without sending anyone on a useless errand, to collect names for you, which you don't even really care about (other than that they are not the names of sitting Congresspersons). So why not just cut to the chase? It is therefore comical, that you blame me, for actually answering your question, without knowing your, unstated, ulterior motive. Please supply decoder rings, with your future questions.

Thirdly, though, is your weak point. Because it would seem you are trying to say that Republican Congresspersons, are not influenced by the talking points that are popular among Conservatives. My impression, is that quite the contrary, is true. I am not predicting that Republicans, necessarily, will take this up, but you have no basis for saying it is beyond the realm of possibility, that they may. And I do not recall the OP stating that Republicans even would change this law; so it seems you are faulting the thread creator, for not supplying proof, of your own, faulty assumption. Does anyone else see a pattern developing, here?

I think the main point of the OP, which is supported by the articles I cited, is that the Conservative response to losing elections, is less likely, to be a resolve to listen to voters, and reformulate the Republican message, approach, and priorities, and more instinctively an attempt just to suppress the votes of those with views that differ from their own.

Why not? They can't buy beer at the grocery store either. I would require a person of any age to pass a competency test prior to being allowed to vote. We have a truly uninformed electorate in America. It votes for words and appearances, not competence.

Mental maturity and wisdom are not a product of chronological age, but of the experience gained in learning to solve you own problems and be responsible for yourself. Some people have a head start because they grew up in an environment where that was expected, and some are so far behind it they will never get there. Figure out a way to establish a standard of maturity as a voter qualification, and you will have a very positive effect- but of course, it will be rejected because we have already given power to the young.... and then failed to teach them how to grow up.

Every time a Muslim youth votes Bridget Gabriel gets heartburn.

All Republicans need to do from now on is ask youths who would be voting Republican not to vote until they're 21.
They obviously object to votes cast by young people who they claim are too immature to make credible decisions.
Their desperation going after young voters amplifies just how weak and pathetic they are being too afraid of cleaning house of their dangerous conspiracy Trumpers.

What I said was "Who specifically has suggested raising the voting age to 21?". There is absolutely NOTHING "laborious" about that route. In fact that it about as concise as is possible

Nothing more, and nothing less. That was literally the sum total of my response before you weighed by calling that a ridiculous question. Since that time, the sum total of this conversation is me defending against your assertion that has been easily shot down that it was a ridiculous question.

I have been so successful in fact at shooting down that notion, that now you have abandoned the "ridiculous question" mantra, and have switched over to the "laborious route" defense, which will just as easily be shot down.

You see, when I asked that question, I wanted him to say whom it was pushing that notion, and while I did not know at that point, I suspected that it was nobody of consequence. Since he did not initially say who it was, I could not give that response UNTIL he said who it was, so clearly I needed his response before moving forward. He actually never gave that response, but when you did, I said...

"You are blathering on about how you think my question was "ridiculous" while at the same time, your answers are illustrating EXACTLY what I set out to illustrate by asking that question. This is not a serious proposal that is going to be seriously debated in the legislature. This is little more than the Daily Beast and the New Republic trying to stir sh*t for the express purpose of stirring sh*t. To call it much ado about nothing is an understatement.

Mission accomplished. Thank you for your assistance, albeit with a side of misplaced ire."

To me, that is not a laborious means of getting that point across. I actually killed 2 birds with one stone. I shot down your "ridiculous question" concept AND I conveyed my original intention which was to point out that the people pushing this notion are of no consequence in terms of this actually being a legislative debate.

I cannot imagine how a person could have actually been any more concise in getting the original point across as well as shooting down your ridiculous question assertion. The only way this could have been more concise is if he had actually answered, rather than you answering in the midst of an accusation that the question was ridiculous which clearly lengthened the discussion significantly. If you had just said who it was, we would have skipped that step and it would have only required the one sentence to shoot it down. If brevity is truly your goal, then perhaps you should keep the personal attacks out of the equation?

Once again, mission accomplished. Your position never made much sense, it did not take much effort to easily refute, and I CERTAINLY did not take a laborious route in order to get there. The only thing laborious has been your misplaced attempt to make this about me rather than the silly notion in the OP that really is much ado about nothing because this is not a REAL debate legitimately being had in the halls of Congress.

I figured I would address this separately as it is a separate topic from your personal attacks directed at me.

Pointing to the words of a few unknown radio hosts and the like, and even a few people on a chat board does not qualify as "talking points". Even if there were some state representative somewhere pushing such a thing it still would not go anywhere. This is not going to happen if for no other reason than it would be a gigantic political loser. Neither political party pushes legislation that they know is going to be a gigantic political loser with zero chance of passage and they would look horrible in the process. On top of that, this would require a political amendment to overturn the 26th. There is NOT going to be a movement for a new political amendment stopping 18-year-olds from voting. Such a suggestion is downright silly. It is NOT going to happen.

There is no way that you can make people register for the draft at 18 but then not give them the right to vote. It just would not happen. No way. No how. For anyone that has a modicum of common sense that also understands the political landscape, such a notion would have literally zero chance of passing, and the people pushing it would look very bad in the process. For this reason, this issue ( in terms of actually happening) is not real. It is FAKE NEWS. If you want to dig into the deep recesses of beliefs amongst supporters of both sides, you will find all kinds of short-sighted desires that are not grounded in reality. This does not make their obscure, short-sighted desires newsworthy.

It is nothing more than the Daily Beast stirring up sh*t for the express purpose of stirring up sh*t. They know there will be plenty of dupes willing to take the bait. Clearly, they hooked you.

There is a sucker born every minute.

Some Republicans don't want 18 yr olds voting but come hell or high water want that same 18 yr old to be able to buy an AR15.

They can stand outside a voting venue with their AR15 but can't vote inside.

notice you use the word "it", for the cells that may someday become a baby, sperm and a egg may someday become a baby, do not see it as killing "it" if a women has a period with a fertilized egg without having a baby either

Since you already agreed it is a baby....
    It
    /it/
    pronoun

    1.
used to refer to a thing previously mentioned or easily identified:
"a room with two beds in it"
    2.
    used to identify a person:
    "it's me"

Try again at what age should the it be allowed to kill the baby?

Dude the voting age in this country was 21 for most of this country's history. The average high school senior doesn't understand much beyond the super his mom sets in front of him. Someone whose future us generally a mystery has no business voting for the people who will chart that if the country.

Yes, and by a Constitutional amendment, it was lowered to 18. Now the GOP wants to take that right away because the young ones came out in droves and voted overwhelmingly Democratic, mostly for social issues. So, the GOP is now using an argument of taking people right's away in order to keep power at any and all costs. Good luck with that argument. Even Single mothers living in Suburbia will not vote for you if the party wants to go this route.

And the fact that they would vote Democrat is why it was lowered to 18 in the first place. And the fact that they keep voting for the people destroying their future is sufficient reason to think they have the maturity to make rational decisions.

Just buy gen zs vote by suggesting free education or x box live accounts and call it the day.

Of course never follow through with either but just add them to the platform.

    Easy peezy
