I dont think Douglass really thought he could beat Holyfield. He knew Tyson was a one shot.

People dont understand just how good of a boxer young Tyson was. We as an aggressive counter puncher like GGG is today. He didn't just run in head first and start throwing. Once he started doing that is when we started losing.

What? You do realize that RR has the best arm bar submission hold in the UFC? And if the other fighter once in that, does not give up, the arm gets dislocated, right? Got absolutely nothing to do with a class act. LOL. It's an important tool in RR's arsenal.

RR will not fight the next fight with Holmes as she did this last one. She will rely upon her superior judo skills, while not trying to go fist to fist with Holmes. RR finally met a striker and kicker, and wanted to bum rush her, and didn't have the striking skills to hang with her. Holmes looked stellar taking on RR, and RR got taught an important lesson. And what could be better for women's MMA? This was a huge fight in pay per view, and the next one will be even larger. This is the best thing to happen to the revenue for the UFC, with RR losing as she did. You could not have scripted it better.

I of course pull for RR. Holmes had a six pack, and when I see one of those on a female, I think male hormones.. For she could have used them, to build up muscle, and then come off of them in time to have it out of the system. How many non steroid using females have 6 packs?

He at LEAST though could have tried. He might as well not shown up for Holified the fact he got fat and out of shape after that which is the same that happened to Rousy. Not quite as bad is the only difference, she just got out of shape a little, not fat like Douglass got.

Get real, she doesn't have the best anything in the UFC, because men also compete in it.

You said RR would break her arm.

Wrong. Bones don't get broken by the mere refusal to tap.

So how may other girl's arms has she broken in UFC fights?

Damned if I know, and damned if I care.

I don't know about the striking aspect, but Holms did appear stronger. She was a bull.

Same mistake made by the arrogant Brock Lesnar against Cain Velazquez. He got pummeled for doing so.

these athletes sometimes get sucked into the "make it entertaining" and pay a heavy price.

When Cael Sonnen had Anderson Silva dead to rights by taking him down over and over and controlling Silva all match, had all 5 rounds won, and the crowd started getting restless and booing because it was a boring win. So Sonnen starts trying to finish Silva, and got caught with 30 seconds left and tapped

    Brock lesnar cain Velazquez

Ronda Rousey getting talked out of her strengths, hip tosses and ground submissions, because she wants to prove she can do it all, and she got sucked in to someone else's strengths.

If I'm fighting, and I'm the champ... I make them beat me at my strengths. A champ should never get sucked into another fighter's game strengths just for the sake of entertainment.

I would give no UFC fighter a chance against a young Tyson, he would knock their head off, which is why a UFC fighter wouldn't let Tyson hit them... Tyson was also pretty "bulky" for his size so I don't see him being taken down without getting off a punch...

You can bet a punch from a young Tyson without boxing gloves will do some serious damage...

Obviously today he would get his ass kicked, but a prime Tyson against a UFC fighter - I go with Tyson... Tyson could hit a guy once and they're done, how often do UFC fighters NOT get punched in the face?

    LOL.

A guy like Cain would have put a prime Tyson, Ali or any other boxer in their prime on their back within seconds. That one trick pony boxing crap died out a long time ago in MMA for a reason.

    I agree...

but if an MMA fighter chose to slug it out with Tyson, Tyson would win. That's the thing, fight to your strengths.... if you are fighting a superior striker... you take him down. Rousey chose to stand with a superior striker and you see the result.

The only way a fighter like Tyson could have survived in an MMA ring would be to develop a good take down defense to prevent going to the mat, so he could keep his opponent standing, where Tyson would be superior. Holly Holms did that. Holms doesn't have to be a great ground person.... she just hasd to know enough to prevent Rousey from getting her there.

Well sure. Should anyone have decided to engage Tyson in a boxing match during his younger years they would have been in trouble.

After watching the fight several times now, Ronda certainly did try taking Holly to the ground on multiple occasions. I'm sure after that first minute or two after getting tagged numerous times and having her lip split and teeth loosened up, it was probably the only thing on her mind. Unfortunately for Ronda, someone who is constantly backing up and circling away in effect completely neutralizes any chance to clinch.

that's why I roll my eyes when people say "this boxer would beat this MMAer" not if the MMA'er is smart he won't. Even the best hands guy in MMA can't compete with mediocre boxers if all they do is box..... so if you are fighting MMA rules... to stand toe-to-toe with a slugger is just stupid.

The Mayweather approach to fighting is a legit form of making sure your opponent fights your fight. People may hate that style, but that style has put the belt on Holmes, and it made Mayweather the champ for 20 years, undefeated.

I don't think this is the case. She just met an opponent who was better than her. Holly Holm is not just any fighter. She is extraordinary. She came to MMA from boxing where she defended her world champion title 18 times, and since then she never lost a fight.

And from my personal experience I can tell that when you do something it is really usefull to take some rest from time to time.

I love both sports, boxing and MMA, but in a MMA fight a pure boxer should be in serious trouble. The same can be said of a MMA fighter in a boxing ring. They're just different sports with some similarities.

I would have loved to have seen a guy like Tyson fight some of the better kick boxers of his era though in a kickboxing match. Tyson vs Ernesto Hoost of Jerome Lebanner would have been awesome to see.

And yes, people may hate Mayweathers style but its unbelievably effective.

    agreed....

Whenever people say Floyd Mayweather would get killed in an MMA ring.... I roll my eyes because even the best MMA fighter will lose to Mayweather in a boxing ring.

Without a doubt. Put Conor McGregor in a boxing ring with Floyd and we'd see an absolute ass whipping.

it's why when I hear of challenges by MMA to Boxing.... I think it should be a two sport fight.... one boxing, one MMA.

Holly Holm DESTROYED by Miesha Tate:

Miesha sent her off to Dream Land!

So many here gloated over the fact that Rousey was defeated so they should be equally glad to see the table turned around just a bit. Let the gloating begin ....

By the way, MgGregor was DESTROYED by Diaz:

A victory for the good American over the boastful European. :flagus: :flagus: :flagus:

the only difference between holms and mcGreggor..... holms didn't tap....

There were 2 things about the entire night proven,

    1. is Dana is still behind the Rousey train.... because Rousey gets the next title shot against Tate.

Why isn't it a rematch between Holms and Rousey for the #1 contender spot, and the winner gets Tate?

Is it because White insists on shoving RR down our throats as soon as possible, again? or is it punishing Holms for biting the hand that feeds her since RR is a big draw.....

    2. Maybe RR should have worked her ground game against Holms, instead of trying to box her. RR was responding to fans and her wanting to prove that she could stand toe to toe, too. And we see where that got her.

    McGreggor fight notes....

Either way, McGreggor fight is him stepping up to a higher weight. It was supposed to be champ vs Champ, but the heavier champ got hurt and Diaz picked up the fight with 12 days notice. Diaz isn't even in the title picture of his weight class, so I can imagine what the champ would have done to McGreggor.

Weight classes are important. Either way, glad he got some humble pie.... but he's no worse for the wear at this point over the loss. He's still the champ.

another slight difference - McGreggor made some reference to Diaz's ethnicity and claimed this background made him a better fight ~ the outcome proved that claim to be a bit inaccurate ;)
