The thought about same sex "marriage" is very simple. Marriage, from the government perspective is a set of benefits that government provides to heterosexual couples. All we have to do is to ask ourselves, what is the purpose of providing benefits to heterosexual couple? The answer is obvious, we as a society provide benefits to heterosexual couples in exchange of numerous laws and regulations that we impose on man and woman. since relationship between man and woman requires government involvement it is not a private matter, if it is not private matter the society is obligated to provide benefits. On the other hand, homosexuality is a STRICTLY private activity, and we as a society has nothing to do with it, there is no need to regulate gay sex whatsoever. I find it hard to believe that 18 months after Obergefell, and more than a dozen years since same sex marriage came to the first states, people are still blathering and bleating about it. The courts have been clear that an appeal to tradition-which is what you're doing here- is not sufficient to deny rights to a group. The states have failed miserably at all levels of litigation to come up with a compelling state interest or even a rational basis for the laws restricting marriage to a man and a woman. Deal with it. My advise to you is, since you feel this way-DO NOT under any circumstances- go and get gay married. Civil unions are not equal to marriage.
