There should be a compromise providing some money for border security that would get 60 votes in the Senate!

BZZZZZZ... sorry, you didn't say the magic word.....

Of course the Senate (and House) would vote funds for border security, but that's not how the GOP plan was structured...

While either is unlikely, I think it's more possible that T's support the D bill to do the simple govt opening vs the other way.

Trump can still claim victory as he can say his stupid Senate opened government without his full support and he's still fighting for the American people (yadda yadda)...

The Senate NEEDS to send something to Trumps desk this week.

I wrote our Senator Doug Jones expressing that the citizens of Alabama support the additional money for the barriers and he is already in hot water over the Kavanaugh vote so he had better consider his future as a Senator. Then I heard on the radio he is one of the Democrat Senators the Republicans have targeted. That along with the two stories I cited above................

Much like Trump, she has a simple pre-requisite before real negotiations can begin.

    Pelosi - Open Government
    Trump - 5.7 B for a wall

Which do you think could garner more support in the Senate??

The Senate is voting on Thursday....will the House take up the bill they pass is the question?

I doubt it...the Dems want to continue the shut down...heck they voted again the GOP's efforts to at least pay the Federal employees...https://thehill.com/homenews/house/...easure-to-pay-workers-but-not-open-government

Not sure how YOU know how "the citizens" of non-border Alabama feel about that, but good for you to be involved in the process.

I have to suspect Dougie knows he is likely a dead man walking in 2 years anyway (and certainly not for the O'Kavanaugh vote), so he is likely to do the right thing and not support the GOP proposal. But Dougie has the 2nd worst (or best, depending on your viewpoint) Trump voting record for a D Senator, so I suppose he's your best shot for a defection vote.

You may have Dougie on the ropes, but there are a few more GOP'ers who also have ropes attached in 2020... Not 13, but more...

The one the Senate passes...if the Senate passes it, it has to go to the House before it goes to the President.

Given Nancy's willingness to allow the Federal employees to go without pay...I doubt she does.

Watched an intv with an immigration atty yesterday... seems the Dems are quickly losing support with that group after turning down the presidents generous offer to extend DACA. Theyre digging quite a hole for themselves.

The Dems have turned their backs on the Dreamers. The only person working to actual give them protect via a law, is the President.

LOL at your 2020 ticket... I think a more likely winning ticket will be Biden/Klobuchar.... or vice versa...

Hopefully some will do the moral and correct thing....and put their country over their party. Although I know it's hard for them to stand up to the Fascist leadership in the DNC

I still believe it's more likely that the D proposal gets more defection votes than the T proposal, but neither will pass...

The new offer from the Dems makes zero sense...they offered the $5 billion but won't even let Homeland Security fix the fences that the Dems voted for and put up in 2006. They are just being silly now.

Link to that D proposal.... Not what most sources are reporting...

    SNIP
Separately, the GOP-controlled Senate will vote Thursday afternoon on a Democratic short-term spending bill that excludes border wall funding and would reopen the government until Feb. 8. It would also include funding to respond to natural disasters. If all Democrats voted in favor of this measure, 13 Republicans would need to back it for it to move on to a final vote.

I'm sure he probably does, but it's a 180 reversal of his previous statements about what he will bring to the floor..... Agree?

Oh the Kavanaugh vote certainly hurt any chances of his getting reelected and this one will bury him. In fact if he were to defect and tell Schumer to take a hike and switch parties, as Richard Shelby did many years ago, he probably would win reelection. So if he does the right thing and support the measly wall funding he at least would have his nose above water.

It's what the Democrats who HAVE been willing to talk told his staff they were looking for.

How will it be a GOP win if neither bill passes? You guys are so confusing....

"He brings to the floor what he knows will pass" is not his job. And by the definition of this thread, it's likely he's bringing 2 bills to the floor, neither of which will pass..

    Thoughts?
