Catholics are not big on the ultimate importance of the Bible. Bible thumping is a Protestant thing as is this business about a personal relationship with Jesus. You can be a good Christian even if you are illiterate.
I would defend you as I defend those who are actually being persecuted today. I won't, however, waste energy worrying about something that isn't actually happening. Christians are not being persecuted in America. Being prevented from or called out for attempting to harass or shame others for not conforming to your religious views is not persecution. When "they" actually call for it or attempt it, I'll be there for you and yours. Until then, however, there is actual oppression and persecution happening here that needs to be dealt with. I don't have time or patience for God's Not Dead delusions of victimization.
The Catholic Church didn't want the peasants to read the Word for themselves. They wanted them dependent on the Church. I don't think Christ sacrificed Himself to end one corrupt priesthood just to saddle us with another.
I was speaking to your own signature line. What does it have to do with how you reply to at least the poster i was interceding on behalf of?
Spooky seems the very quintessence of conservative "Christianity" where the main purpose of the religion is to justify their hatred of anyone who isn't them, to persecute the poor and sick and deny aid to the needy. It's about as far from real Christianity as you can get.
Yeah, you are right, just have to remember those that were persecuted by empires, until it gets as bad a Roman times, we would just be whining.
Right...so again I'll ask...what does it have to do with pointing out that someone has a persecution complex?
The peasants couldn't read the Word for themselves, being illiterate. And I always thought Christ died to save us from our sins, not from priests. That is quite a novel soteriology.
Did i mention this might be the dumbest thing I have read all week? Maybe all month so far even. Congrats.
And isnt that exactly how Jesus said you would spend your life? "and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved." Why whine about it if jesus told you to expect exactly this?
Acceptable standards for labeling mendacities are not dependent on arbitrarily determinations by biased partisans, but by universally acceptable, indisputable proof. There are many closed minded individuals on this forum who are reality-challenged. The "fake media" representing BOTH parties thrive on the patronage of such individuals. An opinion conflicting with your own does not constitute a lie, and dislike for an individual does not make him a liar. Unfortunately, the vast majority of politicians DO lie, mostly in making promises that they are not sure they can keep; but being habitual liars is an unacceptable trait that invariably is exposed, leading to their eventual downfalls.
You can emulate Christian attitudes and do good works, but being a Christian necessarily involves a relationship with Jesus that can only be obtained through knowledge contained ONLY in the Bible, whether you can read or whether that has been taught to you.
I don't think that she is USING Christianity to justify her political beliefs, but she is not doing a very good job of demonstrating that her religion is compatible with her political ideology. I only hope that she is open-minded enough to continue searching for answers.
Step away from the computer and lock up your copy of "50 shades of Gray". Seriously though, Christians arent persecuted in this country. Disliked yes, for reasons that are valid and also because of typical bigotry. True persecution means causing real harm or taking away the freedom to worship as we choose. In the mid east...real persecution does happen.
