You are correct. It was a scheme, passed by voters with a light turnout, pushed by unions who rolled out the vote.

It addressed the gerrymandering problem and eliminated it as an issue. No candidate from a party other than Democrats has much of a chance.

It's just one in many crimes the left has used here in California to fatally wound the state.

I don't know if you could say "mainly" work for republicans but yes, Chamber of Commerce types, who talk a good game but who love the cheap labor, are a big, big problem.

Both parties have their reasons. Democrats love a big potential voting block (one that can replace blacks) and republicans love the cheap labor.

I'm not an economist but I don't see how keeping a little bit more of your own money causes our debt to rise. Seems to me people with more money buy more things and pump more dollars into the economy which in turn employs more people.

Under JFK that was just common sense and tax cuts were seen as good things. Then I think the left brain washed gullible people into believing you were somehow robbing the government if you spent your money yourself (as if we owe them all our money). I can't say it probably never occurred to them to actually spend a bit less because Big Government is like a giant blood sucking leech that always demands more and more and more and they (the left) know that without their scare tactics people would start to question the need

Are there mountain Democrats? Certainly there are. I never found out how Dad voted but Mom was clear she voted for Democrats and nothing else. If dad voted for any republican, he would not tell her. Good thing about Dad is he hardly spoke of politics. I worked for him and around him for 9 years and don't recall him involved in politics. When they retired to live in the mountains, I doubt he talked to others about politics. As isolated as Mom was, she would talk to family.
