He came in again last night and bought some items. I survived another close near death encounter! But then again I didn't reach for his gun or try to punch him in the face or anything !
Do officers in other countries just let suspects go if they're being non-cooperative and have a big strong body size? What is the officer supposed to do if the suspect just constantly tries to grab towards his gun every time he draws close? Do you think he should have let the suspect run and called in backup? Maybe you think no individual officer should ever make an arrest if the suspect does not want to cooperate? And if there is a large group of officers around the suspect and he is still fighting, what then? Don't you think it's okay to subdue the suspect with a club, or something like that? I think you are being unrealistic in what you assume law enforcement officer's abilities to be. That's probably due to your innate Leftism, you just casually assume government should be able to solve any problem without negative side effects. If you don't like what happened here, maybe the problem is the law, which told the other officer to make an arrest? By the way, if this immigrant were back in the Congo and tried acting the same way, does anyone honestly believe the officers there would be more civilized?
Looks like you are the only one so far who believes it was obviously "not okay", judging by the vote. By the way, I was the person who voted "other". So it looks like the 8 other people who took this poll voted "okay". What does that tell you? Maybe what happened here is not so obviously plainly wrong as you believe?
WAs it OK for Lyoya to be driving in a car with phony plates? Was it OK for Lyoya to try and flee? Was it OK for Lyoya to resist arrest? Was it OK for Lyoya get into a physical struggle with the officer? Was it OK for Lyoya to try and escalate the situation? Was it OK for Lyoya to try and get control of the officer's weapon?
Do not ask logical questions like that. That would be racist! I was shocked how this idiot did everything in his power to have the officer shoot him. Did not cooperate in any way. The officer had every right to feel he was in danger. A perp with a taser can render the cop helpless and then kill him with his own gun. The cop is not under any obligation to let this ass taser him just because he is black.
It showed a totally non compliant perp fighting with the officer and grabbing his taser. You need me to tell you watch the video. The perp was a threat from the moment he stepped out of the car even though he was told to not do that.
But didn't you see the video? As the suspect was trying to wrestle away the cop's taser, you could hear his passenger calling out, "he's not resisting arrest!" So there!
Watched 3 videos and it seems the guy did not understand what was happening, and panicked. He tried to run, and the cop caught him and then he wrestled with the cop (for a long while) and in the end the cop had him on the ground and put a bullet in the back of his head. You should never resist arrest like this, but I think the cop will go down for manslaughter, because clearly his life was not in danger. The 3rd, or 4th video shows it clearly at about 29 min mark. https://wwmt.com/news/local/watch-l...-conference-body-camera-michigan-state-police
I'm a civil libertarian so I do not automatically take the cop's side every time. This cop was by himself unlike the Laquan McDonald case or the Rayshard Brooks case but like the Michael Brown case. A cop dealing with a suspect alone cannot allow himself to be to be knocked unconscious or disabled by a taser. In the Brooks case the worst case scenario would have been for him to escape into the night. So? They had his driver's license and car. They would have found him and taken him down eventually.
What is wrong with cooperating? He was pulled over for license plates that didn’t match the car, then he ran, then he fought, then he grabbed the officers taser. He was obviously not going peacefully and paid the price, as it should be. There is no special laws for idiots. “Turn around, take the cuffs, get in the car. Easy, peasy.” Fine. Let a dangerous suspect run rampant through the neighborhood. No one knows what a desperate criminal will do next.
He knew exactly what was happening he speaks English. He was driving a stolen car and did not want to be arrested. That's why he was playing dumb and not cooperating. Once he grabbed that taser he was putting the officer's life in danger.
The investigation will conclude if death is the appropriate "price" for resisting arrest. He did resist, there is no doubt about that, but was lethal force necessary? Did the cop fear for his life? Yes, but it seemed that the guy had some serious comprehension issues.
The answer to all of those questions is "no". That doesn't mean it was ok to kill him. Not even close. If the options are killing him or letting him flee, then let him flee.
Lets just pass a new law. No one gets arrested if they don’t want to be. You just tell the officer: “Sorry. We aren’t doing that today.” See? Problem solved.
Let's just pass a law that allows the police to shoot anyone who does anything other than fully comply with their commands.
Unless the car had been stolen. Remember, the officer noticed that the license plate did not belong on that car, which you can hear him say in the video. If you watch the video, it doesn't look like the suspect gave the officer his license. The suspect, after stepping out of the car said his license plate was in the car. The officer told him to get it. The suspect opened the car door, stared in for a while, then just closed the car door, without retrieving anything, and then started moving away from the car, with the officer telling him to stop. Whether justified or not, sometimes officers do not want to let a suspect flee because they assume that means the suspect may likely be guilty of a crime. (For example, illegal things in the car)
If a lone police officer tries to stop you and you fight them, what is that officer supposed to do? Do you think this officer did not have adequate reason to stop this suspect?
If you reach for someone's gun during a confrontation, they have the right to shoot you. (Assuming that person has every legal right to be in that confrontation)
Not shoot them. Not shoot them. It doesn't matter if he had adequate reason to stop him. he did not have adequate reason to shoot him. Also, he wasn't reaching for the officer's gun. He MAY have been reaching for the tazer, but i have seen on evidence of that either other than the officer screaming at him. Either way, the police should never be allowed to shoot someone who isn't armed. Letting them run away is preferable to killing them.
I think you are being unrealistic. Police officers do not have magical powers or superhuman abilities. Normally they try to choose officers with a bigger body build and physical strength, but sometimes suspects will be bigger and stronger than them. In those cases, the officers cannot rely all just on their physical strength.
