It was never "national". It was always at a local level, where somebody would be ordered to stay at home or at a hospital until the risk of passing along the disease passed.

We do not have to go to the extent of sealing off towns and states, simply confine those infected until they are no longer contagious.

We need the ability to do a quarantine, and the decision has to come from the Feds.

The extent of a quarantine depends entirely on what the disease is doing. At least it should, we simply don't have the ability to do an effective quarantine. Anything a state would do would be half assed, at best.

Please cite the medical science for your claim.

Actually, no it does not. Local authorities have always had the authority to do so.

Look, I can give you a slew of them, but I know it is pointless as you will ignore anything that you do not agree with, and still insist you are right while giving no references at all.

But to say it simply, for over a decade I have been warning people a new Pandemic was coming. In fact, it was long overdue. And when COVID first broke into the mainstream awareness, I was making predictions based on the Spanish Flu outbreak of a century ago.

Now, care to actually give the reverse? Some medical science that claims that quarantine does absolutely no good in stopping a pandemic?

As you know, I'm totally in favor of planning for all aspects of new pandemics, as we know of several sources for such disease, and we've not been prepared for the ones we've faced over the last decade or more.

My problem with saying "quarantine" is that there are lots of ways to use that direction. And, of course we can't depend on that one direction alone - we need to be hitting on all cylinders.

Plus, even just on this board we see a near total disrespect for modern medical science from a number of posters, and I suspect that is a far broader issue than just this board. Somehow we need to resolve that, or we will once again see only marginal adherence to best practices that are found.

How about any who are positive for an infection and others living in that household forced by law to remain inside the residence until the risk of passing it along has passed?

That was done in the past, and even in the era before antibiotics and modern vaccinations it worked. It is not a total solution, but it is a fact that if those that know they have a disease are kept away from the general public the chance of their spreading it is greatly reduced.

As far as I am aware, the only group that actually did this during the last 2 years was the military. And I myself have had that happen. In 1991 a guy in my unit got Hepatitis, and the entire unit was locked down for 3 days and could not leave the building. I was married at the time, and slept on the floor until it was lifted. And I have seen it happen in other units over the decades.

I guess people have already forgotten the USS Theodore Roosevelt. Which is exactly why the military takes diseases much more seriously than most civilians do. Until Vietnam, more military normally died from disease than anything else. And we still remember that and train for it.

You still have to answer how the public will be tested, how the public will be forced to stay quarantined, etc. In China, they used the police for that. If citizens didn't have the papers for allowing them outside their homes, they could be jailed for months.

The military has it easier, as they have control over their population. They order the tests, vaccines, etc., and allow or disallow movement.

In the US population, we can't get people to wear a mask!

People wouldn't even get tested because they thought the vaccine was on the swab.
Americans were literally dying rather than follow medical advice.

Like they always had in the past. If the doctor or hospital diagnosis reveals they have a disease, they are placed under legal lockdown. Violating it can result in arrest and incarceration.

This was once common a century ago, for anything from measles and plague to Spanish Flu and mumps. It was so common that even shows like Little Rascals/Our Gang talked about it often.

That doesn't account for cases that don't involve a medical facility.

There are a number of reasons that people didn't get tested by medical facilities. Significant numbers are known to have died at home - with morgues not doing testing for various good reasons, such as not having test kits. Hospitals were WAY overcrowded, and people weren't advised to go to hospitals unless they seriously needed help. Some stayed away from hospitals even when clearly sick simply due to hospitals having large numbers of COVID patients. Tests were in short supply. Etc.

Unlike Mumps and some others, the symptoms aren't readily identifiable by the general public.

Also, quarantine facilities were in short supply or nonexistent for those who were traveling, etc.

These problems existed, but I'm sure my top of mind list is nowhere near complete.

We are also killing each other by refusing to take part in the known methods of preventing the spread of the disease.

Then it does not apply. It is impossible to detect everybody, but it is still better to isolate those that do have it that are known.

Or are you arguing that since we can not know everybody, nothing therefore should be done at all?

I think you are suggesting that the CDC (or??) broadcast that if you think you have COVID, you should self quarantine.

But, they already do that, don't they?

I think it's been known that one becomes communicable before symptoms arrive. Thus, actions aimed at those with symptoms have that as a weakness.

They also STRONGLY advise getting vaccinated (except for individuals who have certain medical conditions), and advise wearing masks, etc.

You haven't identified a plan here.

You talk about "detect everybody". But, what's your plan for detecting anyone?

And, you use "isolate" as a verb. But, what's your plan for how to do that?

Now that the democrats/swamp have found a way to steal elections, there will always be a "next pandemic" and they will always start just before an election.

There's a conspiracy theory section for that kind of nonsense.
This is a serious thread about what we can do to avoid the next pandemic.
Please take your partisan garbage elsewhere.

Honestly, you think so? The rapid rise shows otherwise. And I know people that were infected, and still complained there was nowhere to eat.

And you think the CDC should do that? No, they are a national body. It should be done as it always had been, by local officials.

And vaccination, great. Super. Superb. You do know that came a year after the virus broke out, right? What about during that initial first year? And we may not be so lucky next time, as not every virus can have a vaccine made to prevent the spread.

COVID first reached the US in January 2020. The vaccine was not even available until December.

That is as batshit crazy as the Democrats screaming about an "October Surprise" every 4 years.
