If you look at the El Paso shooter's manifesto, he most likely was not a leftist. The views in that manifesto regarding Hispanics is not too far off from Trump's.

That said, out of a Walmart at full capacity, you don't think there weren't any "good guys with guns" near that store, even though it was a gun-free zone? Anyone who could've stepped inside the store and kept the shooter from creating anymore collateral damage? That someone near the Walmart had a gun in their cars they could've grabbed it in less than a minute? The possibilities here are endless. Yes, the point is that El Paso made Texas no more safer than California or New York, because if a shooting of that magnitude can happen without a good guy with a gun stepping in, it defeats the entire idea of a open carry state being a safer state.

I cannot reconcile why good guy with gun didn't step in sooner here. Wasn't mr Beto the mayor once? Seems odd that it took 20 minutes for police to respond though... Can you imagine what he'd do to the nation then?

There is no data that contradicts the obvious benefit received by any community as a whole when a violent criminal is shot down in the act by an armed citizen.
