That's right. I remember Rush begging Republicans to drop impeachment before Bill Clinton's approval hit 100%. Nancy has warned them that its a trick but they won't listen: With Sunday surge, nearly half of House Democrats back impeachment inquiry. “ The four who issued their support on Sunday, all from Washington state, bring the total number of House Democrats who have publicly said they’d vote for an impeachment inquiry to 104 — 14 shy of a majority of the Democratic Caucus — with backers of an inquiry promising there are more waiting in the wings.” All they have to do is not act crazy…
One would have thought that the recent Mueller fiasco would have dampened their impeachment hopes, but acting crazy seems to be what the Dems do.
We couldn't be dissuaded from impeaching Clinton even though Gingrich clearly didn't have his heart in it and Dole made it abundantly clear that a censure vote and move on was the best path.
Clinton was impeached for lying under oath. That can't go unpunished otherwise what's the sense in making someone swear to tell the truth?
Crapper lied under oath to Congress, that went unpunished. Unless you are Trump's attorney, nobody that lies under oath to Congress gets prosecuted for it. But I get your point and I mostly agree with it. It seemed to me that we lost all the momentum we had built in cutting the size of the Federal Government with impeachment and I'm not sure whatever we accomplished through impeachment was worth that.
Was he under oath or did he just lie to congress? Brennan was caught lying to congress about spying on the Senate Intel Committee and Hillary Clinton lied to congress or to the FBI or to the public since she gave three different accounts to a question. Neither were place under oath but of course lying to the FBI or congress is a felony.
It doesn't matter. Federal law makes it a crime to "knowingly and willfully" give "materially" false statements to Congress, even if unsworn, up to five years in prison. Crapper appeared before the Senate to discuss surveillance programs in the midst of a controversy over warrantless surveillance of the American public. He was asked directly, “Does the NSA collect any type of data at all on millions, or hundreds of millions of Americans?” There was no ambiguity or confusion and Clapper responded, “No, sir. … Not wittingly.” That was a lie and Clapper knew it when he said it. Crapper’s word was used as proof that Trump was lying in saying that there was surveillance of Trump Tower carried out by President Barack Obama. CNN and other networks used Crapper’s assurance without ever mentioning that he previously lied about surveillance programs. The problem is not that the perjury statute is never enforced. Rather it is enforced against people without allies in government. Thus, Roger Clemens was prosecuted for untrue statements before Congress and more recently Michael Cohen. That's right. If you are made man or woman, you can lie with impunity. Comey lied repeatedly to President Trump, who is obviously a Federal Official, you think Comey will be charged? For Crapper, the attempt to justify his immunity from prosecution has tied officials into knots. After Crapper lied before Congress and there was a public outcry, Crapper gave his “least untruthful answer” justification. When many continued to demand a prosecution, National Intelligence general counsel Robert Litt insisted that Crapper misunderstood the question. Still later, Litt offered a third rationalization: that Crapper merely forgot about the massive surveillance system. That’s right. Crapper forgot one of the largest surveillance programs in the history of this country. Litt did not explain why Crapper himself said that he knowingly chose the “least untruthful answer.” Litt added, “It was perfectly clear that he had absolutely forgotten the existence of the ... program ... We all make mistakes.” Of course, this “mistake” was a felony offense. Crapper established the standard of lying about a massive, unconstitutional surveillance program and then admitting that he made an “untruthful” statement. That would seem to satisfy the most particular prosecutor in submitting a case to a grand jury, but this is Washington and that was life under the completely useless Jeff Sessions. Hopefully Barr is better made.
I bet she do not know that after impeachment it requires a Senate confirmation to remove a President from office. It is irresponsible and an Abuse of Power for the House to vote for impeachment when there is no chance the Senate will follow up with removal from office! Remember Bill Clinton impeachment farce! Moi
I don't know what their end game here is, maybe to keep their base whipped up until the election. Or as cover for the fact that they are doing nothing to improve the lives of their constituents, as Trump pointed out with Cummings an his crooked wife.
Not at all. He's one of the most principled, ethical professionals you can find, and with a record to back it up.
He looked like an incompetent fool sitting in that hearing. Like he didn't even know what was in the report. Makes you wonder you actually wrote it. I am guessing it was actually Andrew Weissman.
Yep! Tom Steyer said it best yesterday. In fact, he changed my mind. "This is the problem with Washington." he said. "They are more worried about politics than doing what is right. It is never bad politics to pursue the truth and protect the Constitution". Dead on Tom! Do your duty and let the chips fall where they may. That's the ticket. Impeach and let the Senate deal with their own consciences. I'll be looking closely at Steyer now. He is the voice of one crying out in the wilderness
You mean with innuendo and not evidence. Mueller certainly made a decision in part 1 so the language, bad language at that, was just a political statement for the useful idiots. No doubt Weissmann created that since Mueller had little clue what was in the report. It now looks like Weissmann was involved in setting Papadopoulos up. The good news is that Barr is looking into the shenanigans that went on under Obama's watch.
He was the first one to publicly state what we all thought... I signed up at need to impeach last December..
Mueller did not know of Fusion GPS. That would be like Bill Belichick saying he never heard of the Kansas City Chiefs. Mueller must have been something before electricity.
Yes, I too support his effort. But I wasn't really taking him seriously as a Presidential candidate yet. At this point in time I'm a Biden supporter. But Steyer's immediate default to ethics and duty got my attention. Anyone who shows vision or depth of character gets my attention. You know, anti-trumps.
