We have a process, which apparently originated when Obama was in office. When President Trump listened to liberals and attempted to fix what they see as a problem, they are more furious. Now really think about this. This is probably the first president and maybe the only one you will see in your lifetimes, that actually listens to the populace and not in an election year. And the fact that you are still mad, after you got what you want, proves to me that it was never sympathy for the children at all. Just another way to attempt to get at the president. So quit trying to make me believe you care about children.

They certainly didn't care about them when Obama was POTUS.

It stopped the separation because a judge thought is wasn't a good thing to do and set an arbitrary number of days. This on appeal would most likely be turned over as have other such immigration decisions by lower judges who put their feelings above the law.

Again you conflate applying for asylum with whether you entered legally or illegally.

"You would need to either submit an application on your own (an "affirmative" application), within certain time limits, or if you are caught by the immigration authorities, apply for asylum during your immigration court hearing. The fact that you are in the U.S. illegally is no bar to applying for asylum -- though it may cause you to be picked up by the immigration authorities, which would mean you'd have to skip the first, affirmative application step, such that the first hearing on your claim would be in immigration court (also called the "Executive Office for Immigration Review" or "EOIR")."

They crossed the border illegally and we separate US CITIZEN families even before their cases have been adjudicated, if they are being detained for any reason.

If separating a family is inhumane it is inhumane now reconcile why it is OK to separate US CITIZEN families if there is an investigation or detention of the adult and not OK when it is a illegal alien.

READ the law. You are wrong. I even put the part you need to digest in red so you won't miss it.

    (a) Authority to apply for asylum

    (1) In general

Any alien who is physically present in the United States or who arrives in the United States (whether or not at a designated port of arrival and including an alien who is brought to the United States after having been interdicted in international or United States waters), irrespective of such alien’s status, may apply for asylum in accordance with this section or, where applicable, section 1225(b) of this title.

Concerning your last sentence, my suspicions have been verified. You're not reading my posts before responding. I am not now, nor have I once in this thread, defended illegal immigration. I have stated numerous times that I am not in favor of illegal immigration.

Except, my points were never about immigrants, but rather asylum seekers, so again, you're conflating disparate groups and arguing apples against oranges.

Where I live, we grow cotton, soybeans, corn and sorghum, predominately, and have been automated for a while. What we have trouble with is a president starting a tariff war and losing markets. China can grow their own soybeans or buy them from some other place. We won't ever get that market back. I guess we'll start growing hemp.

It works and crop change is always part of the business. My uncle's made a killing with commercial catfish farming. The rice and soybeans were just a sideline. Here in central Texas meat goats are the big business. The middle easterners can't get enough of them. Mom and pop along with grandma can do pretty well but the fence has to be good and you need either a pair of donkeys or working dogs to keep out the predators. Much easier business than cattle.
What I really kick my arse about was not buying about 60 acres or so of prime grape growing property with some of the infrastructure already built in. You don't need much to make a nice profit. That one wakes me up at night.

It was in the article. A lot of entreports either have very long waiting lines or are just turning people away.

I don't know what you don't get, but you don't seem to understand that in the law it says it doesn't matter whether they enter at a port of entry or not… if they are seeking asylum. The Trump/Sessions policy is to prosecute anyone, including asylum seekers, that enters the country outside a port of entry, even though the law specifically says asylum seekers don't have to enter through a port of entry. Because Sessions has CHOSEN to prosecute them for a misdemeanor, he is having them detained until trial, and because children can't be jailed, he's separating children from their parent. This human rights violation is strictly because Sessions is prosecuting everyone that enters outside a port of entry, even though that is not the law, and asylum seekers have done nothing illegal by entering the country at a place that is not a port of entry. What you're also not hearing often enough is that ICE/CBP turn asylum seekers away from ports of entry, claiming that the facilities are full, and are being lied to about other requirements as well. It doesn't matter if the facilities are full. You don't turn asylum seekers away. You bring them in, verify their status, and then deal with them accordingly. The reason many are entering outside ports of entry is that they have been turned away repeatedly, at the port of entry… illegally. They are being told they must register with Mexican immigration before they can be processed into the US, but the asylum seekers are from Honduras and Guatemala. Mexico has no jurisdiction over them. They are being told they need a visa first, that Trump has eliminated asylum, and other lies to deter them from asking for asylum.

Eliminating asylum would be a good thing for everyone. But hey, there is a solution. Let's just take over the countries. Make them territories at first. States later if they clean it up and speak English.

I don't think asylum seekers would agree. Honestly, if I was raising my kids in Guatemala or Honduras, and they were threatened, I'd get them out if I could. I can see single men staying and fighting against the lawlessness and gang violence, but kids need to be protected, and if you can't protect them there, you go elsewhere. If no one offered asylum, where do you go? We're not talking about large numbers of people being granted asylum- it was like 1600 last year… from Guatemala. What we need to differentiate is between immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers, and handle them differently. Refugees and asylum seekers need to be helped immediately. They have been in life threatening conditions. Immigrants can be added based on merit or qualifications. If we need doctors or workers with some certain skills, we can add them through preferred immigration. Most legal immigrants came here that way anyway.

What we need to do is track those that come into the country on a visa, when that visa expires, and follow up to make sure they leave on time. That's where most illegal immigrants come from, not from crossing the Mexican border.

Guatemala has had its problem for decades if not longer. Many of the people are just incapable of adapting to a modern society. They can fit in some ways, but they will be perennial bottom dwellers. If they could, they would go back to the "old ways" but with a few modern conveniences. In short, the problem is not really solvable without harsh measures.
I've used this example more than once, but they're like the Himba people of Namibia. If they're brought into anything that resembles a modern society, they rapidly become beggars. They much prefer living the old life, of course with as many free gibs me as they can acquire which is not really much. They will always be there, just as they are and nothing on this planet will change it.

It doesn't matter to any of these people. NOTHING matters to them. Most of these people are on record as saying we should just kill anyone who tries to enter illegally, man , woman or child for any reason

There's really no point in trying to reason or argue with people who think we should kill 5/6 of our OWN people. Just for god's sake VOTE against them in November and NEVER stay away from an election again. Keep people like this FAR away from any positions of power.

If they went to the trouble to come here and ask for asylum, they are being proactive about their kids safety. I won't fault them for it. If they are truly in danger, we should let them in, IMO.

wake up, they are crossing our border illegally. This is factually a crime. Because leftist minds are not capable of grasping this is not the rest of our problems. Its yours. If you dont want to be separated from your children...its real easy...dont commit crimes.

lets test you and your post for BS. Nothing matters to us eh? Illegals cross our borders and rape and murder our citizens. Show me one post youve made in defense of the U.S. children separated permanently from their parents because of illegals murdering them or their parents. One.

Is that the problem? Or are we having massive problems with kids coming without parents - unaccompanied or with coyotes. Now we've got to do something with all these kids coming here without their parents.

I don't know what you don't get the STILL entered ILLEGALLY and can be picked as I cited and once picked up can be detained. They don't get INSTANT asylum.

OH WELL wait your turn and do it legally and stand in line with those doing it LEGALLY and yes if the person seeking asylum from Honduras goes to Mexico first THAT is where they are supposed to seek asylum, they don't get to pick the country they want go to. And quite frankly I don't give a lot of creedence to what the illegals are saying nor their "advocates". And note "verify their status" that takes time and if they are hear illegally and we are having to detain them just as if we were detaining a US CITIZEN for some legal purpose they can be separated. Why should people who came here illegally through an illegal entry whom we don't know who they are or even if those are their children get special treatment that US citizens do not get?

OH well................wait in line like everyone else that does not give someone license to violated the law to get in. Better yet apply at the US Consulate in your home country before you even head this way.

Yes because according to the open border people they are all being held in Nazi concentration camps with Nazi guards in inhumane conditions and being totally abused by Health and Human Services officials.

We don't know if they are or not, they are coached in how to pretend they are and are seeking asylum. There are strict rules for refugee or asylum status and the person must prove and verify they qualify and until they do we shouldn't let them into country under such status. That means you come to a port of entry and wait your turn to make your case all the while you are not allowed entry. If you come in illegally then we detain you while you attempt to make your case, quite frankly we need to change that law such that you get deported and told to come back to a legal port of entry or go to your home country US Consulate. But in the meantime you are detained and during that detention you can have you children sent back or they get detained in a proper holding facility until the parents status is cleared AND they can prove those are THEIR children which we don't know that to be a fact until we can verify it.
