Trump doubles down on sanctions - threatening Europe with divorce

I I didn't say "everywhere" so quit pretending otherwise. Al Qaeda and ISIS were defeated near everywhere in Syria except in the areas that were under US control. What does territory controlled in Iraq have to do with Syria ?

I like what you've written but it leaves me with a very important question, one that I do not think has been discussed or even mentioned. Trump. He is taking a lot of flak for something he may not be responsible for. I mean, his decisions are certainly a "straw" in the haystack but it may only be "the last straw".

The U.S. has been playing dirty for at least 70 years and each time they toss their filthy hat into the ring, the ring itself gets deeper and dirtier. I am not excusing Trump but I do not believe he should take all of the blame for the U.S.-European falling out. The fact that the U.S. is doubling down on its bullying is because we in Europe no longer see the U.S. as the "good guy" and so we are not as eager to follow Washington's lead as we did when we assumed the American heart was in the right place. It disgusts me when Americans say that we would be speaking German if not for them. So instead we had to learn English! What's the difference? Anyway, this is a new century and most us in Europe speak both English and German. Is something wrong with that? The majority of Americans don't even speak English as well as we do.

So thanks America(!) for lending a hand in the 1940's but this is 2019 and we don't owe you anything any more, particularly now that supporting you ..... suffocates us. But this situation didn't drop out of the sky since Trump came into office.

Exactly, you didn't say everywhere and attempted a very deceitful tactic of saying Russia defeated ISIS by concentrating on one small area only and conveniently omitting the vast territory America liberated from these ISIS thugs and in so doing you threw our troops that fought and died and were seriously injured doing so under your political agenda bus. Sickening and repulsive behavior!

 

I said no such thing ? I asked you to name one major city prior to October 2017 that was taken from ISIS and/or Al Qaeda by Trump.

ISIS/Al Qaeda - and a few smaller groups had all of Syria but Damascus (Sans areas like where the Kurds and Turks are obviously) . The US did not liberate any of these cities that had to be liberated. By the time the US went after Raqqa ISIS was already a fraction of its former self - and it was the Syrian Army and Russia/Iran that did this.

Raqqa is in the area held by the US where the Kurds are - and it was the Kurds that did the fighting - with US/coalition air support.

We got ISIS out of there and a few other place in Syria around that time but the heavy lifting in the rest of Syria had already done.

One of the reasons we acted so late is that for most of the war we were on the same side as ISIS and Al Qaeda in Syria. We gave or facilitated the arming of these thugs with tens of thousands of tons of sophisticated military equipment - while they raping, murdering and killing Christians and other marginalized religious groups.

 

You bring up and important point. We can go through a host of dirty deeds before Donald. Look at the Iraq war. It was not like the intelligence agencies of our allies - like our own intelligence agency - were not fully aware of the propaganda and lies fostered on the American people and the world to justify attacking Iraq. Gadaffi gave up his WMD programs in exchange for security - then we turned around and killed him. In both cases we left these nations a mess.

Arming Al Qaeda and ISIS in Syria with tens of thousands of tons of sophisticated military technology - an action which has resulted in the destruction of Syria - and a whole lot ancient historical sites - the death of 500,000 people, the rise of the modern incarnation of ISIS - and the refugee crisis (most to Europe) which has further spread the plague of Islamist extremism all over the globe.

This is just the tip of the iceberg - we can go back many years and list many more dirty deeds. One also has to remember that Donald - while President - is only one person. He did not dream up many of these actions - he has a host of Goblins such as Bolton on his team and he also has the bureaucratic Establishment to contend with - and of course the Establishment international financiers that put him in power.

It kind of goes against the claimed objective of defeating terrorist groups when you are giving them support and tens of thousands of tons of sophisticated military equipment wouldn't you say ?
