    All jokes aside, honest question.

Do you think the US should not have a "Space Force", being that China and Russia have recently announced they will?

They were used so often in combat. Can't believe they were ever cancelled given how ubiquitous their use was.

We may not want to militarize space but we may be forced to do so as a defensive action begfore Russia and /or China does it.

We never used nuclear artillary shells in combat.

I know. I'm being sarcastic. Apacherat has a hard-on for pointless weapons that we never used and that are out of date.

Russia and China have not done that yet but you can bet the ranch on the fact that they want to.

You mean Russia and China want to have US/European WMD's hanging over their countries with little to no warning before they rain destruction on them? Because that's what would happen very quickly if they militarize space first.

Vice versa if we do it.

No I would not place nuclear weapons in space yet. As a matter of fact I firgot to include lazer weapon development as a necessity of the Space Command.

I am deadly serious we need to start developing weapons that we will need in space and to defend ourselves in space as we start exploring.
The weapons thatvwe will need are in the minds of authors of Science Fiction.

Who said anything about nuclear weapons? 3 meter long spikes of tungsten and depleted uranium weighing a couple tons will do as much damage as a nuke once they get a little help from gravity.

Space based nukes are really only useful to temporarily blind early warning radars.

What can you do with a space based based laser that can’t be done more effective with an airborne or earth based one? Do you understand the problems with generating heat in space and how much heat a laser will generate?

We don’t need science fiction reader writers unless they’ve read every word on Atomic Rockets.

I do not believe that 3 meters or even 30 meters of tungsten and or depleted uranium will do more damaevthana low level nuke.

When it’s travelling at terminal velocity speeds from orbit, yeah it will.

The USAF already did the theoretical number crunching. Look up Project Thor.

Your lack of imagination is very clear, as is your understanding of military possibility.

Let's put this into context. Just about any hard sunstance traveling at terminal velocity will crunch a lot of things because essentially it becomes a meteror.

I’m sorry that I have actual knowledge of things like satellite reconnaissance and orbital mechanics that bursts your bubble, but what I said was accurate.

Yes, and the projected yield of Project Thor type weapons is estimated to be similar to that of a tactical nuke.

I would think that theoretically that if we could accelerate a "glob" of plasma to the speed of light it could result in a nice weapon. Sort of like plasma bullets at light speed. I could destroy Russia in half an hour with such a weapon and still let half of their population live.

Except Project Thor is actually something that could be built. Whereas near-c plasma weapons are nothing but pure science fiction.

    Wrong on all counts!

Firstly JFK established a CIVILIAN space agency!

Secondly the military are the biggest wasters of taxpayer dollars.

The military needs money to pay the troops better. All that your BLOTUS is doing is setting another way to FUNNEL our tax dollars into corporations in order to make the wealthy elite even richer.

So it was a STUPID decision and will cause even more economic harm than good.

    Science fiction is just that.

Any space based weapon has to conform to physics. It sets limits.
