The profits you are referring to are US Profits. China's value add on an Iphone is something like 3% - cheap labor essentially. Decreased Iphone sales due to tariffs will not reduce the labor working at factories in China that much. It is Apple and the US consumer that bears the brunt of the cost. Lose and Lose.

In addition - the counter tariffs on farm goods - something that has a near 100% US value add (as opposed to 3%) hurts us as well.

Lose, Lose, Lose. For a fellow that runs around crying "were winning, were winning" - he sure does seem to be losing alot.

    Yous said

And that is YOUR bolding. I don't have the time nor patient to try and discuss it if you are going to deny your own post.

Now do you also oppose the socialistic policies the Democrats are advocating?

No, i hold them all accountable. At least some dems do, and they didn’t capitulate when the reality star took the helm.

Duties are paid by the importer, and the “importer” is the buyer. Sorry Joseph, you cant claim a tax levied by the US in the US is passed on to the customer, and then when levied on an importer as paid by the supplier. It’s beyond disengenous

I used to work for a crop insurer, and I understand that side pretty well. It can be good for the farmer, but it’s REALLY good for the insurer. Guaranteed profits are in the farm bill every year.

The tarriffs are going to affect prices at harvest, but they may not be causing them today

My problem with the steel tariff is its downstream affects. Yes, america steel is being bought, but as a raw material, the downstream effects will actually hurt the economy. Even in good times, almost everyone still watches their margins. So either the manufacturer will pay the tariff, or they will pass it on to the consumer, but either way, when you tax a raw material, MANY of the downstream products raise in cost also.

Exactly why farmers aren't going bankrupt today because of the tariffs as the OP suggested, ignorant at best. Now tariffs might hurt prices although 1 month ago they were pretty good and most farmers booked a lot of crop. Now with the planting season being horrible we'll have a shortfall in this years crop but we have a lot of grain in storage so who knows where that ends up at the end of the day. If there is a shortfall, prices will overcome China's assault on US farmers, if Trump get's a deal with China and we have a shortfall then prices will really spike and the farmers will be in very good shape. It's to early to tell and we're definitely at a critical spot for many.

Free trade will reduce our trade deficit that is now so out of balance due to long standing tarrifs on our exports.

Chinas assault on American farmers is only an example of how they will rule the worlds economy if the succeed with mercantilism assault on foreign workers

Your statement was more and better paying jobs don't mean less poor people and you have failed to explain to me how this economic theory of yours works.

Fair trade will not lead to balanced trade but it leads to fair trade which is all Trump is asking of China. If they drop tarrifs on us goods and stop stealing intellectual property from us the trade deficit will shrink remarkably.

So only 3% of the cost of a cell phone is chinese labor?

Slave labor without even a hint of pollution controls?

So liberals want slightly cheaper phones and do care about unemployment in America and pollution in china

Thats sick as well as shortsighted

Okay. Fair point. How do we protect those then whom are already at the bottom and put some safe guards into place to prevent people who are already on the fringe from going hungry?

What I'm saying is China may have to reduce the cost of it's exports to keep market share so in the long run the 25% tarrif may be marginally felt by consumers. This tends to get left out of the debate.

"China's assault on American farmers" - Huh???

Iowa farmers regret their vote for Trump: https://twitter.com/nowthisnews/status/1130531884935499777

''‘I’ll never vote for him again.’'

Farmers need to blame themselves for voting Republican.

Free trade will not necessarily do any such thing. Do you have any idea what you're talking about or are you cool to let a bona fide idiot like trump think for you?

Of course I did! I showed how good jobs in the tire industry cost Americans money. Do I need to break it down more for you? I can get you numbers if you don't believe me. Or you can research it yourself.

He has a bipartisan support to be tough on China, not to implement tariffs or a trade war.

So I guess you think Chinese tarrifs on US goods have absolutely no effect?
