Trump weighs restarting economy despite warnings from U.S. public health officials

I predicted this progression 3 weeks ago. It has nothing to do with panic, it has everything to do with understanding the math of exponential growth. That's why the doctors are so worried. Unfortunately, Trump stopped listening to them. Of course, he doesn't listen to scientists anyway, because he knows better.

 

This is a meaningless post.

The measure is wheter we're on a successful path, not some abstract statement that cooperation exists.

 

YOU implied that medical science was opposed to Trump.

And, you need to cite evidence of that - or you should retract.

 

Read the news. It's plenty public that Trump told NY that he would provide no help.

 

So you again have nothing, only your mind reading rants. BTW 4000 ventilators were just sent to Cuomo in New York. And the US Navy Hospital ship is near maintenance completion and will be heading to NYC harbor.

That post was cold hard fact.

Accepting fact is NOT "panic" - it is the ONLY basis for sound decision making.

 

Sending ventilators to NY doesn't help New Jersey (with the second most cases). It doesn't help WA, CA, FL, and the rest.

The issue is whether we are marshalling our full capacity to fight this disease that is threatening to overwhelm our healthcare capacity.

And, I see NO evidence that we're doing that.

I'd point out that FEMA is now using that act to create face masks. Good.

Why so late? Why not ventilators? Why not other disposable supplies that are in such short supply? Why not tests?

 

Great idea, what do the medical experts think about that? If it's effective I say go for it. I don't think it is though.

Because traffic accident victims are not over running our hospitals. I'll tell you what though, if there's no hospital beds traffic fatalities will rise also. Look, take it easy. The adults are in charge. For now.

 

You may notice that 4,000 is only a fraction of 30,000 and 30,000 is what one state needs.

You claim Trump is doing the wrong thing by wanting to open up business as soon as possible. If that’s the wrong thing what’s the right thing? You can’t say one way is wrong if you have no alternative or is it just that anything Trump does is wrong?

 

You act like this virus will keep killing hundreds of thousands of people every year indefinitely. There will be lots of deaths and people will get better. The disease will not spread like it is now. The need for all of these respirators will go away until the next pandemic. I intend to keep my elderly family as isolated as I can for the long term, but shutting down the US economy will kill people for years. People are losing their jobs, their business, their homes, and their cars. Poverty and dependence on welfare will increase along with crime. People will die, but you don't care because it can't be tied directly to shutting down the economy.

The current shutdowns will buy us some time to limit the spread so we can better keep up with the demand on medical care. After the 2 weeks, it's the law of diminishing returns on the shutdown. Every week after that we will be saving fewer lives from disease and taking more lives from economic chaos and the crime and desperation that follows.

 

Boris Johnson increased their production of ventilators markedly by coordinating the efforts of corporations that chose to volunteer their help to his effort.

There is no reason we couldn't do the same.

He signed the Defense Production Act. Then, he tweeted that he would not use it.

 

Our hospitals are geared to the known factor of auto accidents and now they are in the process of gearing up for Corona patients. Ain’t capitalism grand.

 

I have a gun for personal protection but so far nobody has forced entry and made me use it. People voluntarily respect my closed doors

The DPA has been activated. The private sector is responding.

Dr. Birx just said that they have conducted 220,000 tests in the last 8 days.

 

At some point that’s what we have to do unless we keep things shut down until there’s a vaccine. Is that your plan?

Seems like your entire argument has boiled down to Easter is not a realistic date. You do realize that’s not a hard date but a hoped for date and something to work towards don’t you or do you?

 

Wanting things to be all better is NOT A SOLUTION. In fact it's not diffrent from what everyoe in the world wants, obviously.

The isssue is how to get there.

Why are you asking ME for the solution when medical science has been so crystal clear???

Trump needs to be putting his weight behind the solutions we've been given.

There is a White House committee on COVID. Dr. Fauci and others of various perspectives are on that committee. I'm fine with them working out guidelines for what we should see before opening our economy and how to go about doing that.

But, saying "Easter" is a message that downplays the very actions required to make opening the economy possible.

 

Strange he has three on his panel.
