Yes - testing is part of a response. We had to see the virus before a test could be created, as I understand it.

We were identifying it before there was any test produced in the US.

China had a more difficult problem. They had to figure out that it was something new, even though symptoms are reasonable close to other viruses. And, they had to figure out stuff like when it is contagious, how easily, etc.

I'm reasonably sure that the issue is how to keep our hospitals from being overrun.

If we could slow the growth rate such that hospitals are staying functional and meetng demand I could see backing off some.

Right now, new case numbers show an exponential growth curve - which there is NO chance for our hospitals to keep up with.

That's slowing ALL hospital functions. It's ending all but emergency surgeries, etc., etc. And, until the rapid growth stops it is going to get worse. Hospitals can not keep up with exponential growth.

    I'd also point out that:
    - let's remember that our hospitals are saving a lot of people. If our hospitals get overrun then the percent who die is going to go up, obviously.

    - CDC reports that about 40% of the death count is from people between 22 and 50 - a larger pool, but let's be careful about what being high risk means. One factor is that those who are younger are more likely to be saved by hospitalization. But, if there isn't hospital space, that factor doesn't mean much.

Exactly. I live in California where they have locked down the tennis courts and golf courses but are doing nothing about the 200,000 homeless people living in tents right next to each other and defecating on the streets.

What would you like to have done?

I agree that toilets should be provided - as well as some method of garbage pickup.

Get them off the streets and into mental health treatment facilities and drug rehabilitation facilities.

According Dr. Mark Siegel the case curve has begun to flatten out in NY which has half of the US cases and 5% of global cases. Additionally there are many drugs in the clinical test phase showing promising results and the fast 15 minute pin prick test kits are beginning to roll out. All great news except to the Trump haters.

And your claim that Fauci and Trump are not on the same page is BS.

    LOL

Do you really think that exists???

We don't have beds for people who DO need mental health treatment or who WANT to be in drug rehabilitation facilities.

California and Washington state governments have been abdicating their responsibility to both the homeless mentally ill and drug addicted and to law abiding citizens for decades.

No, it doesn’t exist to the shame of those states.

It helps to not be snarky, too, but that doesn't seem to click with many forum users.

There is a homeless problem in every state. And, I know of no state that has inpatient capacity for those who need mental or substance abuse help.

It's rampant in California and Washington. And the liberal progressives have done nothing about it for decades. If corona gets into these ghettos there will be a disaster.

There are 42 states that have a higher COVID growth rate than that of WA.

We're following our Gov, and it's working - even though Trump is lobbying to surrender.

You had a disaster in a nursing home and you are apologizing for Washington.

What is Seattle doing about preventing Corona from infecting their homeless population ???

    I don't actually know.

All I can say is that our growth rate is down to 13% - which is lower than the growth rate in 42 other states.

And, your concern about the homeless is wildly out of the ordinary for you, so I wonder if you aren't just trolling.
