Yes. The Republican Congress that kisses Trump's ass.

And it's also Trump who defunded military programs for his imaginary "wall".

The House of Representatives where all spending bills must begin is controlled by the Democrats.

And military funding used for the wall were relatively miniscule.

Point of fact. Half of congress is democraticly controlled and. The wall is not imaginary.

Starting last year. And the only budget they have prepared would be the first one projected to reduce the budget deficit since Trump became President*. All others have been prepared by a Republican House, and they have been a disaster!

Start with the Dept. of Education (64 Billion). Then HUD (47.9 Billion).

Half of Congress only since last year. So they have prepared one budget only. And it is projected to be the only one in this administration that will reduce the budget deficit.

Sorry to be the one to break it to you. The wall is imaginary.

So the Dems will now be demanding budget cuts?

We are being attacked -- by swarms of illegals while we waste money on foolish foreign military expenditures.

Other than Mexico and Central America. They invade the US every day.

Dems have been the ones working on a balanced budget for decades now. With heavy opposition from Republicans

You need to keep up. Things have changed. These aren't the 60s anymore.

Agree on the illegals. But I think our efforts overseas are valuable in our defense as well.

To some extent. But surely you would agree that it is disturbing that we have troops deployed to 150 countries and we have 40,000 troops in locations that are kept secret from American voters. Twenty three Trillion dollars of debt is a bigger threat to the US than some yet to appear bogeyman in a foreign country.

You have actual proof of this? And no you can't count the Marine guards protecting American embassy's as "deployed troops" in a foreign country.

I have a child currently deployed, as do millions of American parents. I spent time deployed as well. I do not take deployment lightly but the truth is we are safer as a country when we fight our enemies abroad as opposed to waiting for them to decided how that engagement will develop domestically.

That's the thing with boogie men, they are that until they are not. I'm not willing to wait and see which ones develop into something that can do harm. I'm all for bringing troops home (which is a bigger concern than the cost to me) but not at the cost of giving us security.

Concern about an unanticipated threat is why we have a rapid deployment capability. What sort of threat requires a presence in 150 countries and 40,000 military deployed to classified locations?

If we are going to keep debt from destroying our country there can be no budgetary sacred cows.

Given the number of Australians who post here, I have to add that we have over 2800 troop in Australian. Why?

The US taxpayer is giving these countries military welfare and going in debt to do so. Is there a reason why these countries can't provide for their own defense? If we have to defend them can they not pay us to do so?

Yes and all their ideas are about slashing defence spending, the one thing they are constitutionally required to provide.

Bases. It's not about defending the U.K. or Germany etc it's about having bases in those parts of the world. Invaluable when projecting power.

Japan for examples provides us with a unsinkable base when North Korea get looney as well as a reminder to China that they are not the sole power in that part of the world.

The first sentence says: The military of the United States is deployed in more than 150 countries around the world, with approximately 170,000 of its active-duty personnel serving outside the United States and its territories

In addition it is stated: Nearly 40,000 are assigned to classified missions in locations that the US government refuses to disclose.[2]
