A progressive value is a value imposed upon others by force of law. Progressives, be they socialists, communists, Republicans, islamists or Democrats never see the imposition of their best intentions upon others as a usurpation of other people's best intentions for themselves. They all see it as the only alternative to chaos or having their counterpart's best intentions imposed upon them by force, or by mere exposure.

A progressive in an one who cannot feel fulfilled, as an individual, unless they're telling other people what to do.

So you agree with same-sex marriage, abortion, and the decriminalization of marijuana?

    To a progressive?

To a statist? I think we might be getting somewhere!

How do you define oppression? Does it entail anything, like raindrops that keep falling on my head? Are those raindrops capable of being oppressive?

No, you prefer single-payer because you think it means somebody else is going to pay for your health care. See, I know you guys.

No, money is not necessarily debt backed. If I have a dollar in my pocket from working for an hour in the fields, who do I owe?

I don't think you really understand the concept, but I'll give you a chance. Who do I owe for having that dollar in my pocket?

The Episcopal church is socially liberal, it seems to be following the policy that the church should accommodate the major social trends in society (something Jesus, Paul, and John warned us about), which is causing serious problems with its global community. Its hardly the example for Christianity.

In the Catholic Church, marriage is all about children and family. Couples are counseled about marriage and children, and in most Catholic Churches a couple will not be married unless they attend the pre-marriage counseling and are Catholic or promise to raise the children in a Catholic environment.

Baptists are less rigid than Catholics about the process, but teach that marriage is between a man and a woman and children are an integral part of marriage. The same for the Assembly of God.

Its ridiculous to deny that Christianity firmly believes that marriage is between a man and a woman, marriage is about family and children, and children should be raised in a Christian environment. Further, homosexuality is labeled a sin in the Bible, and since gay marriage is a flaunting of sin it is an abomination to God.

States issue marriage licenses without regard to the qualifications or ability of the potential married couple, but that's because in the past there were other processes in place to insure the couple were capable of raising children and supporting a family, and provided a backup in case problems arose. Those other processes were the church and the family, but "progressives" have removed those processes from the system and contributed greatly to the demise of society.

    To some.

Recognizing that government will always exist does not make one a statist. It makes one have common sense.

I generally don't use the term a lot and seldom when referring to anything not involving the third world, but sure if rain drops oppress you, then to you they are oppressive. A tin foil hat will probably keep them off you, well until you try to climb up the water spout at least.

I pay for my own insurance. I am not even eligible to receive a government subsidized policy.

    Clearly you do not.

The person who is going to have to work an hour in the factory to produce your microwave dinner.

    I doubt you have one.

I'm starting to see a pattern here that suggests progressives don't really exist. They have no shared ideology, no shared values, and nothing they can say "this is what we progressives believe in".

Another term like liberal that doesn't really apply to my friends on the left, so maybe you guys could explain why you all seem to goose step to the same drummer. Who is that drummer, and why do you follow his lead?

Rape and murder will always happen too. I guess if you want to bow down and accept what you consider inevitable, then that's another reason you guys have no shared morality.

So oppression is subjective, even when discussing rain. Hmm.... Well, I guess that's another value you might share with fellow lefties. No moral values, no codes of honor, but rather a belief that oppression is subjective.

    Interesting.

It doesn't matter what you do now because I was remarking on what you said you would prefer if given your druthers. I pay my own mortgage, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't want to split the costs with my neighbor. After all, he makes more than I do, so he can afford to pay for my stuff.

I'm getting a better picture by the hour. See, you might not want to come straight out and admit there is a common value amongst people who claim to be progressives, but the more you blab, the more those values emerge.

and now the anger... yeah, I'm getting close to the nerve.

You doubt that I have a dollar? I think I just hit both the nerve and bone.

Im sorry, but no lesbian couple can "have" kids, unless you mean adopt, artificial insemination, or getting a surrogate.
All involve a male at some point. Not even lefty logic can change this.

What the hell kind of reasoning is this?

Lefties can create alternate realities at will--never underestimate them.

I am the drummer. I follow my own lead.

Whatever I believe is my morality. What you believe is your morality.

"Honor" is even more subjective than "freedom" and "oppressive"

Perhaps you could get a job mowing his grass to help pay for your mortgage.

So in the same post you say there is no common value and that there is a common value. Like I said before, this is just your troll thread.

I have no anger toward the person who works in the factory to make your microwave dinner. I know a lot of people who work in a factory making frozen foods.

Do you have a dollar in your pocket? If so, you must work the pole or be very old. I can go a whole month without touching a piece of currency, letting alone have any in my pocket. The only checks I have to write are for my business. I much prefer doing all that electronically too but my bookkeeper threatened to quit if I kept handing her a stack of bills and a bank statement to figure out what was paid and to whom. She makes me write checks and staple a copy of each to the bill or receipt even if it is just a copy of the blank check before I wrote it at a store. She is very old school like that. I do pay my personal utilities by check though. I don't trust those bastards enough to let them take the money automatically since I think my utilities charges are based on how much money they need and not how much I actually use.

What are its effects on children? You got some references?

I would certainly rather my child be raised by a poor but honest heterosexual couple than a couple of rich homosexuals if I were to pass away. No question there. Who would want their child raised by a couple of wealthy narcissists? What kind of parenting would they provide?

(Got a comment on my link to the fact that homosexuals are narcissists.)

Text or oral communication? Depends on if they have a standard accent and what they are talking about. Oral is tougher, but I can handle the written fairly well.

Oral. Its most valued in medicine. If you can't-CAN YOU? Yes, that means Im asking about you working to get up to snuff.

If you dont know the common dialects within 100 miles of you, why not?

Honest question-how far are the nearest hospitals?

See, sometimes speaking a language can save lives.

Im being the opposite of dramatic-its just true.

    That's a good point.

I'd have to move out of this area to leverage it, but I can imagine the lack of Chinese speakers in smaller communities outside the city. In Austin Texas? Hell no, but in some small town away from the city it could come in handy. Do hospitals actually hire people for that?

I've been feeling the itch and thinking about getting going on my Chinese again...I enjoy learning it and studying the characters can be cathartic.

Bro, in some cases you don't even need to commute. You will need to be on call-that means within a minute or two from a teleconferencing phone. Video is even better.

You would need to know how to ask, understand, and translate into english in a useful way.

Your geographic location almost does not matter.

I can give you common questions in english, that you would need to ask, receive, and understand.

    Your answers will be important.

I would need to do a considerable amount of practicing before I'd be comfortable translating professionally for a medical purpose, but it's not beyond the realm of possibility within the next six months. I'd probably just listen to tons of videos about medical stuff, hit the books and I'd be fine.

    You probably would.

Just something to consider-an enormous amount of radiologists come from TX.

They just need the internet for data.

    Thats all you need.

See, I've been looking for something to complement the Chinese, but I haven't found much that isn't high-level professional stuff. Maybe I shouldn't (*)(*)(*)(*) away all my Chinese...

You're making me want to study! haha

Language earning can be quite addictive.

I need a basic job first. After that, I can focus on getting a better job. Right now, money is too tight to be doing anything that isn't immediate. I'll be headed over to the campus area tomorrow to check some things out.

Agreed. I need to get moving. I've been idle for too damn long.

Above all other things I value progress. That is, the idea that the main striving of society should be to make all things better in all respects for everybody. It is right and proper that all people should work for the greatest good for the greatest number and this ideal should supersede all others. Conservatives seem to value stability more than anything else and are anxious to let things like Religion and Nation be the main determinants of our actions even if this hurts people. I value those things too, but only insofar as they promote change for the better for everyone.

Religion and nationalism have their purposes. Religion gives people a shared moral code of behavior, and nationalism helps keep those people from being invaded by people who don't share the same values.

Look at what's happening in Europe now to see the damage that can result from eschewing religion and nationalism.
