Now for what appears to be a soppy gay love song but isn’t . The visuals are from a trailer for a gay Mexican film but the music is from an Indian band and has nothing to do with the visuals. Strange things happen on Youtube. Homophobic Christian fundamentalists can tune out now.

LOL - I didn't know "Heroin music" was a genre.

Damn shame with that band - they squandered a whole lot of talent...

You don't hear a lot of heavy bands that are heavy on the vocals and harmonies. However, I think their talents really shine through their more airy songs...

I've never been able to reconcile the whole notion of a vengeful God in my head. As a child I found it horrifying (the intended effect, I presume) and unnatural and as I grew older I found it illogical. How would a God that uses his children for firewood be any better or worse than the people he punished and tormented? That just doesn't make sense to me and I don't think it would make sense to an all-knowing and all-powerful God who probably has more important things to do with His time.

Thoreau was quite the crank, wasn't he? Several years ago my wife bought me a beautiful 150th anniversary illustrated edition of Walden with lovely color plates of the Pond and surrounding Woods but when I made an effort to read the book again I couldn't get past all the insults Thoreau hurled at his neighbors in the beginning of the book. Talk about a snob! Good grief...

As for Anthem, I'm not aware of any other novelist who took Communism to its logical extreme the way Rand did in that novel. The absence of the word "I" in the language of her dystopian collectivist society was a brilliant device, along with the impersonal names and numbers everyone was given to identify themselves. Given that I first read the book in the mid-1980s when the Communist world was collapsing I think it had an even more profound effect on my thinking. Another great thing about Anthem is that it's mercifully short. While Rand might be considered a great thinker in some circles I don't think anyone considers her a great writer. I tried to read Atlas Shrugged once but I couldn't bring myself to slog through 1000 pages of her writing. I'd rather re-read Pasternak's Doctor Zhivago than subject myself to that torture.

    Same here.
Some songs will trigger a something is wrong with this stop listening reaction, that I cant really explain. Backmasking is definitely one of those triggers.
