What good would a high (standard) capacity magazine ban do?

detachable mags basically last forever for most users. That said they are not a significant source of income for manufacturers, never were, income comes from products that need to be replaced such as ammo or food and gasoline. Will the average American spend more on mags, or food and fuel.

A class 3 is a basic ffl dealers license. Ever seen a gun store? They've got one and it ain' hard to get one if you can pass a NICS check.

That depends upon the magazine and the type of steel used in the spring. You also have to understand certain principles like creep, elastic limit and permanent set when setting spring strength. Many like 1911 mags are notoriously weak because of the feed pathway and shape of the cartridge.
