I’ve always found the “pay for themselves” mantra a little disingenuous. It almost argues against the idea of tax policy affecting the economy. Usually avocate of that mindset assume any economic gains that result would have occured anyway. I don’t think that’s the case. I do know that broad base rate reductions SEEM to create higher revenues.

There is to date zero evidence that lock downs have kept anyone alive, and much that they have cost lives.

And as one commentator observed: Brazil is becoming a threat to global health, because new, more contagious variations of the virus arise in such uncontrolled conditions.

Meanwhile of the 15 states with the lowest per capita death toll most are states that eschewed Draconian lock downs.
