Building a wall around a country the size of US can hurt quite a bit, and would make no difference in the end.

I don't buy that explanation, and even if it was true, the total number of claims is meaningless. One claim can be more expansive than 1000 other claims put together. Besides, how do illegals file claims if they don't have insurance?

To answer your question, - most Federal Prison Camps aka minimum security prisons don't have walls or fences, and they work.

 

I think the point of the question was who will pay for the healthcare that Biden plans on giving to the immigrants. If you ever had to pay for a Obama healthcare plan you would know the costs are spread out. It was the whole point of the mandate that people had to purchase a plan. To spread the costs.

They aren't very popular though. We have a couple of federal facilities in driving distance here and both have some serious fencing and the nearest one is minimum security. That minimum security pertains to life inside, not that they are free to come and go in the local community.

 

No, minimum security pertains to how of effort they put into keop prisoners in. Many do not have any fencing at all, because the prisoners are not expected to escape. People call them "country clubs". They are for non-violent criminals who are serving short sentences and understand that escape would only result in an extended sentence at a higher security facility.

Alright granted that there are some facilities operating on the honor system and they work. Now, how about the ones with fences and razor wire and thick walls, do they work?

In the first place the wall isn't around the entire US, it's on our Southern border where it is being overwhelmed. You seem pretty smart so I think you likely know that to say it makes no difference is just BS. Now if we build a fence and walk off and leave it of course it can't work. When a fence is used along with other enforcement measures they do the job they are designed to do. That's why fences are popular.

 

Prisons work in keeping prisoners in. Prisoners are locked in cells with and allowed out only when guards permit it. Not sure how this compares to a fence in the desert. Of course prison wall, which is several hundred yards will be easier to guard than 2000 mile long border

Israelis tried it, and they say the ground underneath is like swiss cheese due to the number of tunnels. Border crossers actually prefer tunnels, because they can cross without exposing themselves. Those who can't pay for tunnel, walk around the fence. I am not saying it is totally pointless, I'm just saying their effectiveness it grossly overestimated. Of course Israelis are in better position to guard the border, because it is only 40 km long. I believe they are now constructing an underground wall, which will be very expensive, but again, it is only 40km vs 3000 km in US.

 

Either they work or they don't, a word salad doesn't change that. The Border Patrol has said they helped stem the tide both in invaders and drugs. They live and work there so I will accept their expertise.

 

Lets try it again.

1. A 200 yard prison solid wall works because it is small and easy to guard
2. A 2000 mile fence with 100 mile gaps in it doesn't work, because it is impossible to guard

There is no word salad, there is only reality. Even Israelis are having a hard time even though their fence is only 40 miles wide.
