And it is hypocritical to condemn a person for rape BECAUSE he was gay.

Remember: a person is innocent until proven guilty?

    Get over yourself!

Who said Milk was murdered by a Republican?

White was a Conservative Democrat- and also a Catholic, Irish American, ex-policeman.

Who murdered Milk and Mayor Moscone.

    I agree. I certainly don't.

But Milk was never accused of statutory rape or any other sex crime.

Never accused, never arrested, never convicted- never to any of those things.

Only years later- after Milk was dead, after anyone who could actually address the claims, did the homophobic community start claiming that Milk was a child rapist.

Why? Well because Milk was well known as speaking for gay rights, which brings us around full circle.

Some homophobes in this thread claim that Milk never accomplished anything worthy.

But if Milk had not been recognized for his accomplishments in promoting equal rights for homosexuals, the homophobes would never have started claiming he was a child rapist.

The reason those folks are trying to smear Milk is because he represents the open acceptance of homosexuals that they hate.

Actually, in the 5th district around the Castro neighborhood at that time, he could be elected by only homosexuals voting for him.

Well, maybe conservative by San Francisco standards. Liberal by any others.

The post in question referred to a "right-wing homophobe"; in the real world, that could surely be a "Democrat"; people like that aren't exclusively limited to being "Republican".

What are you talking about here?!

    Really?

DAN WHITE was a typical all-American-boy born and raised in San Francisco. He was a policeman and then a fireman and then ran for Supervisor in the heavily conservative Irish-Catholic working class neighborhood known as District 8. He promised to restore traditional values to San Francisco city government. He promised to rid San Francisco of "radicals, social deviates, and incorrigibles".

Sounds like your kind of Conservative.

    More- from the NYT

In 1977, with strong support from the city's police union, whose leaders were angry over what they perceived as growing official tolerance of crime and of overt homosexuality and prostitution, he was elected to the Board of Supervisors on a conservative platform.

Dan White should have received a reward from crimestoppers. He prevented a gay pedophile from preying on another minor run-away.....

Fascinating that apparently the only thing you find relevant about Dan White was that he was a Democrat.

And then we get the cheering section for murderers..........

    Why am I not surprised?

Some people are still upset that homosexuals are allowed to vote.

Just pointing out that "conservative" in San Francisco doesn't mean the same thing as it does in the rest of the country.

Care to provide even one example? Or did you just make that up?

The United states has some history of honoring some really nasty people.

Christopher Columbus for one was commemorated on a stamp and that dude was way worse. Didn't really do anything but enslave and slaughter numerous people and died insisting the united states was India. And we celebrate that scum every year. And you are crying about a senetor that was gay?

Seems you have an obsession with homosexuals that boarders on clinical if you are so acutely focused on homosexuality to ignore all other hypocrites.

True, but Columbus had some major accomplishments exploring the new world. Milk was an ineffective politician for 11 months. His only accomplishment was being gay.

Just because you are upset about Milk promoting equal rights for homosexuals- and helping to defeat a bill that would have made it illegal for homosexuals to be teachers in California- doesn't mean that his only accomplishment was that he was gay- you are just in denial.

The homosexual equal rights ordinance was an 8 to 1 vote. This is San Francisco. Would have passed with or without him. He did nothing more than the other 7.

so what? If it bothers you so much get a stamp meter.

I just don't get the concern. So, some guyis on a stamp, who cares. I have one with Darth Vader on it and he isn't even real. I think existing is more of an accomplishment than Darth Vader accomplished.
