Many states have laws concerning types of firearms a person can own. Are those type of laws constitutional yes or no? and if no, why didn't they get "blocked." For instance check out CA's laws on owning semi-automatic rifles.

No. There are some that the courts need to strike down. But the NRA has done a great job of blocking unconstitutional laws.

I would need to know the details of the specific law. In general a restriction is allowed if it can be justified with a good reason, and if it is not so onerous that it impedes self defense.

The NRA's power is in blocking federal laws. We'll have to rely on the US Supreme Court to strike down laws in leftist strongholds.

Assault weapons bans are definitely unconstitutional. They fall afoul of the requirement that a restriction must be justified with a good reason.

There’s plenty of gun control already. And the gun control you want would effectively make my firearms useless.

If you care about saving lives, you should focus your attention on something like alcohol that kills far more than guns. Around 88,000 a year. Also, it not only kills but has many other very negative effects on society.

Firearms are much more useful and productive to society than alcohol.

Alcohol is the most common factor in suicide.

40% of incarcerated for violent crimes were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the offense.

Less than 10% of violent crime involves firearms.

This is just a small sample from the National Institute of Justice and the Bureau of Justice Statistics.

It’s goes on and on. Alcohol plays a huge role in domestic violence, non violent crime, child neglect and abuse, and fetal alcohol syndrome.

Comparing the negative effects on society of alcohol and firearms is telling. And that’s without even considering the positive effects of firearms that are virtually non existent for alcohol.

So, if one truly cares about individuals and society as a whole, prohibition would be more logical than gun control.

Do I support prohibition? Absolutely not. I believe the individual has the right to use alcohol in any way they choose. I support brewers, distillers and fermenters of all types. I don’t like the effects of alcohol abuse but I’m willing to abide them because freedom is more important.

In the same way, I’m willing to accept criminals will use firearms as tools in the same way they use lock picks, getaway cars, knives and crowbars. The freedom of the responsible citizen is again most important.

It’s time to stop justifying gun control by claiming it’s for the betterment of society or the individual. Doing so while ignoring things like alcohol abuse is hypocritical and illogical.

We have the most lax gun control in the developed world. Not the most lax alcohol laws

Thanks for yours. And for helping illuminate the hypocrisy and dishonesty of the gun control movement at large. :)

The state of California, as are numerous other states, are just as corrupt and dishonest as the nation of Mexico.

In 90% of cases people who commit suicide have severe Mental Disability. They can not make a choice.
