Why? His income information is on his financial disclosures by source.

Which form is that in his tax return? What information is that in his tax return that is not in his financial disclosure form?

If he were in bankruptcy that would be public knowledge but where is that listed on his tax return?

Customary has nothing to do with the law nor should the law, there is not law that requires "customary" or for one candidate to match what another candidate does. It is not the role of Congress to insure that if one candidate does something voluntarily all other candidates must do the same.

That is for the voters to decide not Congress.

U.S. Code § 6103 does not require a stated "reason" for a House Ways and Means Committee Chairman to request tax returns from the IRS, nor does it designate anyone to determine whether a reason might meet some unspecified person's unspecified standard. Where is such a responsibility to make such a determination assigned to the IRS or anyone else?

If Trump knows that it is vital that he persist in hiding his tax returns about which he made his fake promise to the American people, he can order his minions to fight disclosure in the courts and continue to hide them from the American People.

You can muse about my assessment of presidential candidates and believe whatever you like.

It does not alter the reality that, if Trump is still convinced that he must lie and hide his taxes, that is what he will try do.

There is no reason Americans cannot relentlessly request that he keep his word to them.

Our country would be so much better off if you partisans were as diligent about holding your team accountable as you are at holding "their" team accountable. Partisans who look the other way while their side carries on with their corrupt ways are why we have corrupt, lying liars running this country.

It's so hard to take partisans seriously. If this was Hillary, you'd be providing the excuses instead of the accusations. Hillary is a criminal who won't ever face trial for her crimes because she's royalty for team D.

    Partisan hypocrisy is sickening.

Trump lied during a campaign. You don't say! In other news, it's 2019, the ocean is full of salt water and a lot of Americans like hot dogs.

I have never suggested that there is a law that has forced every major presidential candidate for over 30 years to come clean with his tax returns, nor that Trump's lying about releasing his is illegal either.
Congressional powers under U.S. Code § 6103 aside, there is no reason for Americans not to persist in relentlessly calling upon Trump to honor his promise to the American people.

    Your hyper-partisan fixation is noted.

Every major presidential candidate, regardless of Party, has come clean with his tax returns for over thirty years.

Trump's enduring lie to the American people about his willingness to share his tax returns is not a partisan matter.

He lied to Republicans and Democrats alike.
Trump toadies may be in a justifiable frenzy over the prospect of Trump keeping his promise in this matter, but there is nothing remarkable about a candidate for the presidency doing so.

Of course, if Trump doesn't run in 2020, it is very likely that he can get away with his lie.

    Every
presidential candidate in 2020, regardless of party, should release her tax returns.

Wait............you actually believe what his disclosure form says? Haven't you learned anything over the last 3 years about the Liar-in-Chief?

As much as his tax returns, they are filed under threat of perjury. Are you saying we should not longer require high level officials submit their financial disclosure forms?

Again there is no law that requires a President to "keep his campaign promises or any promises". There is not law that requires a candidate to do any another candidate does voluntarily. That is not a matter for Congress or the law it is a matter for the voters.

Yawn, so only 12% of the time in the history of our country.

There is no obligation for a candidate to provide this information. Donald Trump ran a campaign that didn't look like any other campaign in the history of this country. Guess what? The country said, "so what? He's still better than the other candidate who is running."

There's your answer. You can be outraged, but nobody really cares about the tax returns, so perhaps in the future, other candidates won't feel the need to succumb to the ridiculous request from voters.

*Note: The country DID choose Trump as president; please don't bother with the old "b..bu...but... popular vote," nonsense that team blue has been rolling out in every thread on every forum on the internet since Nov 2016. It's old, it's boring, it's utterly without meaning. You hate the way we choose presidents? Do something about it.

    Enjoy your hate, I guess.

    As I have constantly maintained.

Trump's having repeatedly lied about coming clean with his tax returns (https://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/times-donald-trump-release-tax-returns-article-1.3061868) is a matter about which he and the electorate can be continually reminded, but not prosecuted because none of his promises to do so was made under oath.

As for U.S. Code § 6103, Disclosure to Committees of Congress, that is a matter he can fight in the courts.

I don't know who you need to label "you guys," but if that is how you need to regard the 65,853,514 Americans who preferred her to the Trump, that is what you will do. Neither were generally held in high estimation, obviously.

Just as Americans can relentlessly remind Trump that he lied to them repeatedly about releasing his tax returns, they can remind all politicians of yore of any of their falsehoods as well if they deem it timely.

You can try to rationalize Trump's repeatedly lying to Americans, and become upset whenever his dishonesty is noted, if that is what you need to do.

All 2020 presidential candidates, regardless of party, should come clean with their tax returns without exception, in concert with the normal practice of over three decades.

He's clearly very special to you, and you feel he must receive special treatment.

I don't have much use for a narcissistic blowhard who is clearly showing signs of early dementia. I just can't stand partisans who complain about the other team because {insert ridiculous complaint, here}.

Get back to me when he commits a high crime or misdemeanor. Failure to disclose taxes is a giant nothing-burger.

Remember candidate Obama who made all sorts of promises and seemed to have a solid grasp on the constitution? Yeah, President Obama wasn't a fan of him and never once consulted with him for guidance. How diligent were you on constantly sounding the war drum on those promises?

Same/same. As I've explained - a campaign promise bears no actual resemblance to a promise. People who believe otherwise are naive to the extreme.

Trust that if Clinton were president, I'd be all over the republicans if they were complaining about giant nothing-burgers. (Which they did numerous times with Obama, even though there was plenty of legitimate things to complain about.)

trump is a narcissist with a fragile ego, most people can see that, I think even most Trump supporters know that, they have just invested themselves so much into Trump that they refuse to admit it

It's blatantly obvious what Trump is. I assume that their awareness of that is what instills such rage in his zealous toadies, and compels them into their desperate and silly, "Oh, yeah! Well whaddabout...?" embarrassingly transparent attempts at diversions.

He promised to release his tax returns. He should release his tax returns.

That such an eminently reasonable expectation would trigger such irrational rage is quite revelatory.

Our financial people have reason for believing it. The all-seeing Mueller has reason for believing it too, since the President wasn't indicted on any such charges(or referenced to another law enforcement arm to do the same work as the case was in Cohen to the SDNY.)

Let's be honest here, like Curious Always said: This is about getting to Trump. This has always, been about getting to Trump. And it's not that Trump's a sympathetic figure as it is that most Americans are acting like a bunch of jackasses.

Trump could end up being the most irrelevant private citizen by the end of it, Warren is President and you won't hear a chirp again.

Of course, the aftermath is that Trump Republicans may not recognize a Democratic President. And they have precedent to do so. The non-recognition of a President is a national security liability, but who cares about that now?

I just don't like the precedent releasing someone's private taxes can do. They voluntarily choose to do so, and that's okay. It was VOLUNTARY. If the House gets/exerts this power, America loses freedom points. Literally, we've lost a lot of freedom points on the index already.

In about 10-15 years from now, people will talk about America the same way we talk about Communist China.

Because that's what candidates running for office do. All of them. It's how you get elected in this country. Honest people don't get elected.

And President Obama promised we'd make 2,500 dollars from that debacle known as the Affordable Care Act, but it ended up being neither affordable or accessible.

At the risk of repeating myself. Campaign promises are not synonymous with promises. A campaign promise is nothing more than words coming out of a hole we call a mouth. Empty, meaningless, not to be believed.

Reason: The R team will never hold an R candidate accountable for their broken promises & the D team will never hold a D candidate accountable for their broken promises. Get used to it or work towards helping honest people get elected.
