I think the underlined part should be unlicensed unregistered

    Personal responsibility

You want to have a gun - register it and hold a license. End of story.

If you drive a car without a licence you are also jailed - why is it different for guns?

Gee, I am alive thanks to guns, as a Police Officer, I saved lives with guns, even retired, they still serve me and countless Millions of law abiding people, hard core criminals that are murdering is not a cause to disarm the law abiding.

Because licensing in NYC and other jurisdictions is often discriminatory in nature and restricted to people carrying large sums of money in many cases, or celebrities or rich people that very often, manipulate the system, cronies of the Mayor etc, not actual need.

If someone has a felony conviction, they are not allowed to have a firearm under any circumstances. If a serial number has been obliterated to render it untraceable, both the act and the possession is a felony. If the barrel of a shotgun has been shortened below eighteen inches and is not registered with the ATF, both the act and the possession is a felony.

Pray tell why is this not understood?

    - - - Updated - - -

Then why are so many individuals currently alive because they had a firearm?

Prove that more firearms = fewer deaths

And please do not even THINK about quoting "I can run a study that proves whatever I want it to prove" Kleck or "I don't make up numbers really" Lott

Don't see an issue - you want a gun go through the process and if it is discriminatory - then bloody well become a political activist and lobby for change

As for guns and police officers - yes police should be armed but what if there were fewer guns in the community for you to HAVE to use your firearm?

Would that not have been nicer?

Well let us reason, in 7/11/2012

A guy pulls a gun on me, I stare down the barrel, I am thinking, WOAH ! I am toast, quite dead !

I am not thinking, lets ban guns.

Suddenly, a noise and the guy is distracted, I pull my Gun and :gun: POW POW POW !
I successfully defend myself and live.

Rather, I say; "Thank God for Guns !"

That is my point - fewer guns = less chance of that happening in the first place = safer society for everyone

Tell that to Chicago, D.C., New Jersey, NYC, and kalifornication with their low gun ownership yet high crime rate. Tell that to places like Kennasaw, Georgia and Plano, Texas where they have a high gun ownership yet a low crime rate.

    Correlation does not equal causation

    http://www.factcheck.org/2008/03/violent-crimes-and-handgun-ownership/

So what crimes are reduced by gun ownership?

    Littering?

    Loitering?

    Jaywalking?

    Drunk and Disorderly?

    Being an arse in public?

    None of the above.

    Rape ?

A man tries to rape a woman, as he is ripping off her clothes, she manages to draw her tiny NAA .22 LR mini revolver and shoots him in the private parts,
he is later arrested at Hospital, for treatment of a GSW.

He will now sing soprano from now on and need pills to get it on......

    Good job !

    True account !

Anecdotal evidence is not the same as statistical proof

There are a lot of anecdotes about how women defended themselves WITHOUT resorting to a gun - in fact probably more than those who have

Statistics - please rely on statistics

Fewer knives would also = less chance of being confronted by a perp with a knife.

So, your anecdotes trump my anecdotes ???

Because all your Anti Gun evidence is 100% anecdotal and unproved, the last was an account of successful self defense with a gun.

Your anecdotal evidence against guns, is unfounded.

There are thousands of similar stories of normal everyday people from all over the U.S. legally and successfully using guns to defend themselves,
Are all those accounts merely anecdotal evidence and not the norm ???

There is another thread with many self defense accounts.

    "2016 What Armed self-Defense looks like "

That many people can't equal mere anecdotal evidence.

    Where did the thread go?

This was a thread about an intolerant university professor, who can't see outside of her own small-minded prejudices and personal tragedy, and due to that refused to grant a prospective teacher, who the professor labeled as a good leader, a recommendation for a teaching job.

    Statistics...
Like how violent crime, gun-related violent crime, murder and gun-related murder in the US fell 55% from 1993 to 2014, while over the same period of time, dozens of millions of new guns were sold?

Statistics should be referenced as to source otherwise I, and others will, probably correctly, assume they have been taken from the back of a Cornflakes packet. (In Aussie speak that means it is made up rubbish)

Hmmmm - so how often are these checks carried out? What is the criteria under which you may be caught?

Hmmmmm - and how many mass shootings have you had so far this year alone??

    How many school shootings?

What is your firearm mortality rate?

What is your firearm injury rate?

What is your yearly medical expense for treatment of firearm injury?

What is your yearly police expense for investigation of firearm related crime?

Me, I would rather live in a country with fewer firearms, fewer mass shootings and shootings in general and one where my taxes are not going to fund expensive medical treatments that were not necessary in the first place if firearms were treated as the dangerous implements they are

Said the lady who uses mother jones as a credible source.

    - - - Updated - - -

And how many mass shootings happened in places like Plano, Texas? The common donominater with these mass shootings are that they are gun free zones.
