Actually arguably he didn't, the sub prime market originated under Bill Clinton leaving GW and Obama to pick up the pieces (much as Coolidge left office with the crash looming but that was Hoover's problem).
Watergate was his shining moment. He stood by his friends who happened to make a drunk mistake one night and didn't throw them under the bus like most other politicians would have. Now that is character and class. How the hell did Reagan and FDR get the top picks? What the hell did they ever do?
And I am supposed to take you seriously for picking a guy who didn't know how to use the stairs? Nixon used stairs just fine, in fact I would argue he was the best President ever at not only going up stairs but also down them as well.

He didn't pull the US out of any crisis. Like I said, that's not the ultimate thing voters should get. The ultimate thing is an extended period of peace and prosperity.
At the time of both presidents, I was a strong willed Democrat. I never liked Nixon from when we started to call him Tricky Dick in Ca until he was buried. I never believed Ford helped at all. But he does not come close to the top for being dishonest. Tricky never started the Vietnam War. But FDR could have worked diligently to prevent WW2 and not sent hundreds of thousands of our young to their deaths.
He didn't start it, but its highly likely it would have ended a whole 7 years earlier than it did were it not for his lawlessness, and that he through his actions therefore has the blood of tens of thousands of American lives on his hands. People remember him for Watergate of course, but that was far from his only flaw. -Meta
So far most posters are selecting Reagan; who was basically Trump with self-control. So . . . it . . . goes.
I think that Ford did a lot to reunite the country and instill some trust and dignity back into the office of the Presidency Nixon may have been able to walk up and down the stairs properly, but he wouldn't recognize the truth if he tripped over it.
That's pulling a country out of a crisis of which voters can be proud. The next step is peace and prosperity (which is an extended period of living better off that has more worth than a momentary sense of pride) which if you refuse to acknowledge Clinton delivered, you must concede he upheld. It's not difficult to comprehend.
revisionist history is the order of the day on this forum but I will need to see proof in order to believe such a political variance
Reagan was far more innovative, far more dedicated to principles and accomplished far more globally. True Trump still has time but he is not facing the same serious problems nor is inclined to do things Reagan did. To be fair to Reagan, this is the best of all books on him.
