I look forward to seeing your biased report that the smarter somebody is, or at least more educated (lots of educated people that have zero common sense) are more likely to lean left.

The pilgrims were refugees to an area that had no countries with immigration laws. Are you seriously trying to say that present day refugees (which most of then are not) should not be subjected to our laws because history?

Do you really want to go down this road that no current law is valid if it didnt exist in history?

I don't know what the big deal with "leaving" is anyway... I have a very clear vision of what I would do if I had to leave Australia

besides I was told once during an argument to "go back to where you came from" it was long ago and I responded by educating this individual on how Australia didn't pay one cent towards my education which they now benefit from... of course I admit I also flipped them off

Not even remotely suggesting anything of the sort. How you get to there from what I said is a remarkable exercise in miscomprehension and basic logic.

Well thanks a lot. You have had a very different upbringing that most definitely contributes to your world view. We are very similar in a lot of ways. I do agree that a lot of Latinos have valuable contributions to make. Many are good friends that respect American Sovereignty over our borders.

I do realize cultures evolve to an extent, but I am convinced that, throughout history, human nature is a constant. When we deny that, and feel we approach "enlightenment" we approach our downfall." Pride always precedes a fall." I was never "religous". Never had that uprbringing. I was a "reluctant hippie" from the midwest. Left home at 18 but somehow, I didn't fit in with that generation though I did some experimentation with drugs. Did a lot of searching. Through many different influences, the Bible became my mainstay. At 25 years of age I decided I would follow Jesus. It is a very personal thing. That does not mean I am perfect in any way, but I appreciate that "Law of Liberty" He provides. "There is nothing new under the sun".

Have you stated in some post what patriotism actually is? I would take a beginning, middle or end of the thread as an answer. I just don't want to go through all of your posts in this thread. Thanks.

Common sense is an essential component for left-centrists to right-centrists committed to an economically better country for all its citizens, I think.

nope i didnt. But I will comment on what is not patriotism and that is telling citizens exercising the rights and freedoms to critique the government to shut up or leave.

Patriotism is upholding the virtues, values and liberties of the Constitution for all citizens.

Well, that's fine, but it doesn't hold any weight if you don't have a personal definition of patriotism. It's like a fart in a windstorm.

My statement stands alone and isn't at all dependent on my personal definition of patriotism so if you disagree with it, its means it doesn't hold any weight with you.

This is patently ridiculous. I agree that discourse in this country is spiraling down hill but trump has less class than my 8 year old nephew. Nobody deserves trump, and having him in office is accelerating the gap in the national divide.

If you want an example of someone NOT patriotic look no further than the buffoon in the oval office. He only feigns patriotism and only the most dimwitted among us fall for it. He's Unpatriotic to the core.

Many veterans have told me they are so glad that Trump was not their CiC, and they all worry for the welfare of active duty, reserve, and veterans' needs under this administration.

You know what is unpatriotic? Labeling everyone that doesn't agree with you as racists, deplorable.. etc. And when you get called out for your ill behavior, you whine that it's patriotic to be this offensive. If only tar and feathers were still a thing....

Other than my family dinner table, I do not see Americans willing to engage in respectful discussions with those they disagree with. Trumps opposition is no better. He is not why we are divided, he is merely a symptom of the division that existed before he was elected. Politicians on both sides hold massive power as a result of Americans fighting with each other. They could never screw us this bad if we were united.

We are divided because of the demagogues of the far left and the far right.

Well maybe id you actually said what you mean, rather than dancing around with platitudes, people would be able to engage you in discussion.

Rather, you prefer cryptic statements and generalities so your own positions cant be debated.

Say what you mean and mean what you say.

The general welfare clause (Article 1 Section 8) brushes aside any orginalist or constitutionalist arguments.

I'll concede the study represents the more education, the more people lean left. Which is ironic, as significant amounts of the left wing platform revolves around representing low education low income workers.

Which is ironic, because those people traditional vote right wing. These are people who have not yet entered the workforce, yet feel they are best suited to decide what is best for a demographic they know nothing about?

Could it be because the longer people spend in college, the more indoctrinated they are?
