My husband and I accomplished everything without help from an invisible man in the sky. Neither of us believe in the supernatural. Do you really believe that some invisible man made everything happen for him? Did god also put him in an abusive foster home?

Capitalism and patriotism can overcome many obstacles, but a hostile socialist takeover of the federal government isn't one of them. That is the clear and present danger we face today from the left.

Renee, I am beginning to hate public schools. They revise History, if indeed they still teach history, and teach it to promote their own agenda. The teachers union has been a powerful instrument to dumb down our kids. There are public institutions that are a necessary part of government such as military, fire and police protection and a few others. Leftists always refer to them as "Socialist" and pretend they are vehicles to redistribute wealth. That is non sense of course. Progressive tax laws are used as vehicles to social engineer and redistribute wealth. National Healthcare definitely is a move to do that.
While we're at it Renee, what is your position on not enforcing our border laws and presenting healthcare to all who enter?

Progressives like Jefferson, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower? The Conservatives Of their day preferred bowing down to foreign Kings, supporting slave owners and letting a small cadre of robber baron industrialist capitalists dictate policy to the rest of us. The very nature of progressive is to move forward away from tyrannical policies.

Socialism was involved in building every major improvement in US history. Created the hydro electric grids that brought us the Tennessee Valley Authority, The North East power grids from Niagra Falls and the West with the Grand Coulee and Hoover Dams. Those were all government sponsored socialistic projects. The US highway system under FDR and the Interstate Highway system under Eisenhower were constructed along with creating the greatest military ever assembled in world history. Again all socialistic government sponsored programs.

All of those entities were created by pooling our resources and hiring private contractors to carry them out while creating millions of productive jobs for American workers. Right wing “think tanks” have spent decades and billions of dollars attempting to make the words socialism, liberal and now progressive dirty words but it doesn’t change our history, only scares the dupes that still buy into the crap propaganda.

God, of course, did not put your husband in an abusive foster home. He gave responsibility to his parents and the rest of society to do what is right. Without responsibility, there is no liberty. I don't know who, and I don't pretend to judge....but someone there "screwed the pooch" in the area of responsibility.
I believe in God and His provision for us to live free and responsible. He blesses those of us that adhere to His precepts. The rain falls on the good and bad alike. Sometimes our bad experiences turn around for good. They all accomplish purpose. I see all of nature as a miracle. Chance does not even enter into the picture. I seek after that intelligent design with all of my heart. It is only because of Him I have value. He meets my every need. When I am down or have a bad day, I don't blame others. I look to my Provision and He answers. I know His precepts. I'm far from anything perfect but I know where Holiness and perfection can be found. You would never understand any of that unless it was revealed to you personally. It is great you are happy in your own provision.

You speak of projects undertaken by the consent of the governed for the benefit of all equally. Not a program that permanently confiscates wealth for redistribution

What I spoke of is the classic definition of socialism working in a constitutional Republic which has been going on for well over a century here in America. If people are elected who are prone to support other state sponsored projects for the overall good of the country like creating a better, more affordable healthcare system like every other wealthy first world country already has, or enhance and upgrade our infrastructure, then that would be by its very definition, by the consent of the governed. I have a problem with these right wing “think tank” dupes trying to equate the form of socialism which has existed and benefited this country all along with failed totalitarian regimes like USSR. None of these people you are trying to smear with that tag are suggesting that we abolish the bill of rights or the US Constitution which is what separates us from nations like China or the former USSR.

Tell me about revised history...be specific. I am sure you don’t like science either. And I bet you think all public schools are part of a massive conspiracy
IDefinitely think those huge corporations with billions and profits should pay a larger percentage. I remember I believe it was under Clinton I was paying more than 50% in taxes and it didn’t affect my standard of living one bit. I have to assume you’re very very wealthy. I think we need more personnel at the borders....and I think people fleeing violence and poverty should be welcomed here.
So do you think people who come here and are sickly should be denied medical treatment? Do you think all Americans should have healthcare or just those who can afford it?

When all the socialists on the Democrat debate stage imply (by raising their hands) they want to provide healthcare for anyone coming here illegally, they are setting the stage for infringing on "our right to maintain and own property". They plan on confiscating property to an unfathomable degree just to support their new green deal. Their Medicare for all plan will confiscate far more than is affordable. If you think we are a "socialist country now" wait to see how they would implement their socialist plans.

I'll be straight forward with you. I think people that come here violating our laws should pay for their one way trip home.....that's it. Actually, I think they should be stopped at the border. Do you believe it is right that adults rent children to defraud our system? Are you patient enough to wait and see if their DNA checks out?
I think individuals should be responsible for themselves and their immediate family on providing food, shelter, and yes, healthcare. Do you think all Americans should have government provide their food, shelter, and healthcare? Com'on, where do you stop? Are we responsible for anything? Anything that comes after responsibility is "charity". Government should not be in the charity business.

Policy decisions need to go through a whole process before being enacted and they reflect the will of the people via elected representatives. I am not saying that I would support everything or anything that one certain Congresswoman proposes. However I am open to any solutions presented by either Democrats or Republicans which would help get health care costs under control while increasing effectiveness. For example, I support Trump’s promise to create a terrific health care system which would cover everybody for a fraction of the cost. I am still waiting for him to send his plan to Congress and get it passed.

Don't think schools are part of a mass conspiracy, but I think they are used that way. Science is good but is used for asserting things like "cow flatulence is destroying the planet". Those of us that know better understand that several billion buffalo once roamed this continent. That is a small sample of what I don't like. Science teachers in the early seventies taught we were headed for a mini ice age. There are alternatives to their theories and they need to be given equal voice.
Our Constitution needs to be taught in History/ Civics and the intent of our founders. The Character and beliefs of the founders should be taught as well. Experiments in Socialism such as the Plymouth or New Harmony experiment should be examined. The truth about the settlement of America should be taught, that genocide was practiced by indigenous people as well as Europeans and the fact it turned out o.k. and shortcomings have been rectified. America is not always bad. Communism and Socialism experiments should be studied as well. The list is too long and the teaching of American History is greatly diminished today.

Who is planning on confiscating property? The only one I can think of is Trump who wants to take away private property to build his wall that Mexico was going to build. I know , nothing could be worse than for everybody to have healthcare. And if somebody can’t afford it they should just die on the streets like other third world countries

Yes, the word did mean something then. Now it doesn't. Progressive doesn't mean socialist either it means communist.
It was not socialist programs that created the massive building projects. They were Federal government contracted projects due to their vast scope. The Army Corps of Engineers and GSA still over see large projects almost all of which are contracted to private for profit capitalist construction companies. They may sometimes be social programs but they are in no way socialist programs. Big difference, Jack.

Why don't you say the same thing for food and shelter? Isn't that government responsibility also? Shouldn't the government also supply us with toilet paper? Doesn't leave a whole lot of responsibility for individuals. Where do you draw the line? Food is every bit as important as healthcare and I'm not talking just beans and rice either!

Hay Jack, In addition to what I replied to earlier about your post, I just read this. Hanson is an interesting guy. His opinion piece is timely and relates to what you wrote about.

Victor Davis Hanson: Members of previous generations now seem like giants — When did we become so small?

Wrong Lucky, they were socialist programs that capitalists profited from. Without huge socialist contracts approved by government agencies, they would not have come about. You are just mincing words my brother. No way any private entity would have forked out the money to build the ****ing Hoover Dam or the Interstate Highway system. Your capitalist heroes never had the balls. Get a grip.

Jack, I'll start with the Hoover Dam

The Hoover Dam was built by a construction company called Six Companies Inc, which was actually a consortium of several companies: Morrison-Knudsen Co., Utah Construction Co., J. F. Shea Co., Pacific Bridge Co., MacDonald & Kahn Ltd. and a joint venture of W. A. Bechtel Co., Henry J. Kaiser, and Warren Brothers. The reason these construction companies got together was simple: no single construction company could raise the $5 million needed to secure the performance bond.

    All private construction companies

    www.constructioncompany.com/historic-construction-projects/hoover-dam/

    Interstate Highway System

No one construction company is responsible for the highway system; it was a task too monumental for any single company to undertake. For the most part, each state, with help from the federal government, was responsible for its own sections of the interstate highway system. Some states built their roads through their various transportation departments and some contracted out the job to highly skilled highway builders. The following describes just a few of the states where construction companies overcame huge challenges to help create the greatest highway system in the world.

    http://www.constructioncompany.com/historic-construction-projects/interstate-highway/

I can continue Jack but as building and construction is my profession, I actually do know the history of who what where an how these projects were built.

You really should read the Hanson article. The guy is an interesting thinker with a lot of common sense wisdom.

Who paid the contractors who built Hoover Dam? I know it along with any other huge project we’re constructed by private contractors but the point I was making is that money pooled from the general public was used. That is a form of socialism.
